Ditto, ditto, ditto. It's still tops in the demo, but losing 1/5th of your entire demographic audience? That should be setting off alarm bells at FOX. And if the other networks are smart, they're smelling blood.
They should definately be agressive next year. And because of that, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw double digit declines in the demo again next year. (even so, it will be the number one show, however)
It's one thing to think your opponent is vulnerable, it is quite another to figure out a way to deliver an effective attack. With what should the other nets go after AI? Maybe throw in DWTS against with that whopping 3.9 demo. Maybe ABC should abandon it's Thursday line-up and throw in Greys, just because. Or, maybe CBS could do the same with CSI. How about dumont's MNTV, I'm sure they could put a hurting on AI next year. I know maybe NBC can ask the NFL to move the Superbowl next season so as to take on Idol.
Any better ideas ... I'm sure net execs are waiting.

If they held a Superbowl every week, how long do you think it would take fans to figure out they weren't watching something equivalent to the 'Superbowl'?
Side note: Looking at the Pittsburgh Steelers' schedule, it sort of looks like a Superbowl every week for them.

lol, wow, yeah those are all terrible ideas, and i see your point (especially with DWTS, that would do nothing).
I would definately not suggest moving giant hits that are known for airing on other nights (grey's, csi), but i think there are some middling hits that could be rearranged.
At the very least, the nets should stop talking about "moving shows out of Idol's way." They also should stop simply counterprogramming. Don't be afraid to put a solid show here, even if it competes for the same audience as Idol. It's come time to attack idol head-on instead of from the side, with counter programming alone.
Actually, what if NBC was to shake up it's Monday scheduling, and move Heroes (oooh, I know i'm gonna get it now) to Tuesday at 9. Let's face it, Heroes will only get smaller as time goes on. It's not a giant hit, but it's still so fresh. NBC should use it to it's biggest advantage while it still can. It skews so young, that it could really dig into those demo numbers (which fox loves).
Or even leaving Heroes where it's at, why not move Chuck? Actually, I think Chuck would be a good show at 9pm either Tue OR Wed.
The Biggest Loser Chuck SVU
or
Knight Rider Chuck Lipstick
I think Chuck would actually hold a lot of it's audience against Idol, and it's also fresh. This is a show that might build in season 2 if given a higher profile time slot. However, after that i think it's just slow audience erosion over time, so let it take some of that demo while it's still strong.
As for the other nets, they havn't even released thier schedules, so speculation is REALLY pointless on what they could do to combat Idol.

NBC has already scheduled SVU in it's usual 10 spot away from Idol, so...
I'm sure FOX is shaking in it's collective boots at the prospect of ANTM. And, with respect, outside of SVU (which it would be silly to switch) none of the shows above are likely to to better than TBL.

The Steeler Excuses have already started and we have not yet even had the Draft.
When you have five rings and one of the best records in the league over the last ten years, you don't need many excuses.
I certainly wasn't making an excuse. I was just pointing out the 'Superbowliness' of their schedule. They play against 8 of the 11 teams that made the playoff last season and 2 other games against a 10-6 team that didn't make the playoffs. As it stands, the networks like Pittsburgh's game schedule so much that they already have 5 primetime TV games in place.

Debate's numbers show the overnights are hardly indicative. But still 10 million is not bad
CSI NY is not up against AI. Criminal Minds is. CM is a perfect performer against such competition. Also CM has a very very poor lead-in. I will say CM is the best of those 2 in the ratings

CM had good numbers last night. I thought last night's episode was good too.
I checked out Under One Roof, and I was a bit disappointed. It seemed like they were trying a bit too hard. However, I will tune in next week. Can't wait to see the numbers!
So was it a poor man's version of Fresh Prince?
