You're missing out. I think this is the best season yet. As far as long run, it's ending next season, so. Wink

It may be ending this season, well I hope it ends this season. Big Grin

Put Reaper in its place and my Thursday would be set.

Besides not being able to get Tom Welling to sign up for Season 9, why wouldn't Smallville get renewed? Its ratings are better then Supernatural, its DVD sales are stronger then Supernatureal, and its ITunes sales are stronger then Supernatural.

Could you please explain to me why Supernatural would be renewed before Smallville.

Costs are much higher the longer the shows are on. The actor's get raises with each new contract. Unless ratings justify the salary increases, the show won't get renewed. They already have enough years for syndication etc...

Have they finally made Smallville available on itunes? It wasn't available last time I checked about a week and a half ago. Supernatural's itune sales are extremely strong. Why would it be renewed? Warner owns half of the CW. Warner makes money every time Supernatural is sold to a foreign market. Supernatual is sold to a WHOLE LOT of foreign markets. It's big in Brazil, Japan, Malaysia, Russia, and Israel; it performs pretty well in UK and Australia and Canada, it's starting to get sold in Europe, and the troops love it. That's all money in the bank for Warner. A lot of money that'll continue to deliver. They aren't going to let it die before it gets its five seasons. Dawn Ostroff wanted to cancel it after season two. The Warner suits stepped in and said, "No, you won't."

Money talks. Plus, as xwiseguyx said, its costs are lower. The cast is much smaller. It all adds up.

Neither show is getting the kind of ratings that DEMAND renewal--neither is doing badly by CW standards, either. Smallville has run its course--how many years can they credibly put off his putting on the costume? Welling is worried this show will be his whole career.

SPN has done well enough for them to want that syndication season. And it's done poorly enough that the people making it haven't been able to get big salary increases--not compared with Smallville, we can be sure.

But most of all, they could sign SPN sooner because the negotations are easier--everybody doing it wants desperately to keep on doing it, so they'll sign anything CW puts in front of them.

UB shouldn't need GA, but I think it does. It lost a full 1/3 of its female 18-34 viewers week-to-week (based on the numbers in the ABC press releases). For a show on FOX or CBS, that wouldn't matter much, but that demo is ABC's primary target. I'm sure ABC is hoping that UB is just dependent on GA and that this isn't a permanent drop.

Some of drop may be due to it's airing at 9pm in the Mountain time zone after the debate analysis finished up. It would normally air at 7pm in MT zone.

It shouldn't go past that--the telenovela it's based on ran only two years.

Like if it ran ten years, would they still have her wearing braces? How crooked could her teeth be?

Let the 5th season be about her finally shedding the Ugly Betty image (without losing her identity), and wrapping things up, and bringing back Salma Hayek's character, and maybe I'll watch it again.

Well, no I won't, but that's what they should do.

Wink

It ran 2 years, but it ran for almost 200 episodes. And it was much better than UB. Not the number of episodes is the problem. Besides the ABC show has almost nothing in common with the original telenovela. It wasn't glamourous enough for US television i suppose

Everything you said concerning Supernatural can be said of Smallville, besides the lower production costs, but Smallville makes more money then Supernatural.

ABC needs to do something about Ugly Betty. Maybe move it to a different timeslot or something. It's getting killed at 8pm, when there's very little competition. ABC should swap Pushing Daisies and Ugly Betty's slots.

Erik Kripke has said more than once (includng at Comic Con) that he has a set 5 season plan. His contract and the contracts of the actors and everybody involved expire next season, so yeah, I hope it ends next season so we fans have a good run. More than 5 would be stretching it.

It's a crappy show, is that reason enough for ya? I was also curious as to why some people thought SN would be renewed before SV, so I asked the question.

But I think pisher's response was the best.

It's getting killed with little competion for the female demo and you think it would help to put it up against Bones and ANTM?

It was just a suggestion. Ugly Betty still has a stong following, but it should be doing at least 10 million. The move would probably benefit Pushing Daisies, and it could also benefit Ugly Betty. Bones is a strong show, but so is Betty, but it's losing steam way too early.
