The CW can't cancel Melrose and that's a problem for them. They have too much invested in it and they want to make it work, they are in love with Heather coming back and image how bad Dawn and CW execs look if 2 of there 3 new shows were cancelled already. I predict they will be sticking this show out as long as they can.

Huh? Eliminations are almost always lowered rated for Dancing than the performances. I'm not too worried about it at this point. In other news, Shark Tank did lots better than I expected it to. I think it lasts til sweeps if it holds.

I don't know, those numbers for DWTS are quite concerning. And considering it usually spikes during the elimination portion and we didn't really see that this week suggests people don't really care. I do agree though that as the season goes on and the better dancers remain that interest will tend to go back up.

I am not to worried about the lower the usual numbers for dancing. Dancing tends to perk up as the season goes on. When you have a lot of dead weight dancers in the beginning people, myself included, tend to be bored until they all get voted off and the best remain. abc take note, for the next cycle please dont bombard us with tons of couples making it feel like it is never going to end.

Per the Forgotten:
This is very Without a Trace or Cold Case-ish. Nothing overly original here which makes it no surprise it comes from Bruckheimer. That said, I think the fans of his shows would like this. It even throws in some of that fake forensic crap that a group like this would never actually have access too. CBS should consider a pickup for when Three Rivers bombs this weekend.

You could be right.

But with the mounting financial problems of CBS, its parent network, CW can't keep running up huge deficits indefinitely. The money just isn't there to keep them afloat for years and years, until they somehow get it right--if they ever do.

Sooner or later, corporate America has to come to terms with the fact that you can't turn failure into success by lowering the standards that constitute success.

CW is a failure, and has been from the moment it came on the air.

Nothing can change that.

This show sounds very interesting.

The plot best recalls NBC's struggle to adapt the UK series "Coupling," before the network successfully launched its own version of British favorite "The Office."

Showtime has ordered six half-hours of the single-camera comedy, which is a co-production between the network and BBC Two and will air sometime next year.

"What a thrill to have two giants of the comedy world like Klarik and Crane to satirize what they know best: the making (or un-making) of art," said Showtime entertainment president Robert Greenblatt. "We jumped at the chance to get involved with this cock-eyed look at network television told through the eyes of unsuspecting British producers who don't know what hit them when they enter the lion's den of Hollywood."

"Jeffrey and David have a great idea -- I love it," said Matt LeBlanc. "I am really excited to be working with Showtime and the BBC. And I am so glad I got the part, seeing someone else play Matt LeBlanc would have been devastating."

I agree. DWTS is here for a while. However, they have to find some way to make it younger skewing. Especially since it takes so much of their schedule.

Leno was pretty funny last night -- Julia Louis-Dreyfuss was on.

But honestly, there's no difference between "Prime Time Jay" and "Late Night Jay" -- except Late Night Jay was #1! Smiler

True, it does lose a lot of it's lead-in but Hut Levels are lower at 10pm then they are at 9pm.

Currently The Good Wife places 4th strongest demo show at the 10pm hour

CSI:MIAMI (Low 4s) lead-in is high 4s/low 5s
CSI:NY (High 3s/low 4s) lead-in is only slightly higher
The Mentalist (Mid 3s so far) lead-in is around 4
The Good Wife (low 3s) lead-in is around 4

ABC's strongest show is Brothers & Sisters (around 3, so far) lead-in was high 4s

The Good Wife seems right in line with the rest doesn't it?

No one as far as I know, but I still think its a one and done. There is no long term potential for nursing home skewing fare in today's TV climate. That demo isn't bad, yet its losing a huge chunk of its lead in.

So I guess those predictions of The Good Wife as an early casualty were wrong. If it maintains the demo in the next few weeks, it should get a full season pickup.

Ouch, Melrose is doomed. The only good note is the retention on demo out of 90210: 1.1 to 0.8. Hows it doing on the W18-34?

Oh, and kudos to Gossip Girl, despite crap ratings, it was able to manage 3.1 on W18-34 last night!

The bleeding for Melrose Place has stopped. That is a good thing.

I can't get over how well NCIS is doing this season. What is the cause of this sudden ratings bump in its 7th season?! Do you think it has something to do with the reality/talk show overload on this night, making it one of the few scripted choices?

I think there are several factors in addition to the scheduling you noted.

1. Mark Harmon. One of the most appealing actors on TV.

2. Team chemistry. It's a happy accident that this group of actors just work extremely well together.

2a. It's a really good-looking cast.

3. It's a procedural where everyone does the proper job. In other words, the forensic scientists aren't questioning suspects; the field agents do that.

4. Family-friendly. I see comments on the boards about NCIS being a show parents feel comfortable watching with their (older) children.

5. The constant reruns. I can't count how many people have said they discounted the show until they actually caught old episodes in reruns. I guess NCIS is a show that's more than the sum of its parts.

I can see that. What I can't see is how it is so strong with the name. Naval Criminal? Do they expand off of the Naval theme? Seems like there wouldn't be that many exciting opportunities or storylines just sticking with the Naval entity - but I guess I'm wrong and 20 million are right. Didn't JAG go on for years? Big Grin
