Its good for TV so I don't want it to die but I do agree it would be nice to see some real competition against it again besides NCIS. The Biggest Loser did great this spring. Lets hope NBC keeps their plan to stay aggressive. Lets hope ABC finds something worth watching to air against it.

Mushu, it's NBC we are discussing here, the right decision on their part is making the worst one, so why not air 30 Rock against AI?
As far as AI goes, I just wish it wasn't such a massive hit. Maybe take 18 in? Not 26? It's just irritating that the show sucks up all the viewers available. CBS is very lucky to find such a hit to stand against Idol.

Though I'm not a regular watcher, I did enjoy "Idol's" two-hour finale last night, and yes, the right man won.
"Idol" isn't going anywhere; it's still a powerhouse to deal with and any network would kill for its' numbers.

Just watched CM on the ol' DVR, and wow, that was a fantastic episode (especially after I thought the last two eps were kind of lame). To reward the show, I'm adding it to my sig

No one gets it. ABC has the best bag on programming on TV right now but you'd never know it by the way they schedule their shows and promote them.
I'm not a fan of ABC or their scheduling by any stretch of imagination but they need to be applauded for putting the creativity of their shows ahead of short term business profits.

Exactly mushu_jj. AI could be the last monster hit ever on TV. Sure everything being relative, someday there will be a show that gets 15 million viewers that we all think, “wow what a mega-hit.” Still, AI could indeed be the last franchise, exclusive to network TV, that is a true dominate force in this "new media" world. Whether you like or hate AI network TV will be diminished without it.

While I was confused by this schedule before, I think I get it now.
Every Thursday during sweeps, the network aired new episodes of their signature shows (meaning it was either UGLY BETTY, GREY'S ANATOMY or LOST). So they didn't do the cardinal sin of airing reruns or specials in place of their hits (excluding BETTY I guess). But with every network show suffering a severe drop in viewership, this scheduling may benefit the shows as they face almost zero competition (was DEAL OR NO DEAL a rerun?).
It can only help BETTY to have Lindsay Lohan and no real competition, while being billed as airing its season finale, and on the same night as GREY's season finale. And GREY'S doesn't have to face season finales of CSI and THE OFFICE. The cliffhanger season finales should set the tone for the premieres, so maybe ABC is hoping for a stronger carryover effect with this scheduling.
I'm not so sure about LOST. It helps that it too faces no competition next Thursday, but 2 weeks after the last original episode, and after viewers will get accustomed to a week a reruns and reality shows on the previous days, it can't help the show. They should have aired it yesterday 9pm-11pm, even though it would have faced the final hour of Idol (like last season).

Well in terms of cliffhangers, Greys was more like a series finale than anything last night. Everything basically wrapped up. Are they trying to get more fans to tune away? At least the characters were all likable for once.

AI fell by 20%+ in the demo some weeks, that is higher than the average decrease and the kind of numbers I want to see next year. Especially since AI was in no way affected by the strike and had next to zero competition.

It's killing two nights of TV a week every Spring. As far as I'm concerned it can't end soon enough.

They aren't really doing that--they are trying to protect large financial investments. And in the process, they hope to make a lot of money. And in the process, they may end up losing money, but not on purpose. The ultimate goal is profit. Not the only goal, but it's the goal without which all other goals become impossible. If a network doesn't make money, the network will cease to exist, and there will be no expensive overhyped dramas that nobody will want to watch in a few year's time.
LOST finale will do very well. Regardless of the fact that May sweeps ended, it will not affect a show like LOST. The show has a very loyal fan base, and the season finale always does well. The fact most schools will be out for summer vacations, their will be an uptick from the demos. I think the finale will do about a 5.5-5.8, and it will get another 3 milion+ viewers from the time-shifted numbers. It could do about a 7.8-8.0 on the ratings with a 15-17% share, with 13-14 million viewers on the LIVE+SD numbers. The final tally with LIVE+SD+7 will be around 15-16 million. See you than....
