NCIS: Los Angeles - 17.399 million viewers - 10.6/16 HH - 4.1/11 A18-49 *for those who watch... why aren't so many NCIS viewers sticking around for the spin-off? Is it a DWTS effect?*
I would think those are good numbers and demo for NCIS: Los Angeles, aren't they?
Certainly, they are. And there's more competition at 9pm than 8pm (especially for 50+ers because of DWTS, and The Biggest Loser's second hour is always much stronger than its first). But The Mentalist had relatively the same competition last season as NCIS: Los Angeles is facing now... and had better (near-perfect) retention. So, I pose the question.
Yes, TM did - but NCIS' numbers were also lower, viewership and demo. IIRC, not once did it break 4.0 demo (I could be mistaken there, that I admit), so yes, it doesn't hold as much retention but faced with a similar competition it does better. I'm not sure if that's good or bad - the show certainly is great - I just hope that it'll hold these numbers.
The retention between NCIS and NCIS LA is pretty good and I don't think it could retain all the viewerships because naturally some fans of the orginal aren't going to stick around for the spin-off.
I also think DWTS could be a reason too when you consider that from Shark Tank 5.3m it goes up by 7m so it is bound to lose a few viewers to it. I think it is safe for a full season and they have time to iron out any kinks and develop the characters. The show has potential and I think people are making unfair comparison to an established show like NCIS.
Yeah I think that NCIS:LA still has a lot to do to develop the characters and the plot lines more. The show is okay but could definitely use improvement
I am hooked to The Good Wife...whoever said that it would flop was terribly mistaken
It is amazing that it is still getting more viewers on its 7 season.

I did watch it and just don't like it so I'm done with it.

Not bad, I like the show, good writing and acting.
I Really dislike procedurals but after 2 episodes am more than into 'The Good Wife'. Really cleverly written, the acting is brilliant and the premise is awesomely executed. Am a massive fan of Julianna Margulies and am glad she's got such great material and the great supporting cast on TGW.
CBS must be happy due to all the critical support and the fact that it actually grew in the 18-49 Demo (3.1/8 to 3.2/9) in comparison to the premiere.

I really liked the pilot, but this episode didn't quite do it for me. Josh Charles's character, when given more screentime and as the key litigator on the case of the week, came off more bland and cardboard than he needed to be. There was much less emphasis on Alicia (and on the comedic elements of Kalinda's character).

I agree. Episode 2 was no where near as good as episode 1 and I expect episode 3 to have some drop offs to prove it.
Now here’s some spin I can get behind: The live-plus-seven-day DVR numbers from the opening week of the TV season are in, and 90210, Melrose Place, and Vampire Diaries all saw significant gains compared to live-only viewing, with 90210 getting the biggest boost. The highlights:
* 90210 grew a considerable 73 percent in women 18-34 (1.92 vs. 3.32) and 46 percent in total viewers (1.9 million vs. 2.9 million).
* Melrose Place, which has been struggling in the ratings, gained 54 percent in women 18-34 (2.12 vs. 3.26) and 43 percent in total viewers (2 million vs. 2.8 million).
* Freshman hit Vampire Diaries soared 64 percent in women 18-34 (2.33 vs. 3.83) and 40 percent in total viewers (4.0 million vs. 5.7 million).
* Supernatural grew 35 percent in women 18-34 (1.5 vs. 2.0) and 38 percent (2.9 million vs. 4 million) in total viewers.
Data for Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, and Smallville should start trickling in next week.
Those are AMAZING numbers for NCIS. This is becoming the next CSI, and this is what, season 8 for the show? Completely amazing. I still can't get over it. Seems most of its new viewers are in the 18-49 demo, too. And while the LA numbers look good, it isn't holding onto the NCIS audience as well as The Mentalist once did. IMO, if The Mentalist doesn't pick up this Thursdays, CBS needs to consider swapping NCIS:LA and The Mentalist immediately, because TM can do much better in its old slot.
Also good for The Good Wife. It isnt as older skewing as I thought it would be. Shark Tank was an expected disaster, and The Forgotten was definitely low, but IMO, it had better retention than Castle and does deserve more of a chance to succeed. It really would be perfect for CBS, and it would be completely compatible with Cold Case on Sundays, if Three Rivers were to bomb big.
Biggest Loser was back up, and Tuesdays are turning out to be Leno's best night, although the ratings probably should be slightly better. The show was great last night - Julia Louis-Dreyfus was one of the best guests so far. She was hysterical! Hell's Kitchen also did well in the demo once again, and Dance is just getting pulverized by the competition.
COMCAST IN TALKS TO BUY NBC-UNIVERSAL FROM GENERAL ELECTRONICS
quote:
Comcast, the nation’s leading provider of cable, entertainment and communications products and services, is in talks to buy the entertainment giant NBC-Universal from General Electric, according to a knowledgeable individual.
Deal points were hammered out at a meeting among bankers for both sides in New York on Tuesday, executives familiar with the meeting said.
Two individuals informed about the meeting said that a deal had already been completed at a purchase price of $35 billion.
A spokeswoman for NBC-Universal had no comment. A spokeswoman for Comcast also had no comment.
NBC-Universal has been believed to be in play for months, although GE has publicly denied any intention of selling the unit. In recent weeks, minority stakeholder Vivendi has been apparently preparing to exercise its right to sell 20 percent of the entertainment company in an IPO.
Comcast has been among those rumored to be interested in buying that equity.
