It's not a bad idea to move American Idol to Thursday, but in this scenario you are surrounding it with two dead shows. I think the network is going to position Standoff out of the results show unless some new drama is coming up that I am not aware of.

Tuesday
8/7c - House
9/8c - Standoff

Wednesday
8/7c - American Idol
9/8c - Bones

Thursday
8/7c - Til Death
8:30/7:30c - American Idol Results
9/8c - The OC

Friday
8/7c - air test patterns
9/8c - hell, air test patterns the whole night

This way FOX has a chance to put a dent or even win the 18-49 demo most nights.

You divide and conquer with the shows that are actually working like 24, House, and Idol. Idol results on Thursday would really help the OC(even if everyone's calling it done now). If one show can survive a move Thursday nights it is AI. Sure its only on a half hour(which if you are FOX why not go ahead and milk it for a full hour on the results show too?) but even that half hour are enough to draw more eyes to the show following it. The OC would probably hemorrhage 50% of the audience, but that would still be an improvement from the ratings so far this season. Probably not enough to save the show, but its really the only idea that could come close to doing so.

I also think they should air Bones post Idol for the performance night instead of House. House doesn't need that lead in....it does great on its own. Bones has showed promise and decent ratings in its second season, but a few more eyes couldn't hurt. From what I have seen of Standoff, it certainly doesn't deserve a post idol slot on any night. Putting it after House on a Tuesday would still give it a chance to have potential viewers, but I think the show is pretty much a lame duck.

Fox is not going to move House to Thursdays. Why do I keep reading this? They have a guaranteed mega blockbuster combo on Tuesdays with Idol pulling at least 25 million, sometimes 30, and House knocking on or exceeding 20 million after Idol. Why on Earth would some network suit want to move it?

The same reason ABC moved Grey's. They need hits on every night.

You sacrifice the additional 4 to 5 million viewers Fox gets from House when it follows Idol? Not every show benefits from being a lead out from Idol. The O.C. sure didn't. Either way, Fox needs to come up with original programming that isn't bloody AI, House, or 24.

If I were a Fox suit, I wouldn't move House. Not when it's proved itself post Idol the way it has. Just because Grey's did well on Thursday doesn't mean House would as well. Fox needs to get off its creative butt and develop some original programming. Hugh Laurie won't want to do House forever. Simon Cowell will die someday if someone doesn't kill him on principle for fouling the earth with American Idol. Someday, the AI behemoth will end. What would happen if ABC scheduled DWTS directly against Idol in the spring and Idol saw some of its numbers dwindle? If I'm not mistaken, didn't Fox pay one hellacious licensing fee for AI through the 2009 season? Something like 35 million I believe. Fox needs AI's numbers to remain huge with them paying that sort of a licensing fee.

I just can't see Fox messing with the proven AI/House combo.

Well, 35 million license fee for AI is nothing compared to their profit out of it. If ABC can charge 1.8 million $ per spot during the Acadamy Awards FOX should get at least 1 million $ per spot during American Idol. That puts their profit out of AI around 500 million $ per season.

Fox should also avoid using the lead-out time period from the AI results show on a piece of crap. Remember that reality show last year, with the idiots locked in some sort of bunker? It was unfathomable that Fox would waste this platform for a show like that. No forward thinking whatsoever.

I can believe it. No wonder Fox has such a paucity of quality original programming. It doesn't need it. American Idol pays all the bills. They're lazy. American Idol with a little House and 24 on top. Nothing else needed. As someone who can't stand what AI does to music, I would be so tickled if DWTS started eating into its numbers. Just the thought of Fox bean counters panicking brings a smile to my face.

I don't think that Fox should move House. But keep in mind that with the expected two-hour episodes of American Idol on Tuesday (and I'm sure there will be many), it will lose its home on many weeks.

Nooooooo...... Frowner Blech.

It'll probably draw 30 million viewers a pop, too. Aside from my disdain for the crud masquerading as music that comes out of AI, what bugs me more than anything about it is that I just don't get it. What is so endlessly fascinating about a fixed competition preceded by people humiliating themselves? I'll never figure it out, Mr. Berman.

Just like I dont get the fascination of watching a show with dancing stars -- which has no stars.

As for AI's effect on music, there was crappy pop tunes before AI and there will be crappy pop tunes long after. If you don't like them, change the dial on your radio. I have yet to hear an AI song coming out of mine.

Believe me, I keep that radio dial turning. Wink I'm much more of a country ballad and classic rock girl. You aren't fascinated with Tucker Carlson putting on his moves? Hee. DWTS isn't any more legitimate than Idol. It's a popularity contest. Nothing more. It would be lovely if those two shows cannibalized each others' numbers.

You could say I'm not a fan of reality television in general.

Drive and Kelly's Wedding Series are both important properties at FOX. They will be given strong lead-ins. Whether it be Idol, House, or 24. FOX would be stupid to use the lead-in on House when they can launch Drive which is almost certain to be a critic favorite with Tim Minear behind it. Plus it is suppose to cost a little bit so they want to get their money back.

Truth be known, I don't get the fascination with Idol either. I swore I would not watch last season and I got sucked right in after the auditions. For me, as I am sure with millions of others as well, I enjoy seeing the banter between the judges, particularly airhead Paula Abdul.

I haven't heard of either one of those shows. Fox had better get busy and advertise them.

Drive was my favorite script of the new series premiering this season. I caught the finished product though... let's just say it's a REALLY GOOD THING they're recasting and retooling. It just did not go from script to screen. I hope the final version is worthy of Tim's critically-adored ouevre. And I'd love to see them premiere it after Tuesday Idol then have it air AFTER 24 on Mondays (vs Heroes... but it'll have the 24 lead-in so maybe that'd help).
