-Ratings Breakdown:
It was a Monday of mixed leadership, with dancing ABC the most-watched network and CBS No. 1 among adults 18-49. Third in both categories was NBC, followed by Fox and the CW.

A 90-minute edition of Dancing With the Stars took center stage, of course, with 18.55 million viewers and a 4.1/10 among adults 18-49 from 8-9:30 p.m. Here is the half-hour break-down:

Dancing With the Stars (ABC)
8:00 p.m. – Viewers: 17.27 viewers (#1), A18-49: 3.7/10 (#1)
8:30 p.m. – Viewers: 18.92 million (#1), A18-49: 4.2/10 (#1)
9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 19.47 million (#1), A18-49: 4.4/10 (#2)

That led into Samantha Who?, which dipped to 11.03 million viewers (#1) and a third-place 3.0/ 7 among adults 18-49 at 9:30 p.m. Compared to the 9 p.m. portion of Dancing With the Stars, retention was just 57 percent in total viewers and 58 percent among adults 18-49. So, yes, that makes it a loser. The final season of Boston Legal closed the night for ABC with 8.96 million viewers (#2) and a last-place 2.4/ 6 among adults 18-49 at 10 p.m.

CBS’ Monday weak-link remains the recently introduced Worst Week, with 9.90 million viewers (#2) and a 3.2/ 7 among adults 18-49 (#2) at 9:30 p.m. Comparably, retention out of lead-in Two and a Half Men (Viewers: #2, 14.55 million; A18-49: #1, 5.1/12) was just 68 percent in total viewers and 63 percent in the demo. Earlier in the evening on CBS were sitcoms The Big Bang Theory (Viewers: #2, 9.28 million; A18-49: #2, 3.5/ 9) and How I Met Your Mother (Viewers: #2, 9.36 million; A18-49: #2, 3.9/10), which continue to build from one year earlier (up, on average, by 1.50 million viewers and 19 percent among adults 18-49). CSI: Miami moved into the 10 p.m. winner’s circle, with 13.25 million viewers and a 3.8/10 among adults 18-49. But versus it’s year-ago performance (Viewers: 15.59 million; A18-49: 4.8/12 on Oct. 22, 2007), that was a decrease of 2.34 million viewers and 21 percent in the demo.

Over at fading NBC, the news remains bleak. Sophomore Chuck opened the evening third in the 8 p.m. hour, with 6.70 million viewers and a 2.5/ 6 among adults 18-49. Lead-out Heroes perked up to 8.46 million viewers (#3) and a 3.9/ 9 among adults 18-49 (#2) at 9 p.m. But one year earlier, Heroes was considerably stronger at 11.41 million viewers and a 5.2/12 in the demo. Week two of drama My Own Worst Enemy closed the evening with just 5.72 million viewers and a 2.5/ 6 among adults 18-49 at 10 p.m. -- down from its week-ago debut (Viewers: 7.27 million; A18-49: 3.0/ 8 on Oct. 13) by 1.55 million viewers and 17 percent in the demo.

Fox has also taken a noticeable hit on Monday with is combination of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (Viewers: #4, 5.34 million; A18-49: #4, 2.1/ 5), which the network may want to consider renewing for the full season, and Prison Break (Viewers: #4, 5.84 million; A18-49: #4, 2.3/ 5), which is likely to end this season.

The CW capped off the evening with the healthy combination of Gossip Girl (Viewers: #5, #5, 3.03 million; A18-49: #5, 1.5/ 4) and One Tree Hill (Viewers: #5, 3.65 million; A18-49: #5, 1.9/ 5), which continue to build from the year-ago sitcom rotation. Gossip Girl built from its year-ago performance by 20 percent in total viewers and as much as 25 percent among adults 18-34, while One Tree Hill won the 9 p.m. hour in women 18-34 and females 12-34.

One Tree Hills's '2.3' in the demo simply HAS to be a misprint.

Boston Legal continues to go up week-to-week, even without a direct DWTS lead-in. ABC really should reconsider and give it a full season order. They need it.

Marc, I assume you meant the network might want to REconsider renewing SCC for the whole season?

And they really should--at the very least cut the order. This is beyond disastrous, when its only drama competition is the almost as pathetic Chuck.

Hey, CW's got to be pretty chuffed that they're so close behind FOX and NBC.

SCC isn't stumbling--it's flat on its back. And getting flatter all the time.

Chuck gained 700,000 viewers from last week! granted its still struggeling from last year but this has gotta be a bit of good news for chuck.

If the night averaged 1.7 in A18-49 and 'Gossip' got 1.5, that would make 'One Tree Hill' a 1.9.

Nice ratings for One Tree Hill. It's held pretty steady over the years.

1. SCC is a disaster, no way to spin it. With a decent lead-in PB could do much better, and it would do better at 8pm ALSO

2. NBC is crashing and burning. They lay off people, they post big financial losses and they make horrible decisions like letting Jay Leno walk (it's just an example)

3. As much as i hate WW it does decently. No need to take it away just yet. CSIM is doing badly this season

4. Once again great numbers for OTH. It trashed GG in ratings and it got a whopping 3.1 in 18-34 (male and female). That's the second place between all shows at 9pm in 18-34. Amazing

Wow, OTH is really starting to build on GG. I'm sure The CW is just thrilled.

I think ABC won't give BL any full-season order. They've done the scripts, and as far as I know, they're quite near to shot the series finale.
DEK has already signed for a pilot with NBC (a legal dramedy about two lawyers, father and daughter). They were just mad to not give a full-season to a keeper like BL, but they gave a 13 episodes order just because of the Life on Mars-DEK affair.

BTW, I really love that it's going out on an high note, and I'm looking forward to see how many ABC series are doing better this week. With these numbers, next series in the radar is Ugly Betty.

Something tells me we are going to be seeing a lot more Worst Week. Even though its retention numbers are still low it has stabilized since DWTS left the time slot, and the weaker SW replaced it. Also, just remember CBS has lots of promotional dollars in this show, and loves it. Something tells me they are going to stick with it a lot longer than most of us would like, and hope it builds. I have no idea what this means for ROE.

The renewel of SCC is a triumph for quality, serialized story telling. I'm so glad FOX Stood behind a show for once. Yeah, it doesn't pull in the ratings of watching a bunch of wash up stars and nobodies dancing around on the stage...but it tells an intricatly, detailed and woven story with a great cast.

Good for TERMINATOR and good for FOX!

WORST ENEMY appears done for...JOURNYMAN was a better show with slightly better ratings and it was gone by January.
