well ABC definitely needs a breakout comedy but right now I can't see any other show they have performing well in that slot. Though with NBC weak and survivor continuing to lose a million or so viewers each edition, there is room there for another show to succeed

Bones, oh, poor Bones. The next several weeks are going to be hard on its ratings, with the crazy lack of consistent scheduling. It won't win the 8pm hour when Survivor comes back (though it was down compared to what it was doing on Wednesdays)... but when was the last time Fox was number two in that hour with regular programming? And Fox should really try and avoid airing it in the 9pm hour ever again.
Will Grey's remain at this level when it returns in two weeks for the start of its crossover? Or was this uptick due to the end of its three part serial killer arc? Or due to CSI's lower numbers (than last week, at least... it remains to be seen whether there's a permanent dip with Grissom gone)?
Steve McPherson said ABC is going to look like a whole different network next year so upfronts will be very interesting this year.
Steve knows UB is dying so a comedy block there would be perfect. Steve is also going back to multi-cams with real life like characters like Roseanne.
I haven't watched GA in over a month and wished I could've seen that serial killer s/l.
I'm going to talk up a show that I was rapping last year, predicting its decline to the dismay of ABC'ers here, and one which the critics have seemingly lost interest in.......
PRIVATE PRACTICE has turned into a very good watch. Last night's ep was superb. Without being melodramatic or overly serious, this show is taking on interesting medical issues and the characters are taking shape.
Amy Brenneman is turning in an outstanding performance.

Travis, could you please post the data for Bones since Marc forgot?
Also, how do you think CBS will be affected by the Billboard laws/litigation going on in California? (I ask because you are always talking about billboards).
Bones (8pm) - 9.973 million viewers - 2.9/8 A18-49
Bones (9pm) - 7.521 million viewers - 2.5/6 A18-49
I only talk about billboards as a (very in my face as a LA resident) reflection of the networks' traditional print ad campaign I haven't really looked into the new law being proposed, but while it would affect CBS's revenue in its "Outdoor" division, I'm not sure how else it would really specifically the company (since it's not like CBS billboards only have CBS advertisements).
NBC should move 30 Rock. They are just wasting that timeslot. There's no synergy between it and The Office, the way there is between Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother.
Try 30 Rock on another night, and see what happens. If nothing good happens, give it one more season (to appease the critics), then dump it.
True but I tend to think CSI's best days are behind it and the Mentalist represents the future. I believe next season it will be the most watched scripted show on TV

So has CSI 'on average'...and CSI actually pulls in some decent demos as well.
it was doing fine in the fall with the big guest stars and when Tina fey was everywhere. now it seems to have sunk back to where it was last season (even last night was one of the funnier episodes). I dont think it would perform better in another slot

Thanks Travis. I agree with you about FOX keeping Bones in the 8pm slot (no more 9pm).

that is what I was wondering about (CBS being hurt as a company). California could end up setting a precedent for the rest of the country as well; outlawing most digital billboards before they take over the world.
Bones as predicted with 10 million viewers at 8pm and a solid demo number dominated the rest of the competition.
I think the program that has to worry here is Survivor b/c they could very well be going down to 10-11 million viewers on average.

I think you're definitely right tvchtw, The Mentalist is their future and its start reminds me a lot of when CSI: started off back in 2000 before it had the huge ratings and big buzz.

I tuned in to NBC last night just in time to see Palin Fey in her bra. The show simply isn't funny. Hopefully, the new Amy poeler sitcom will be a step up and it can be slotted in after The Office. 30 Rock can then be demoted to the post-Earl spot.
