That's not schmaltzy at all. I like hearing it. I've always enjoyed dramas with big families because I always wondered what that would feel like. I'm a Walton at heart!

Hey Marc,
Thanks for being here on your days off. You should be in Tahiti or Aruba or someplace else but anyplace else but here. However, it is nice to see you here on your days off.
Yes, I had a blast yesterday. Me and my siblings are a very tight knit group(just like the siblings on B&S) and I am totally involved as an Uncle with the nieces and nephews. So, it was a great experience for me. Unfortunately, I do agree about the new episodes however for me it worked out great. Hope all is well with you. Back to the ratings. Sorry for getting all schmaltzy.
I agree, Marc. The biggest problem with moving House to Thursday is that AI and 24 won't be on the schedule in the fall. House is the only proven hit Fox has in the Fall. It would be very difficult to use House to launch a new show for the at 9pm Thursdays slot..
Sorry for the digression here however I just wanted all of you General Hospital Soap fans to know that Soapnet is now showing from 7PM-12PM four episodes of the classic Luke and Laura 25 years ago episodes culminating with the wedding and Liz Taylor's curse. It's on right now guys in case you want to see how beautiful Genie Francis looked back then. And Tony Geary was handsome in his youth also. Classic soap. It was when I began to watch GH for a three year period before giving up on it when Genie Francis left and Demi Moore entered(remember that period).
BTW Marc,
ARe you an only child?? It sounds that way from the way you talk about siblings and family and stuff. I'm the middle child and I bless each day that I have an older brother and younger sister who think of me as the strong one(which I guess I am with what I've been through) and rely on me for strength and advise. It's very nice to have loving siblings and family. However, now you have us here Marc. Boy Thanksgiving makes me sentimental and schmaltzy--however like you said "I love schmaltz" also.
Until Fox can develop another good show worthy of the post-Idol time slot, why not just leave House there. Give House another season (spring) to grow into a mega-hit and then maybe consider moving it next season. Fox keeps throwing these crummy comedies (Til' Death, Happy Hour) and games shows (Unanimous, Rich List) out there that no one watches, they will just be wasting the time slot. Fox has not put anything new out there that can stand on its own this season, so just leave House there.
BTW, the 7.65 mil for "Spider-Man 2" was about as good or better than all of Fox's fall shows(except House).

Hawk-Eye:
We all know how important Thursday night is for the movie studios - and how big Thursday numbers are real key for a network.
Fox needs to get back into the game there. I think Fox needs to use the post American Idol slot to develop programming.
With Fox way in the hole 18-49 without AI, they need to develop some shows this year.
It won't happen, but they should've put Justice on after AI. They may want to try "Drive" when it's ready in the Spring.
I think Thursday 8pm is filled with overachievers right now. "Survivor" is tired, the NBC comedies are way overrated, and "Betty" is winning the females (Maybe Marc can reference the male/female breakdown on Survivor and the NBC comedies - but I guess they skew male).
I don't even think about too many medical shows. Good shows are good shows.

Originally posted by scriptgirl: Ugly Betty aired a pretty good Thanksgiving episode... last week! I, like hopefully many other people, assumed last night's episode would be a repeat. Or maybe they should have aired the Thanksgiving episode on Thanksgiving!
Meanwhile, this episode felt like the pre-Christmas episode, with two cliffhangers and the Christmas tree decorating. Odd...
I also wonder how long this series can sustain itself... logically, Betty should move to the different magazine, but that would move the storyline along too quickly.
If Fox really wanted to make an impact on their schedule they could do the following come january.
Monday 8/7c - Prison Break 9/8c - 24
Tuesday 8/7c - House 9/8c - Standoff
Wednesday 8/7c - American Idol 9/8c - Bones
Thursday 8/7c - Til Death 8:30/7:30c - American Idol Results 9/8c - The OC
Friday 8/7c - air test patterns 9/8c - hell, air test patterns the whole night
This way FOX has a chance to put a dent or even win the 18-49 demo most nights.
You divide and conquer with the shows that are actually working like 24, House, and Idol. Idol results on Thursday would really help the OC(even if everyone's calling it done now). If one show can survive a move Thursday nights it is AI. Sure its only on a half hour(which if you are FOX why not go ahead and milk it for a full hour on the results show too?) but even that half hour are enough to draw more eyes to the show following it. The OC would probably hemorrhage 50% of the audience, but that would still be an improvement from the ratings so far this season. Probably not enough to save the show, but its really the only idea that could come close to doing so.
I also think they should air Bones post Idol for the performance night instead of House. House doesn't need that lead in....it does great on its own. Bones has showed promise and decent ratings in its second season, but a few more eyes couldn't hurt. From what I have seen of Standoff, it certainly doesn't deserve a post idol slot on any night. Putting it after House on a Tuesday would still give it a chance to have potential viewers, but I think the show is pretty much a lame duck.
2 weeks ago betty lost to earl/office in the demos...im thinking this is gonna be the beginning of a pattern...imo, betty will begin to slide starting this week...abc's only repeats for a month on this show will only hurt it...
betty has been dropping every week since its debut...only when survivors clip show was on did it grow...
im guessing/hoping betty loses its legs...i dont hate it i just love survivor and im tired of ppl saying its tired when the show is still top 15 in the demos...

I hear you on that. I haven't watched UB before, it just seems too campy and over the top for my liking. If it was a little more subtle I may be interested, but you just know that somewhere along the lines there will be a change in store for Betty into an attractive girl.
As for Survivor, do you think that if they went to just airing one season a year that the ratings would improve? I think that having a fall and spring rotation of seasons is too much and the public loses interest because its no longer a novel concept as it was back in the days of the first two seasons. Simon Cowell almost demanded that Idol was left as just a once a year show so people wouldn't get tired of it. So far that's worked out pretty well, and Survivor's ratings seem to go down a bit each successive season.
Personally, I don't think that FOX's problem is the scheduling. They only have 7 high-quality shows: House, 24, Bones, Prison Break and 3 of the Sunday comedies (definitely not The War at Home...). What would have happened if FOX had launched Heroes and Ugly Betty this fall... . Well, their new show Drive might be their Lost...we will see.
Betty is just fine and a great show. As far as the ratings, DOND and Survivor are probably just easier to watch on Thanksgiving with a bunch of people and a lot of noise in the house. Let's be honest, you don't really need to pay attention to either whereas Betty is a show that has great writing and a story to follow and more diificult to follow with noise, confusion, etc! Betty also probably has more closet viewers that would never admit to watching it in a group setting!!.
