I wonder how much real damage that Sonjiya (whatever) did least year. He may have perminately scared off viewers

Maybe ratings for AI are down this year because this season features a bunch of people with actual singing backgrounds instead of embarrassingly bad singers like Sanjya (I don't know how to spell it either)? AI always does really well with their initial casting and 'blooper' shows early in the season as well. Meanwhile, the Idol gives back episode with all the professionals did poorly in the ratings. The pattern would suggest that people don't want to watch good singers.

From Variety.com:
Fox dominated the night's middle hour with "American Idol" (8.5/21 in 18-49, 22.7 million viewers overall), although the megahit's downtrend continues: It was off more than 20% in the demo vs. the same night a year ago while drawing its smallest regular Wednesday audience in two years

ANTM suffers from the judges fragile egos. They are scared of beautiful women, Tyra seemingly threatened by them. Last year she even said, to Heather, 'you are the best picture taker,' only to hurl her off that day. Heather was the fan's fave by a mile, but they heaved her. That's just stupid. As to this years crop, well, I live in NYC, and a two block walk yields more talent. Some of the girls are actually ugly if you ask me. Marvita? Huh?

Since you are the one complaining about the slowness problems, it would be your internet connection in doubt. I was just pointing out the rather obvious effect of adding dozens of little pictures to a text message board.

I think there is always a dip in the ratings once they start eliminating from the final 12, but to be that much off from last year is worth discussing.

AI is still the KING of TV, but it may beginning to show its age.

Most of the Icons I have made are usually no more than 5-6 KB.

My entire signature is less than a 1/2 of a MB. If the PIF can't handle that, then they must be running the Bedrock 3 Slate Co. servers. Big Grin

The singers are not better this year, most of them are boring and forgettable. There is no star-in-the-making like Kelly Clarkson.

As for Idol gives back performance, it is probably over-exposure. 5 hours of AI in the week over three nights is too much.

Since the show is not live, but filmed many weeks/months before airing, you can't call the judges stupid for booting the fan favorite. the judges have no way to know who the 'fan favorite' is when they do the judging. If anyone is to blame, it would be the editors, since they did far too good a job of portaying Heather as the loveable underdog and not a good enough time explaining to the audience why she had to be booted (though, to be fair, it was REALLY obvious why she had to be booted: she was completely unmarketable to people actually in the fashion indistry).

Isn't this site owned by Nielsen, the same people that routinely run behind in the number crunching of their multi-million dollar business data? Maybe we can blame the graphics on slowing down their whole computer system, including release of the ratings data?

You can make 'Bedrock' jokes, but think about it: Nielsen is collecting millions of dollars for 'instant' data that they still collect in diaries in some cases. It takes them about 3 weeks to release the '+7' data. I picture a room full of hunched back old men working abacuses. Wink

CSI NY and CM - best demos since strike at 3.7 and 3.5

These are the kind of #'s you would expect out of NY particularly with the hour weak

As far as CM's TA of 12.85mm I didn't expect more than 13.5mm for the spring

Debate - a few of the watchers predicted early ratings falloff but there was only a marginal drop at 9pm probably due to planned shifts

I bet DVRs account for about 10% of that, with age accounting for the other 10%. Its time for the nets to start going after Idol if they really want to beat it.
