-Ratings Breakdown:
NBC closed the week with an easy victory care of Sunday Night Football. The New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys match-up averaged an approximate 16.49 million viewers and a 6.9 rating/17 share among adults 18-49 for the prime-time portion of the game (from 8:30-11 p.m.). The comparable year-ago match-up between the Giants and the Colts averaged a considerably heftier 22.57 million viewers and an 8.8/22 among adults 18-49, according to the final nationals. Earlier in the evening on NBC was the football pre-game at an estimated 9.74 million viewers and a 3.8/11 in the demo from 7-8:30 p.m. Keep in mind that ratings for any live sporting event are always approximate.

Elsewhere, Fox was third overall in total viewers and second among adults 18-49 with its combination of the final half-hour of football (Viewers: #1, 13.52 million; A18-49: #1, 5.9/17), football post game The OT (Viewers: #3, 7.71 million; A18-49: #2, 3.3/10), two repeat episodes of The Simpsons (Viewers: #4, avg. 6.06 million; A18-49: #3, avg. 2.9/ 7 from 8-9 p.m.), and two repeat episodes of Family Guy (Viewers: #4, avg. 6.13 million; A18-49: #2, avg. 3.1/ 7 from 9-10 p.m.).

Over at CBS, since the network started approximately 30-minutes late on the East coast due to a sports overrun, the fast affiliate averages are not accurate and are not being reported by show (just by network average in the above chart).

Repeats on ABC -- a two-hour edition of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (Viewers: 6.70 million; A18-49: 2.1/ 6 from 7-9 p.m.) and theatrical Meet the Fockers (Viewers: 7.94 million; A18-49: 2.8/ 7 from 9-11 p.m.) -- were an improvement over recent summer levels. And the CW capped off the evening with its last-place combination of Smallville (Viewers: 1.39 million; A18-49: 0.5/ 1), the concluded 7th Heaven (Viewers: 1.04 million; A18-49: 0.4/ 1), and Pussycat Dolls Present (Viewers: 922,000; A18-49: 0.3/ 1).

For someone, like myself, who has enjoyed the entertainment in watching Dick Donato this season, I have this hope: Zach wins Big Brother 8!!!

(If you're reading this and have not yet caught up to recent happenings in the Big Brother house, please STOP READING NOW!)

During Sunday's episode, the Donatos played with the idea of ousting Zach and how "funny" that would be. Now with Zach in power as Head of Household, it was only fitting that he nominated the Donatos. It's the best chance for him to get rid of either Donato, but let's face it - the Donato to get rid of is Daniele.

So beforehand, the Donatos pressured Zach in claiming to him something like 'remember the final-three deal you made with us' and 'we're the ones who kept you out of harm's way all season long'. And now they're whining and complaining about their nominations? This coming from the same family who not only laughed at the possibility of ousting Zach this week if Daniele became HoH, but had no qualms evicting their just-recent allies, Jessica and Eric. Dick immediately tells Eric, seconds after Eric's eviction, "it's just a game." Meanwhile, "Evil" and his spoiled brat of a daughter, who's in fantasy-land if she thinks she has a future with Nick, act like 2-year olds and couldn't believe how they could be nominated together once again.

Donatos, there are 4 people in the house left and you two have dominated this game, why wouldn't you be nominated? You had it coming.

I admit I've labeled Zach as boring and lacking hygiene (according to Amber and Jameka, him not washing his hands after a #2, but to be fair, neither does Dick, allegedly) but out of the 4, I am rooting for him to win. What sour grapes in Daniele hating Zach's bravado and cockiness in his nominations! I mean, I don't consider Daniele nor her father exactly as "humble" players. For someone who won 6 challenges this season (2 HoHs, 4 PoVs) and was the mainly the power of the house nearly all summer, I have to mention a line from a Rolling Stones song: "you can't always get what you want!"

It just so happens that Zach is now performing to the best of his ability, which in hindsight, he was not doing in prior challenges. And you know what? Zach's strategy has worked so far - it convinced the former alliance of the Donatos-Jessica-and-Eric to think Zach was not a threat and evicted the even-lesser threat in challenges, Amber, just because she happens to be "nice" and aligned with Jameka (not to mention, also way too emotional). When it came time to step it up, Zach has delivered.

But here's the thing:

I believe Zach's best chance to win "Big Brother 8" is to be paired up with "Evil" Dick in the final 2.

I believe "Evil" Dick's best chance to win "Big Brother 8" is to be paired up with Zach in the final 2.

So these two need each other to make the jury, outside of Daniele, think long and hard in deciding the winner - do they decide based on the many strategic moves by "Evil" Dick or do they vote for Zach because it's an anti-Dick vote? That would be very interesting to see and a great end to a great season of "Big Brother 8".

By the way, I do believe "Evil" Dick will be a part of the final two, no matter who's sitting next to him.

Growing up as a teenager in the 1990s, the MTV Video Music Awards was one event I could not wait to see every year. So many great moments have happened during the show, like Howard Stern flying as Fartman in '92, Michael Jackson kissing Lisa Marie Presley in '94, and Chris Rock and his great celebrity-riff monologue in '99.

