Definitely came across as a possible series finale. Thank God it wasn't. Terrible numbers last night, but great episode once again. I'd like to see the half hour break downs if possible. The terrible lead in and Idol overrun certainly put a big dent in last night's numbers. I'd expect a 2.7 demo and 9-10 million viewers again next fall, however, if ABC doesn't mess with it next season like it did this one.

Preempting the Lost finale and then airing it 1 week after the "official" end of season is just crazy, I think it will take a huge hit in ratings. Fox tried to do the same thing with House last year and it took a massive hit in ratings. Speaking of sweeps couldn't ABC have come up with a way of airing these two big finales during sweeps? They would easily beaten CBS for the demo which they apparently lost/tied.

ABC isn't pre-empting the LOST finale for GA. The LOST finale wasn't due to complete post-production untill today and that's the reason it won't air till next week.

Also, the lost finale is 2 hours. It wouldn't fit this thurs. with the season finale of UB and Grey's, even if Grey's season finale was only an hour. ABC either had to put it on another night or put 1 hour after Grey's and another another night. It decided to add another hour to Grey's and put Lost's 2 hours on another night.

There have been some intersting season finales for CBS's crime shows. NCIS, CSI, CM, CSIMiami did a very good job in keeping some interest over the summer

ACTUALLY the reason is that the showrunners were going to do a one-hour finale tonight, but when writing/breaking the season finale story, decided it needed to be two hours. Then they decided, like with the previous finales, it was more effective as a two-hour event. So they asked the network, which obliged by asking Grey's to deliver a two-hour finale instead of a one-hour finale. Which is probably just fine for the network because it'll have two Thursdays of good ratings from 9-11pm until it drops off the face of the planet with repeats all summer (or whatever ABC is doing).

It definitely seemed like a series finale. Ending with "Gone Fishin" was a sure sign of that. I think it is great the Kelley was able to use his ownership of Life On Mars to get more BL.

Criminal Minds was amazing last night. The editing especially was great.

Yes, that's true. But because they went to a two hour finale, McPherson commented that the show wouldn't complete post-production until May 22nd.

I agree that Criminal Minds and CSI:Miami did a very good job in keeping that interest alive. (I did not see CSI or NCIS) Now I just have to wait until September! Mad

I thought that both Criminal Minds and CSI Miami had possibly the two best episodes of their respective series to date.

If I remeber the news story correctly, LOST needed/wanted 2 hours for it finale and it had to be back to back, for creative reasons. ABC then went to Greys and asked for a 2nd hour for its finale to fill the gaps. It was because of LOST that greys got this 2 hour finale tonight

I'll ditto the CRIMINAL MINDS accolades and I brought it up last nite in the previous day's thread.

I've seen numerous eps in both crime and intelligence shows deal with terror and this was one of the most interesting takes on the subject I had seen.

CSI:NY is lucky to build on its lead in. Most weeks it faces half the competition and still loses the audience. Had CSI:NY been treated like Boston Legal has been, then that lump of monotonous trash would be doing worse. Fact of the matter is that aside from season one when Housewives was the lead in and the past seasona and a half when Dancing was SOMETIMES the lead in, Boston Legals has always grown out of its lead in at sometime. Even Commander in Chief way back in season two. As for its "old fart" audience, those are the people you and robert continue to claim are so valuable for those CBS procedurals because they're the only ones watching those "valuable" repeats. My thinking is that most of them have simply forgotten what happened a couple months earlier. At least the rich old folks who watch Boston Legal have the sense not to watch the same episode and instead find something (perhaps golf or tennis) more valuable to do with their time instead of watch the woman from Providence waste her talents each week figuring out the same crime time and time again. Ooo, maybe if we're lucky, this week we'll get a stripper who winds up dead. At least the opening five minutes will offer some eye candy!

Bottom line: most fans are okay with Boston Legal ending next fall. It will be wrapped up and won't be staying past its welcome creatively, but ABC will most likely have a hard time replacing it, seeing as that not many shows can put up with the likes of Carpoolers, Big Day, and yes, According to Jim as a lead in this long.

BL's numbers are, and i'm being kind, pathetic. And if the fans cry it has no lead-in, let me tell you this: if a show in its 4th season still need a lead-in it is time to let it go. BL made the right decision only renweong it for 13 episodes

I still don't get why ABC is choosing to air two of their biggest shows finale outside of the spring sweeps period. I understand everything you are saying however they should have shown Grey's last night or even LOst last night(Oh--it wasn't out of post production yet--Right!!!!). Anyway, just seems stupid.
