No offense, but may I suggest actually doing the job you are getting paid for as a more productive way of spending your workday?

Oh please

None taken, but I have a lot of downtime here.

And you must have a fair bit yourself, if you want to tell someone you've never met how to use his time, because you don't like his opinions.

Seriously, do you really think I'm the only regular here who posts from work?

Where are you posting from pray tell? Your yacht?

I'll take the blame if I can have the ranch in Texas to go with it. And the cute Scotty Dog.

G'NIGHT!

The thing, pisher, is that if you want to bash the show, talk about its quality, not its ratings. And, you will agree with me here, the ratings of a show, or its popularity, doesn't reflect its quality.

And that's coming from a Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Lost fan.

What do you mean continues to fall -- its ratings are up anywhere between 2-3 million from much of last season. This reversed that slide, so there is nothing to continue. While I would not be surprised if it drop some viewers over the course of its run, it's also very quite possible that with reduced competition it will hold steady around 15-16 million. Again, for me 14 million is its bottom while CSI is no reruns...

Lost is also up from last season's spring premiere on Feb 7th which got 1.6m and a 6.4 in 18-49. Good news all around for ABC. As for last night's episode Jorge Garcia gave a great emmyworthy performance.

Well not so many liked it here.

Most did -- unless you count multiple personalities to come up with higher numbers... Wink

I dont understand how anyone can hope that a tv show's numbers continue to fall. That makes no sense. Would we rather come here and discuss how the ratings for a CSI episode does in it's fifth repeat. I'm not a LOST fan, but thank god it pulled decent ratings given the current landscape of network television. It gives me something of interest to read about and discuss today.

I'd really be interested to see LOST's live+7 ratings. Can someone please post those when they become available?

Travis admitted elsewhere that the advance reviews had him hoping for much better.

Not exactly a marginal pisher-centric fringe group.

In fact, I think I've gotten into fights with all of these people.

Well, maybe not NYHunter.

Hard to keep track.

The hardcore fans as expected loved the premiere (even some of my friends). Others that are not sucg big Lost fans are generally disatisfied including myself

I'm not a hardcore fan... (never download any of the webisodes, or go to the website and speculate, etc. etc.) Just a big fan who never misses an episode and...

I thought it was a fantastic episode.

More to the point, it was just AN EPISODE...

Why would ABC be remotely unhappy or concerned with Lost's numbers? They are probably thrilled. The fact that it's up about 4 million viewers and 1.5 18-49 points from when it last aired is reason enough. I think 16.1/6.7 would have been a very high end estimate for them, considering:

1) It's been off the air for 8 months (The Sopranos ratings dropped after a similar hiatus)
2) DVR penetration is now double what it was last season, and last season DVRs had a significant impact on Lost's ratings. With Live + 7 day, we're likely looking at 17.5 to 18 million.
3) Despite it being "all repeat" competition, Lost is not a show that people just pick up at random. Lost will never hit 22 million again. The fact that it went from 12 to 16 is a huge surprise. CSI viewers aren't going to watch Lost just because CSI is a repeat.
4) 16.1/6.7 puts it close behind both DH and GA, ABC's top scripted series.
5) Network TV in general has posted staggering declines this season. Lost bucked that trend.

Thursday original finals

SHOW HH A18-49 Viewers A18-34

LOST RECAP 8.0/12 5.0/13 13,158,000
LOST 9.4/14 6.7/17 16,137,000
ELI STONE (10:02pm) 7.1/12 4.0/11 11,145,000

APPRENTICE (2 hours) 5.1/8 3.2/8 7,820,000

SMARTER THAN A 5TH GRADER 6.4/10 3.1/8 10,555,000
DON'T FORGET THE LYRICS (9:01pm) 6.0/9 3.3/8 10,070,000

SMALLVILLE 2.4/4 1.6/4 3,811,000 1.6/5
SUPERNATURAL 1.8/3 1.3/3 2,949,000 1.2/3

And I'd like to add that I've had the opportunity to rewatch "The Beginning of the End" and it was much better than my first blush impression. It still does not live up to the hype heaped on it by critics, but I think it does a better job being a follow-up to a huge season-finale cliffhanger than "Man of Science, Man of Faith" was. It's setting stuff up, and (at least) half the fun of Lost is wondering where the heck it's going.

Thanks Travis for posting the final numbers. All I can say is, at least SN didn't slip that much from the fast nationals to the final ratings. The show is still on par with the rest of the season.

Peace!!