However, those days seem like centuries ago. Now the event, which took place last night, is a disjointed, detached mash-up of music. It was not a bad idea for the show to move to Las Vegas and into the Palms Hotel. The problem with the producers showing artists at various parties in various hotel rooms performing and enjoying themselves: how about letting us in on the fun, huh? Plus, considering I'm pretty much knowledgeable of today's music, I found myself clueless as to some of the artists who actually performed on the show - no graphic or indication as to who I was watching.

So, here was a checklist I had in my mind leading up to the anticipated Britney Spears' performance:

  • Britney will lip-sync the entire song. (Did she? Yes, of course!)
  • Britney's new song is another bad song. (What else is new?)
  • Britney will look racy. (Yup - check that!)

Considering that if there ever was an artist to need a comeback right now, it would be Britney, you'd think she would come to life at this show. I've seen her dance her butt off many a time, at various events on TV. But the thing that surprised me is how disinterested and lethargic Britney performed. She didn't dance - she looked as if she were just walking back and forth on stage, with hardly a smile on her face. Shame.

And, although I respect Timbaland as an artist and producer, and he has been around for at least the past 10-15 years, working with artists like Missy Elliott and Justin Timberlake, did I have to see him every 10 seconds on the show? From accepting an award that was really meant for Justin Timberlake, to going to a VIP room rapping, to deejaying another performance, you'd think he's the only one thing going on in the music scene right now.

Perhaps this may be why audiences are avoiding the show in increasing droves year-to-year - we do listen to music but other various types of music are never featured on the show; there's little connection here. I mean, I'm somewhat familiar with Fall Out Boy, Gym Class Heroes, and Panic! At the Disco but how many of you even know, by just reading these names, that these were even bands? (yes, they are bands!)

Also, look at the state of MTV - the "M" part of that acronym is supposed to stand for "music" but "music" is hardly even featured on the channel anymore, as Justin Timberlake mentioned last night.

To be fair, I could say the same thing about VH1 and even MTV2, which are featuring drastically less music-type programming compared to years ago. However, MTV, the original network for music videos, is now basically a reality TV show network. I understand that this type of programming attracts more viewers than just playing videos, but the network loses the relevance and interest level in any of the videos they want to feature and honor at this annual event. A medium that a video awards show might be more fitting would be via YouTube or Yahoo's Launch music website because each of their entire purposes is videos.

Just think - all of the videos nominated for this year's awards air daily but only in the wee to early hours in the morning. If you want to see them at anytime, you'd have to go to higher digital tier music networks like MTV Hits, Tube or Fuse and how many of you have these channels or even know these channels existed? Not even entire videos are featured on the weekday afternoon "video" countdown, TRL (Total Request Live). So, it's no surprise that there's little-to-no knowledge of the videos and artists nominated.

You don't have to look that far into the past to reminisce the "glory days" of the VMAs - 2002's tribute to New York City (which garnered a still-record audience of 11.9 million viewers) and in 2003, there was the famous Britney-Madonna-Christina Aguilera kissing trio. So with these recent happenings, you'd have to think that MTV would know how to put on a great show but the adjective "great" to the once-great awards show just cannot be used anymore. I'll take "mediocre-to-good" for now.

Douglasthat Donato/Soprano picture is all kinds of Sweet Chicken-Booyah awesome! If you made it yourself congrats!

I really do hope the Donatos pull off the veto.
Zach is a very creepy man and Jameka I like but basically they are floaters who sat back while the House warred with Jen and let other do the dirty work...neither deserve to win...the Donatos played the best game in many a season.

If CBS is smart they must know how wildly popular the Donatos are and will cast them in the next available AMAZING RACE after the one that is due to reappear at some point. The president is there with Alison. Those who love the Donatos would tune in to see them win and those that hate them would tune into TAR to see them loose! CBS would be in win win situation ratings wise!

We can always safely assume that Travis will post these #'s whenever he has them--as long as he has the time to do so.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't thank him when he does. It's not like he's getting paid or anything.

Wink

Why is football so far down out of the gate? I'm especially surprised about the erosion of the Thursday game. Indy and New Orleans may be relatively small markets, but I'd think there would be a ton of national interest there.

Zach could have still gotten rid of one of the Donatos if he would have put up Jameka and one of the D's. The Veto winner has all the power anyway. Nominations don't mean a thing in F4. I think they were most angry about his speech and not his nomination choices. IMO

That was a pretty good review. I was also very disappointed and turned the channel by 9:30. The whole different parties thing was an AWFUL idea and it made the performances look even more awful. Why not just have a regular host and main stage. Jimmy Fallon was a great host a few years back. I like Justin Timberlake's comments about the video thing. Shame on MTV for never playing the videos. MTV really has nothing to do with music anymore. As for Britney's performance, here's what I thought:

  • Britney will lip-sync the entire song. (Did she? Yes, but she seemed to not even know the words to her own song.)
  • Britney's new song is another bad song. (It's ok, but nothing out of this world)
  • Britney will look racy. (Well I put her in the racy catergory 4 years ago, now she's in the trampy, white trash catergory.)

Overall she should of practiced more. Where was all the Chris Angle stuff??? She didn't dance. She didn't even enjoy herself. Not performing like that in a while is no excuse. If someone is going to do a huge show like that then that person needs to practice non stop to make it look like nothing has changed. If she is not willing to put in the time and practice and properly prepare then show should of canceled the show. She had plenty of time to practice, she just used it to party instead. And her body showed it.

Maybe MTV should just end the VMA's. They're a waste of time now and I sure don't want to waste my night watching a lousy show.
