I wasn't happy with the first LOST episode too. quote: Originally posted by pisher: Posters on this thread other than myself who have openly expressed dissatisfaction with Lost's S4 premiere-- Zitrone Robert NYHunter Travis admitted elsewhere that the advance reviews had him hoping for much better. Not exactly a marginal pisher-centric fringe group. In fact, I think I've gotten into fights with all of these people. Well, maybe not NYHunter. Hard to keep track.

I'd say Sawyer, Desmond and Claire.

ABC Jumps into Lead on the First Night of the 2008 February Sweep: After the first night of the February Sweep, ABC is the ruler of the roost in the young adult demo, households and viewership. After one night, FOX and MyNetworkTV are the only two networks to show year-over-year improvement (the FOX year-over-year improvement on Thursdays is really quite astounding). ABC and The CW experienced a low double-digit year-over-year declines, while CBS and NBC both sustained large double-digit losses from last year.

Interesting that ABC takes the 1 day lead while at the same time putting up the weaker performers (Lost and Lost) vs. last year's Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy.
The real news is, of course, is FOX's improvement. The sucess of their new Thursday night may just make up for the dropoff that idol is having.

i think its interesting that dumont posts these figures only when abc is doing well...where were you the last 2 months when abc fell more then 1/2 a point? abc went from a solid first to a 4th place position in 2 months... quote: Originally posted by Obveeus: Interesting that ABC takes the 1 day lead while at the same time putting up the weaker performers (Lost and Lost) vs. last year's Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy.

Dumont is posting these now because it's February sweeps. He did the same thing during November sweeps, and I'm sure will do it again during May. It has nothing to do with trying to make ABC look good.

LOST DEBATE CONTINUED:
Lost did about 16.1 million viewers on Thursday.
Some Facts: It should also be noted when looking at the numbers for the show, “Lost” was among the most recorded and played back TV shows last season, gaining 1.3 million viewers and 12% in Adults 18-49 on average from its Live + Same Day to its Live + 7 Day numbers.
Therefore, we know that LOST will gain another 1.5 to 2.0 million viewers with DVR playback.
DVR penetration is now at 22%, v 10% over a year ago. Most people that do have DVR record shows and watch it at their own time, and altering the advertisement. Therefore, one should assume that the DVR playback numbers should even go higher for a show like LOST. So, based on those facts, it wouldn't be impossible for lost to gain another 12%-15%-20% gain on DVR playback.
The debate between Obama V Clinton attracted a lot of interest and possibly the same demographic that watches LOST. I think there a good number of viewers that were affected by this in the East Coast.
To suffice, LOST final number will be around 18 million with the DVR playback numbers. I think both Robert, and some of the gang, need to stop spending too much time watching tv. Just like me, and some other folks, we only come and watch selected shows, in my case, Only LOST. There is nothing good on TV, and nothing appeals to me.
Lost remains to be one of the most popular shows around the world.
ABC is proud of LOST..So, are most of the fans of LOST. Lost will attract some new viewers this season with nothing else on TV.

Dumont likes to track the sweeps periods specifically, so that is no surprise. Now, if vlis all of a sudden popped up to tout ABC's victory, it would be worth noting for its ABC shill-ness. Then again, these days vlis is busy trying to keep a fellow ABC shill from embarassing that network too much with hype posts here.

I think that 10% number for last year has already been shown to have been way too low. I wonder if the 22% number for this year is low as well or if the Nielsen estimates are finally keeping up with the DVR conversion? quote: Most people that do have DVR record shows and watch it at their own time, and altering the advertisement. In general, this is true. However, for the premiere episode, I'd guess that a much higher than usual number of DVR timeshifters still watched later that night. quote: The debate between Obama V Clinton attracted a lot of interest and possibly the same demographic that watches LOST. Another good point. That debate must have eaten into the viewer numbers for network TV Thursday night. However, in terms of demographics, I think The Apprentice would be the most affected by that debate. Lost probably wasn't affected any more than the CSI rerun. quote: There is nothing good on TV, and nothing appeals to me.
A bit of an exaggeration, but the WGA strike and the trend away from comedy has given TV more of that feel. quote: Lost will attract some new viewers this season with nothing else on TV.
I saw the ABC advertisements claiming that new viewers could jump right in this season. I doubt many people will believe it.

Actually, not that Dumont needs defending, but every sweep period he posts updated sweep numbers on a daily basis, which I thank him for.

Yea I don't think dumont has a bias for ABC (now for MNTV ). I do appreciate his/her giving us the updated sweeps info - even though personaly I think this sweeps period probably doesn't matter to the Nets much. It is nice to have this info daily. So thanks, dumont.

Sweeps are slowly losing their relevance as networks are taking a more year round approach to programming. Certainly, this sweeps period will not be taken seriously by advertisers because so many of the shows they will be paying for going forward are in rerun (or are up against rerun competition).

Lost is also up from last season's spring premiere on Feb 7th which got 1.6m and a 6.4 in 18-49. Good news all around for ABC. As for last night's episode Jorge Garcia gave a great emmyworthy performance.
Well not so many liked it here.
Which means absolutely nothing...
