Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 13 percent at this same point last year to approximately 23 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.

-Yesterday’s Winners: Dancing With the Stars (ABC), American Idol (Fox), NCIS (CBS)
-Yesterday’s Losers (Excluding Repeats): Most Outrageous Moments (NBC), Reaper (CW)

-Ratings Breakdown: American Idol-ignited Fox led Tuesday, with a hefty first-place finish in both total viewers and adults 18-49. But ABC ranked a potent second courtesy of a night of Dancing With the Stars, and CBS was on the map as a result of the season-finale of NCIS.
The final night of competition on Fox’s American Idol stood well above anything else in the 8 p.m. hour, with 26.07 million viewers and a 9.7 rating/27 share among adults 18-49. That led into Hell’s Kitchen, with 12.60 million viewers (#3) and a first-place 5.6/14 among adults 18-49 at 9 p.m. Retention for Hell’s Kitchen out of the second half-hour of American Idol (Viewers: 27.94 million; A18-49: 10.3/27 at 8:30 p.m.) was just 45 percent in total viewers and 54 percent among adults 18-49. Keep in mind, though, that the competition included Dancing With the Stars and the season-finale of CBS’ NCIS.
As for American Idol, I have been rooting for David Cook all season. But after last night’s performances, it is obvious David Archuletta will win. Did anyone else notice that the two Davids were reading the lyrics off a prompter?
ABC opened the evening with a repeat of Dancing With the Stars at 8.89 million viewers (#3) and a 1.9/ 5 among adults 18-49 (#3) at 8 p.m. The two-hour season-finale rose to a hefty 19.94 million viewers and a 5.3/14 in the demo from 9-11 p.m., building by half-hour as follows:
Dancing With the Stars (ABC) 9:00 p.m. -Viewers: 18.65 million (#1), A18-49: 4.7/12 (#2) 9:30 p.m. -Viewers: 19.62 million (#1), A18-49: 5.2/13 (#1) 10:00 p.m. Viewers: 20.36 million (#1), A18-49: 5.5/14 (#1) 10:30 p.m. Viewers: 21.13 million (#1), A18-49: 5.8/16 (#1)
Congratulations, Kristi Yamiguchi.
Despite the severity of the competition, CBS got plenty of mileage out of the two-hour season-finale of NCIS at 16.35 million viewers and a 3.4/ 9 among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m., and growth in each half-hour as follows:
NCIS led into the series-finale of Shark at a second-place 10.55 million viewers and a 2.5/ 6 among adults 18-49 at 10 p.m. While the overall performance for Shark was not bad by any means this season, what did the show in was the older skew.
NBC had nothing of note to report last night with its combination of two episodes (original and repeat) of Most Outrageous Moments (Viewers: #4, avg. 4.04 million; A18-49: #4, avg. 1.4/ 4), and two repeat episodes of Law & Order: SVU (9 p.m. – Viewers: #4, 3.86 million; A18-49: #4, 1.4/ 3 -- 10 p.m. – Viewers: #3, 5.69 million; A18-49: #3, 2.0/ 5).
The CW capped off the evening with a repeat of Reaper (Viewers: #5, 1.75 million; A18-49: #5, 0.8/ 2), followed by the freshman season-ender at 2.69 million viewers and a 1.2/ 3 among adults 18-49 (#5). Look for the return of Reaper in 2008-09 in midseason in place of the expected-to-conclude Smallville.
Last night seemed to be one of the strongest viewing nights of the season.
AI did pretty good with all the competition and granted it's been on a ratings slide, like all the other networks. I am rooting for Cook but DA did blow up yesterday. I wonder if the teleprompter wasn't there, would of he flubbed some lines?? HK just baffles me. I look at these chefs and I wouldn't want any of them any where near my kitchen. Any one from this season's Top Chef would of destroyed them.
Good numbers with DWTS. I just wish that show was on once a year. Too many dance shows are popping up. My fave is still SYTYCD which starts Thursday.
NCIS put up some great numbers, viewers at least. This show seems to gather more momentum. What season is this show on now?
NBC is dead in the water. They'll be lucky if they place higher than 4 next year in any category. What a fall from grace it's been for them. Maybe they should try to get Shark and Close to Home on their network next year. They could use 10 million viewers for any show now.
I've already said it, NCIS is one of the few crime shows i don't like. But i have to say, those results against that competition are fantastic. And 18 million in the last half hor beats CSI's numbers (post-strike numbers)
The mysteries of the Loser/Winner list, continued.
Reaper this week, a Loser

Two weeks ago, not a Loser

I think the ratings for Reaper this week are pretty good and somewhat encouraging for next year, especially since it was at around 2m/1.0 demo last week.

The second half of of the two-hour NCIS finale had more viewers than the second half of the two-hour Desperate Housewives finale.
If that's not embarassing enough for DH, NCIS was up against DWTS its second hour. It was up against AI in its first, which is probably the only reason it had fewer viewers than DH from 8-9.
DH was up against the Country Music Awards, repeats of The Office and L&O:SVU, a repeat of The Family Guy, and the finale of American Dad.

Might you even say that NCIS is a wee bit--underrated?

I was really rooting for David C. to win AI, but after last night, I think Archuletta did better. A shame because if Cook wins I don't wanna hear the cries of the crowds saying it's unfair. He could have the potencial to be the next Chris Daughtry.
Reaper being a loser is maybe a little harsh. Maybe Mark labed it loser, because the CW has been doing a bit better and Reaper continues to be the weaker drama on the CW?
