That's true, but I think the massive holes in ABC's schedule will override that. They have much more important things to worry about. I'm sure they are just happy to have something in the post-Dance slot that isn't a giant gaping wound.
Just a medium-sized sucking wound.
Holes get plugged. ABC keeps ordering new pilots. Castle's only hope is that the crappy development process that spawned it spawns an even worse crop of potential replacements.
And hey, could happen.
With 2 hours likely to fill on Tuesday, 90 minutes on Wednesday, an hour likely on Thursday, I think Castle has a great chance at returning, especially with Lost gone as well.

So does Fringe, with all of FOX's recent and upcoming mandatory cancellations. It still sucks lately.
Castle still hasn't aired a single repeat. Every single episode has come right after DWTS. Competition has been CSI:Miami (including one repeat) and Leno--and the slight uptick in Castle's #'s this season is partly due to the latter's decline.
If you're looking at the two shows objectively, Fringe is doing better, relative to expectations and competition. But both shows are cancellation-worthy right now.
And Castle is due for an experimental timeslot change of its own. ABC may have holes to plug, but seeing as Fringe will clearly never be a hit, shouldn't that primo timeslot it holds go to some new show that might become a hit?
Pretty sure nobody developing a show for FOX is clamoring for Fringe's timeslot.

While I love to tease you about Castle and try to get you going, I don't think I've ever said the numbers were overly good by any means but they're respectable given ABC's history post-Dancing and in comparison to the tons of crap they have to deal with elsewhere.
As for Fringe, I've advocated Fox pull their heads out of their a$$es and move this back to Tuesdays. With Past Life a sure goner and Human Target and Glee able to share the Wed. 9pm slot, it makes sense to try to save Fringe and let Gordon Ramsey scream his way to a demo win over CSI on Thursdays.
I think fringe is a little ham strung by its complicated on-going storyline and the desire (or need?) to tell individual stories.
Its problem is the smug stupidity of the scripts, the noxious idiocy of the characters, and the fact that its leading man is just playing himself.

Ratings wise I think if it settles down they will bring it back for a 3rd season, even if it doesn't rise above a hopeful 2.5.
I think if they ever put it in an even halfway challenging timeslot, you'll be nostalgic for the days of 2.1 demo ratings.
quote:
Pisher you do make me laugh with your need to stir other people whilst trying to be the smartest poster on the forum.
A fair analysis. Also off-topic. But hey, I've lost count of all the posts where somebody responds to my opinions of a TV show with his or her opinions of me. A lot of people are sensitive about 'their' shows. I'm not.
quote:
If fringe comes back and has some success will you change your tune or just harp on about its quality?
My opinions about a show's ratings will continue to be about its ratings. My opinions about a show will continue to be about the show. Weird, huh?
quote:
Unfortunately i realise i am playing into your hands by even acknowledging your desperate need to piss people off, but if thats your main desire (and it seems to be) its hard to take what you say seriously.
And it's so easy to take someone seriously who types the word 'I' in lower case (twice), and misspells the word 'realize'.

I agree that Fox should move Fringe back to Tuesday and put Hell's Kitchen in the Thursday slot in midseason. I remember HK doing well there in the spring as good alternate programming.
They already knew what Fishburne's clout was in attracting viewers, which was marginal, so the effect of this event, other than to boost sweeps ratings, was to raise his profile and give him more legitimacy. I would say the ratings bump was more about the event itself and not really about Fishburne.
I think the ratings bump was moderately impressive considering this thing didn't appear to amount to much, based on what I saw thursday.
I think the verdict is in on Fishburne and whether he left the show or not would matter little. But if ratings continue to stabilize this year, and they had legitimate reason coming in to fear they would not, they may be hesitant to dump anybody. But I wouldn't be surprise if there were another addition. I think this cast needs some energy, hate to say it but maybe an alpha male.
ITA on your assessment of TM. It's almost like this show has already "happened." I personally don't think there's enough show here to lock in a really large audience over time, and I think CBS overestimates this and this has led them to some wishful thinking on their part.

Since it was all him doing this crossover, what do these numbers really mean for him, and his ability to earn his high salary? I don't know; just throwing it out there. I don't know how much of a rating's bump they were expecting; it was getting an awful lot of promotion in every media outlet possible. I have always wondered if they really needed LF. Or could they get these numbers without him? Has it become, 'it seemed like a good idea at the time'?
I'm kind of surprised at The Mentalist's numbers. Some here thought CSI was bringing its ratings down this season. Maybe not. I just think it peaked last year, and now it is realizing its long term potential. I don't see alot of growth there. But then I grew tired of it last season, and have only watched a couple of episodes this season, so I may be projecting.

Slight note, I'm surprised at this considering that Survivor, FlashForward, and Bones air against it. (I'm assuming that all four shows on at 8pm are skewed more towards men expect The Vampire Diaries of course).

I have to agree with this. I hated this guy at the beginning of the season but I'm rooting for him now. Not sure how long his luck can last but hopefully he finds the idol next week (not like he needs a clue) or wins immunity.
I'm hoping Laura is gone next week.
I am a pro-Russell Hantz fan. I despise Laura. She thinks she's the good vs. the supposedly-evil Russell, but she's basically a whiner.
And I knew Russell was not going to get voted off this past Thursday night. I mean, Mark Burnett would not devote 60-70% of Survivor Samoa to a player who finished in 11th place. Kelly hardly got featured on the show and now you know why: she got voted out earlier than expected.
But it's a more fun show with Russell (and tag-a-long Shambo) anyway.

I don't think Fishburne has been a great choice. It seems like he's a character from another show/movie that has been brought to the show.

If Russell has trouble finding the idol, I'm sure the producers will tell him where it is. Although from the previews everyone seems to be running around like a chicken with its head chopped off trying to look for it.
