It's legit to want a show you like to end. There's a point when some shows just feel like they're heading irrevocably off the track, and hoping it ends before it embarasses itself is consistent with liking it. Heck, deep down inside I'm glad Firefly didn't last much longer, because two extra never-aired episodes (the second Mrs. Reynolds ep, and the brothel ep) were a lot weaker than the rest of the show, so there was already the sense that Joss and company would not be able to maintain the blistering greatness that they started with.
There are plenty of examples of shows and athletes that outstayed their welcome to their fans' chagrin.
Heck, most shows overstay their welcome and by the time they end, you wish they got canceled years before. Both Angel and Buffy are prime examples. ER is another (and it's still on, dunno why). Gilmore Girls reached that point, only to get slightly better in its last few eps. Firefly never got corrupted, therefore it's hard to tell what would have happened had it lived longer. I wasn't happy with the direction Moonlight took in its last few eps (with the exception of the finale, which was great), but I would have given it another shot. GA is finishing its 4th season. We've seen it at its best, and now it's on a sharp decline. I am hopeful, but I also know that realistically, the chance of reversing the trend are pretty slim.
GA season finale was excellent last night. The best episode of the season. It's finally get back to where it should be.
By the time Grey's had been on for 20 minutes, it had already taken three full commercial breaks. It felt like they tried to stretch an hour-long episode into two hours. The commercials were mind-numbing.
Last night was the first night I had watched Grey's in a year. It reminded me of why I stopped watching it in the first place. Yuck.
One thing I don't understand is how can 10+ million people sit there and watch DOND? I always record it so I can fast foward all the garbage and the commercials. In the end I only watch maybe 10 minutes of it LOL!!!!!!!
It was the most watched finale for a drama this year, in demo and viewers... if it is a "disaster", what words would you use to describe Moonlight's performance?
Well, disaster is a relative thing in the entertainment biz. I wouldn't call it disastrous, but I wouldn't call it purely a result of the strike or overall viewer trends, either. The show just isn't very good anymore. A lot of people are staying with it out of habit, or because they've gotten attached to certain characters. That only works for so long. Bit by bit, they drop away. Characters need good stories to sustain them, or they die. Then you've only got a bunch of overpaid actors, mouthing dialogue they don't believe in.
I watched the last few minutes--again? They're doing the Meredith/McSteamy thing AGAIN?
It all reeks of desperation.
But yeah, anybody who thinks ABC is delighted with DH ratings is going to look pretty silly saying they're dismayed with Greys. Though probably a bit dismayed they don't count for sweeps.

You are kidding, Right?
CSI Is one of the stronger series, with repeats, on TV. CSI does very well in Repeats, and usualy out does most show's First run numbers.
Last night' repeats were not rated high because of Grey's Finale. It' repeats will do around 9 million viewers and a mid-two in the demo for most of the summer.
"Thursdays were a mistake for CBS", Pah-lease! Its summer programming season now. Be ready for the top show of the week to pull only 10-11 million viewers, once ABC finish airings its "out of Sweeps Month" finales next week.
* "Grey's Anatomy" season closer qualified as TV's highest-rated scripted series telecast in nearly 4 months among Adults 18-49 - since an episode of "House" on 2/5/08, which had the advantage of following an episode of "American Idol."

The story does not specify that.
You did a better job at writing than the person that wrote the article for THR.
Thank you TVCHTW for stating exactly what I was feeling. Everyone is entitled to their feelings however if you don't like it then don't watch it. Nobody is forcing you to watch you know. Personally this season has gotten much truer to form since the debacle of last season and last night's episode was the icing on the cake for me. A beautifully done episode that showcased all the main characters and was back to its intoxicating mix of medical dramas that mirrored our characters dilemmas and personal storylines. The music was great, the storylines satisfying, and the 2 hours was totally entertaining for me--except for all those lousy commercial breaks. What more can you ask for from a show??? Every show is down these days(except for the finale of AI) and Grey's is still one of the top drawing shows on TV in viewers and in the demo. The chemistry between Dempsey and Pompeo is sizzling--you could almost feel it through the screen that they belong together(I mean their characters of course). I, for one, hope that this show last for at least 3 more seasons maybe more if the storylines can support it effectively. Series Finale??? Let's wait another few years and then we can talk about that. Just let those who enjoy this show enjoy this show without actively wishing for it;s demise. Just change the channel or stop watching--it's that simple. As for me, I'm back again next season as the finale left me feeling really good and I like that. Hope instead of mystery--who would have thought that would be a cliffhanger that works--but it does, Blanch, it does. LOL!!! So to me, it does cut it as even CSI's finale only went up a bit if I recall last week's ratings. Of course as you will say, it was up against a new episode of Grey's and NBC comedies and Fox's game shows. Yes, however this is the reality right now. All network TV is changing and the ratings are showing that. People are finding other channels or other ways to entertain themselves.

I mean most of this season has been dragging along but the past few episodes have really done alot to get the show moving again, resolving some old storylines to move forward. I know alot of people bailed when the plots were getting stale but now its really kicking again and i'm really looking forward to next fall.

Personally, I felt they were thinking about what to order for lunch.
And you KNOW they'll just break them up again next season.
Hell, the way they ended it, they may not even be TOGETHER next season. Something happens with the girlfriend, and McDreamy can't break up with her. You can almost fill in the blanks at this stage of the game.
It'll run a few more years, the ratings will keep falling, it'll end, and people will forget about it very quickly.
But for 2.5 seasons of pretty decent entertainment, thank you Shonda Rhimes.
I hope I can someday forgive you for hiring Marti Noxon.
WTH is it that somebody cannot be critical of a show that they are watching without being shamed for continuing to watch the show?
Actually, I think this forum would benefit from more of that type of fan criticism.
And I definitely think it would be better off if fans were more willing to call out their own shows when ratings don't meet expectations instead of the ceaseless offering of rationales which as we have all seen are not difficult to conjure up.

It's even more twisted than that, man. If you STOPPED watching, they would say you had given up any right to criticize--how do you know it's not better? Oh, so you gave it another chance and you still didn't like it? Well, you shouldn't have been watching it then. You must secretly still like it.
You only have the right to criticize a show if you watch every single minute of it.
But if you watch every single minute of it, your criticism is meaningless and should be dismissed out of hand.
Ever read Joseph Heller?

Or even better, criticism of fans. Because they SUCK. No wonder their ratings are down.

Or we could just keep doing it the way we always do, agreeing with the ratings when they agree with us, and saying they aren't important when they don't.
