What follows are the fast affiliate results for Saturday, May 24, broken out overall and by network per half hour. Now that the traditional (September to May) TV season over, get used to these pesky repeats!
I'm no expert on basketball, but it puzzles me that little ole TNT gets 6.2 million viewers for a playoff game (up against the Idol finale), and yet a playoff game on ABC draws only 4.3 million viewers...must have been the teams playing.
And what a dreadful rating for CBS's movie special, Vinegar Hill, which was rather enjoyable. That 0.7 A18-49 is pretty near to what MyNetworkTV has gotten for some of its Saturday night films.
Saturday night films on the networks must now compete with TCM's commercial-free Saturday film franchise, The Essentials (now co-hosted by Miss Rose McGowan and Mr. Robert Osborne) which presents the very best of Hollywood over the decades. This is very difficult competition for CBS to overcome with their films, which tend to be obscure titles (ABC and MyNetworkTV program more popular fare).
The most viewers for the night in any half hour was 5.65 million viewers. Thats sad.
POST 900!
VOTE IN THE PIF NETWORK GAME: http://pifeedback.com/eve/foru...93910104/m/854104282 TONIGHT: ---> NEW <--- EPISODES OF GREATEST DAY, AND MEGA DODGEBALL. PLUS BACK FOR GOOD, GETTING SOME, THE ONLINE LIFE, AND YOU'VE GOT THE WRONG MAN! ALSO, ROSIE'S ROUNDTABLE (WITH BETTY WHITE!) AND GIRALDO LIVE!
Expect CBS to get 0.8s in the Summer. Like last year, CBS Friday (0.8/2) got beaten by all networks (especially The CW who led the demo with a 1.4/4) and that was a Friday that should go to CBS, which programmed repeats of Ghost Whisperer, Numb3rs and another Numb3rs.

The Lakers are definitely the league's biggest draw and TNT has the Western Conference Finals this year. Plus that first game was a more competitive game than last night. And while it probably doesn't have too much of an impact on ratings, TNT's presentation of the NBA is of a much higher quality than ESPN/ABC.

I'm a little shocked how poorly the playoffs did for ABC. I thought it would have rated higher.
Despite the low ratings, this is an improvement over last year. Last year the playoffs averaged 3.99 million.
And clearly CBS doesn't care for their movies, as they just shove them on the lowest rated night.
Last year the final numbers for the pre-game averaged 2.23 million viewers and the game between San Antonio at Utah averaged 4.70 million viewers. You would think with Boston and Detroit a better result would have occured, however, the outcome was pretty clear at the start of the 4th quarter with Boston in the lead.

I'm not a basketball follwer so i don't have any idea, but are these kind of numbers typicall for NBA playoffs? I mean average PGA tournaments get that kind of numbers. And i allways thought basketabll is more popular than golf
Also remember that the Pistons vs Celtics game went head to head with the Red Wings vs Penguins Stanley Cup Final game. I'm sure that cut into the rating especially in Detroit a market that would drive ratings for both.
