Back to You is I think my favorite sitcom currently, along with How I Met Your Mother. The ratings will only get stronger, as the show gets more publicity and better treatment from Fox.

That's laughable. It is called competition. BBT is up against DWTS, Bones, DOND and GG. What is BTY up against ? BB, Wife Swap and DOND. Lets' see the show switch time slots for a couple of weeks and see which one gets higher ratings. Mondays at 8:00 has become the most competitive time slot on TV now, and BBT and HIMYM both come in second in the demo every week. Do you think BTY could do that against that kind of competition, and don't forget BTY is on at 8:30 while BBT is on at 8:00. Get real.

You still don't persuade me that Back to You isn't worthy of renewal. It may be that Big Bang Theory has tough competition, but let's be honest, Big Bang Theory has had more publicity, IMO. Also, Big Bang Theory didn't debut in the 8pm slot where Back to You was forced to.

Don't like my example? Fine, take this: Why is Simpsons or King of the Hill more worthy of renewal when they skew SMALLER numbers than Back to You, with about equal competition?

And please, don't tell me to "get real." Roll Eyes

I think BTY deserves renewal, and will get it. I never said it wasn't. I just think you are not taking into account the level of competition. You do have to admit that the Monday 8:00 hour is much more competitive than Wednesday at 8:30.

I really can't comment much on the Simpsons or King of The Hill. I don't watch them or follow them.

Wow, I 100% agree that BBT/HIMYM time slot is about 4X as competitive as BTY's. But come on.

Monday at 8 is the most competitive time slot?

You must be joking. It has been (and will continue to be for years) Thursday at 9. The best of the best air in this hour, and if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere. CSI, Grey's, The Office. Clash of the titans. 'Nuff said.

Beats me, Marc. I wonder if that tatooed arm has just turned off "America." But no matter. Carly's next CD is certain to sell > 300 copies! And you'll be seeing Syesha on Broadway in a couple of years.

Oh, and by the way: I didn't get a chance to e-mail you about today's Triva, so here goes. Wo Fat appeared on Hawaii 5-0, if I remember correctly. (Which I probably don't.)

Okay, fair point. I forgot about that one. Let's say it is one of the most competitive. DWTS, Bones, DOND, BBT/HIYM, GG. Which is the soft spot there ?

For much of the last couple of years, Monday at 9pm was the most competitive timeslot. DwtS, 2&1/2Men, 24, Heroes, and Girlfriends. The slot eased up this season with FOX offering up K-Ville instead of 24. I agree that the Thursday 9pm half hour was out front this season. last year, NBC didn't usually have The Office there, though.

The Simpsons for syndication and marketing. It's still a hugely profitable show for Fox, even if ratings are diminished. As for KoTH, I really don't know why it keeps getting renewed.

To clarify, I have no opinion on BTY. Never seen it, never want to.

King of the Hill has syndication value too. the thing I'm unsure about is if they are actually having to make new episodes. For awhile, that show got WAY ahead on episodes in the can vs. episodes that aired. They were stock piling like DoND did.

Regardless, I think it's time to end Simpsons, and King of the Hill while we're at it. Simpsons does do well in syndication, but it has what, 400 episodes? I think it will be fine.

I guess we are waiting on Fox to find a new animation hour that can replace the two shows. I mean, who here would believe Simpsons used to get 22 million viewers, and now, only 6?

The Simpsons is what is called a cash cow. You don't get rid of cash cows until they stop being profitable (okay, technically until their market share is relatively low... and there are plenty of shows on TV in general and on Fox in particular with worse ratings than The Simpsons) and become dogs. And with The Simpsons' massive merchandising, syndication, and international value... that's not going to happen any time soon.

For once I agree with you Jason. Back to You is getting nice ratings at 8:30. It should be a shoe in for renewal.

Here are what we have available going into the May Sweeps.

The PI Feedback Challenge May Sweeps Game
An extention of the PI Feedback Challenge game. For the may Sweeps, there is a new twist. Each day you can best up to 20 Berman Bucks, based on what you think the 18-49 ratings will be for the shows you select. The winner will be the person who has the most Berman Bucks at the end of the May Sweeps.
