No surprise that the 5-net year-over-year numbers were down dramatically...HH -21%, viewers -14%, and A18-49 -19%...having no Grey's and CSI in the line-up, and politicians instead, really supressed the PeopleMeter count.

After four nights, CBS maintains the lead in A18-49s, and is likely to hold on and win the week on this measure. It is also way ahead on HH and viewers. After four nights tracking, only The CW and MyNetworkTV are showing improvement over the same week last year.

Week 2, Monday - Thursday
# Net A18-49 (%YOY) Millions of Viewers (%YOY)
==========================================
1. CBS 3.53 (-7%) 12.483 (-4%)
2. NBC 3.23 (-12%) 8.550 (-7%)
3. ABC 2.98 (-31%) 10.443 (-21%)
4. FOX 2.70 (-9%) 6.945 (-5%)
5. CW 1.51 (+6%) 3.145 (-2%)
6. MNT 0.40 (+23%) 1.170 (+44%) -> 3 nights only

YOY = Year-Over-Year

Well, I'm thinking that YOU are a good one to actually do the study now that you brought it up. Just kidding. But to be honest, I choose the network that is flashing the least amount of garbage on the screen during the debate, and ANY broadcast that is being shown on all of the major networks. The problem is that so many networks are flogging their websites which has always confused me because HEY! You already have me as a viewer and you'd prefer that I stop watching your broadcast so that I can get onto my computer to check out CBSnews.com etc.? And then it's only a matter of time before I'm back to looking at pictures of Anna Kournikova again. Or checking out gossip sites to see how Amy Winehouse melted down that day. ANyway, that's my 2 cents and I'm sure the networks will take heed and stop with the constant distractions and graphics any day now

Thursdays
1982-2007

What used to be TV's most powerful night is now one of its dullest nights. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are quickly becoming very competitive and turning into the highest hut level nights of the week, but Sunday and Monday are still very dominant.

The only things worth watching on Thursday are CSI, Grey's, and maybe Eleventh Hour or Life on Mars.

If you're a fan of The Office, Supernatural, and Survivor are alternatives. Everything else is DOA.

It fascinates me that there's such a distinct difference between the Big 3 (4? Did Fox run the debate? Or did it leave that to FNC?) Is it viewers showing their brand allegiance... or at least news-brand allegiance?

Well, some of it is loyalty--I watched on MSNBC because MSNBC has Olbermann and Maddow. But it's not like I was making any difference to MSNBC's ratings with no Nielsen box--and it's not like higher ratings during an event with no commercials helps MSNBC, except perhaps in terms of PR.

Don't forget, even though everybody's using the same feed, they don't all use it the same way--PBS showed it letterboxed--there are subtle differences in both the audio and visual aspects, from channel to channel. The graphics around the talking heads are different. People may just flip around from channel to channel until they find the feed that's jusssst right.

I don't have the exact numbers but from what I heard on the radio they were on par with last year and did even better in prime time with the Cubs.

Ugly Betty will go back up when Grey's returns, but I doubt we'll ever see it hit 10 mil again.

But even with numbers like this it'll probably see a 4th season because of how bad most of ABC's other shows are doing.

I know personally that my dad is a republican and chose to watch Fox news. I like ABC and Charles Gibson so I choose ABC.

Lost Dom, you're right

UB is one year away from syndication so ABC can make money off it at the end of next season so if it were to be yanked I say during the 5th season.

Given ABC's disastrous Wed lineup and that Betty scored pretty much the same as last week, i wouldn't label Ugly Betty a loser.

Ugly Betty and Earl are starting to become huge disappointments every Thursday their ratings become lower and lower. UB's ratings are good for a solid ratings performer, but UB is supposed to be a hit that gets between 11-15 million viewers on average and it doesn't do that.

MyNetworkTV is really slowly becoming a fifth place network. Last night they had the Magic show and I was entertained and they'll have a huge premiere for Smackdown!

I think Worst Week has one more week to prove itself on Monday. If it doesn't improve then CBS will yank it and make some heavy changes to their comedy lineups on Monday and Wednesday. I think Rules of Engagement needs to go back into production as soon as possible. CBS may need to make another sitcom for mid-season just in case Gary doesn't deliver on Monday nights.

If NBC is bringing back The Partridge Family then Thursday might need to change its whole interface and get rid of those single-cam comedies.

NBC should do this next year on Thursdays:
7-The Partridge Family
8-The Office
8:30-The Office (spin-off or a whole hour of Office)
9-New LA Police Series from ER creator.

If Partridge Family performs just as good as KR is doing currently then they might want to make this a young skewing night and bring back The Brady Bunch. Silverman loves retro TV programming.

The Partridge Family remake is going be huge. I think NBC should've brought back The Brady Bunch first to test the waters for these type of shows and then bring back PF.

PF would be the perfect show to anchor NBC Thursdays as they need a complete overhaul.

What did the absence of lead-out Grey's have anything to do with Ugly Betty?
