There's no denying that those are weak numbers for GG. But I do think it's got a chance to improve. A lot of teen soaps don't come barreling out of the gates. Shows like The O.C., Buffy, and even VM gained in hype and viewers as they went on in their first season. It still has a chance. But they really need to step up the drama, because last night was pretty dull.

Yay! Nice to be back.

I DVR'd Kid Nation, and will probably check it out over the weekend.

As for GG, I actually really liked it. Sad that the numbers weren't over 4 million though.

I really enjoyed Kitchen Nightmares too.

Back To You makes me vomit.

I doubt either of these statements will come true. The CW will give Gossip Girl time to grow and running after ANTM is the best place to do that.

Out of last night's new shows, "Kitchen Nightmares" seems to have the best chance of surviving long-term. Most of the Ramsey audience tuned in and liked what they got. There likely won't be much (or any) dropoff there.

"Back to You" drew in some curiosity viewers for Grammer and Heaton but when the sitcom is clearly below the level of both "Frasier" and "Everybody Loves Raymond," initial viewers may not stick around.

"Kid Nation" had a good ratings debut but may have needed a great one. How many of the first week's viewers attracted by controversy will tune in for subsequent weeks? I have my doubts.

As for "Gossip Girl" maybe the show will pick up more potential viewers once they realize that it's on the air already. More likely though, The CW may just be incapable of launching new shows at all. At that point of realization, executives would seriously have to reconsider The CW's existence.

Time to grow?. By next week i doubt it will have more than 3.5 million viewers (and i'm optimistic).

Yep...even Ostroff mentioned that they would give their new shows more time and were going to be patient with them this season, unlike last season. So, we will see.

Peace!!

DoND is only a 'great' ratings performer on Monday nights. NBC has moved it away from the only place it really woked. From this point forward, it will be a middling performer.

You know, this has always been my opinion too. But this show was putting up much stronger demo numbers last October on Thursdays at 9, where it was up against original Grey's and original CSI. Hard to deny the franchise's erosion.

PLAY NOW | STANDINGS | Congrats to week 8 winner spotupj! | Winter/Spring 2010 Top 5 (thru 2/26):
1. Douglas (2552) 2. spotupj (2404) 3. Ammit (2146) 4. yankeesrj12 (1908) 5. WlcmZ.Texas (1774)

Mark,

Whats up?

I was wondering...do you see the ratings for gossip girl picking up a bit in the long run? Do you think this series will be around for awile? I know that 3mill is a little disappointing but considering it is on the CW isnt that considered ok?

Mike

With Private Practice, Bionic Woman, and Criminal Minds all coming next week, I would not expect Kitchen Nightmares to hold its audience.

I like your optimism but Private Practice goes into full swing next week and the viewer response to GG after watching the pilot isn't the best. As much as the CW would love it to grow, I don't know how it can grow. It isn't like they forgot to promote the show. The interest just isn't there.

Um...so? Are you predicting a quick return of OTH or some majical shuffling of the schedule for something else? I'm predicting that Gossip Girl stays in this timeslot at least through the conclusion of this season of ANTM. It isn't like CW has a bunch more shows waiting in the wings. Gossip Girl is not in danger of getting cancelled.

I hope Kid Nation falls in ratings next week so that Jericho can be back on air early Wink

I'm going to hold off judgment on GG till next week. Still think far too many people haven't realized fall tv has started and I know in the Midwest several colleges started class yesterday which is hardly a great day for TV viewing. Go to class, get syllabus and hit the bar was the more likely plan of events for last nights first day of college kids.

While I expected better numbers for GG the reality is it basically replaced VM on the roster and doubled VMs numbers. Not a win for the CW but they have to be happy on some level.

I'm not saying that. GG is almost surely gonna get a full season. They will not bring OTH back earlier. I'm just saying GG will not grow. It would be good for CW if it will stay at around 3.6 million viewers. CW was expecting much more but they'll be happy if it doesn't lose more viwers
