So Til Death was renewed while B2Y wasn't and cost was the determining factor.

Just as I thought. Back To You was just too expensive to make.

May 10, 2008, 12:14 AM Here it is -- the first series pickup this upfront season.
Fox on Friday night ordered the comedy "The Inn."
The network also renewed sitcom " 'Til Death," while, in a somewhat surprising move, it opted not to bring back comedy "Back to You" for a second season.
"The Inn," from 20th TV, stars Niecy Nash and Jerry O'Connell and is described as "Upstairs/Downstairs" set at a hip New York hotel.
Sophomore " 'Til Death" and freshman "Back to You" -- both multicamera sitcoms -- have run in a block to OK but not spectacular ratings. However, "Back to You" is far more expensive as it boasts marquee talent in front and behind the camera with Kelsey Grammer, Patrica Heaton and creator Christopher Lloyd.
ABC and NBC- get your sorry asses together and go after Back to You already. For the alphabet this would be a wonderful product to place behind Dancing on Tuesdays and into another new comedy.

Creatively, Til Death is stronger but I've really grown to love Back to You also. Does anyone know what production company produces Back to You?

With this logic, nothing should ever be canceled or moved. A show getting horrible ratings just means it is a good "night warmer", and the network "apparntly has nothing better to put on".

Twentieth Television is the production entity behind Back To You.

I'm actually quite shocked thatb B2Y was canceled. I never watched the show but it was doing OK. And i don't think FOX is in bankruptcy, they've could've afford paying a little extra for the show.

Weren't you calling the ABC scheduling guys chimps for picking up Scrubs? B2Y was getting worse numbers than Scrubs (especially in the demo), why would ABC try to pick it up?

B2Y has real star power and the main problem with it all along is that it didn't fit the Fox comedy image we've grown to know (Married with Children, Malcolm in the Middle, That 70s show, etc). I think on a net like ABC or NBC where more traditional humor has worked before, B2Y would work well. Certainly better than any of their single camera comedies have and that's why I think Scrubs will fail miserably unless put directly behind Dancing or some other hit (and since there's only 18 eps on the way, it doesn't deserve that slot).

I'm liking it, but it has moved rather sharply from an action and adventure series to more of an "intrigue" series. There was always this latter element but now it has taken over the show. I could see where early viewers of the show find it increasingly difficult to recognize. I actually thought the show was getting bogged down by year 3 and find the changes refreshing. But I also knew this approach ran the risk of narrowing the audience. quote: Originally posted by Marc Berman: I still enjoy Lost, but I agree that this is not the best season. They have thrown too many new characters into the mix. quote: Originally posted by metal: quote: Originally posted by Holly: quote: Originally posted by Mredman: quote: Originally posted by Holly: Looking at The Futon Critic I noticed that Lost dropped significantly in viewers and the demo at the 1/2 hour (about 14% in each). Is that normal? because of Grey's run-over? Bad episode?
Greys and Lost viewers are completely different viewers. By the way LOST is amazing right now. Hands down best show on network TV
How does that answer the question of why it dropped at 9:30? (I'm not really looking for an answer anymore, but your response pretty much ignored the question.)
Personally I thought last night's episode was awful boring! I had to make myself keep watching. Lost is losing me and I'm sick of them throwing questions behind questions, and no answers. There's no connection with the characters anymore, the drama is lacking, there's major focus on characters and stuff I don't care about, I don't understand 70% of what's going on, I hate this Claire thing and the supernatural aspect of the show, i'm sick of the mind games and dialogue written in riddles... I could go on and on. It's frustrating to watch this show now. In my opinion this season is completelly overrated! And it's sad cause I was a HUGE fan of this show, and I wanna love it till the end, so bad, but I'm reaching my point. The focus just isn't in the relationships anymore, it's in this mistery that's going nowhere! It's SO not the best show on tv! I understand why the ratings are down. It has changed to much and too many pointless characters that we don't understand or care about, have been introduced. It's not entertaining to watch, and on top of that it has been SO depressing. No joy, no jokes, no lighthearted moments, just a puzzle where it's impossible to fit all the pieces cause some of them are long LOST. Uff, I was going to make a small post, but I guess I had a lot on my chest! I feel better now!

I am just happy to see 'Til Death back. I'm a big fan of Brad Garrett's and think it has found its niche this season. quote: Originally posted by robert: I'm actually quite shocked thatb B2Y was canceled. Some info on FOX's upcoming show "Fringe". What's it all about? The show follows Olivia Warren, a "tough, young FBI agent who is forced to confront the spread of unexplained phenomena" with the help of former research scientist Walter Bishop - now living in a mental institution - and his estranged son. What is Fringe? The name for a special division of Homeland Security that handles these "terrorist / paranormal events". What sort of events are we talking about here? Polar bears in jungles?*Spoilers* Well, let's look at the pilot, which begins with a scene set on a turbulence-stricken plane. One of the passengers - known, apparently, as "Troubled" - injects himself with an unknown drug, then seconds later his body begins to liquify, a process that soon spreads to the rest of the passengers and cabin crew. The plane lands safely but when our female lead shows up to investigate, there is no sign of life on board and the windows are covered with blood. And thus the intrigue is born! Is this part of some overall mythology? It wouldn't be a JJ production without some overarching plot, cleverly designed to pose an infinite number of questions and gradually send you insane. According to the man himself, there will be some self-contained episodes (the "mystery of the week") but there will be an ongoing storyline that plays out over time. It sounds a bit X-Files.Indeed it does. Abrams also lists The Twilight Zone and Ken Russell's sci-fi movie Altered States as influences. "It does the stuff my favourite TV shows and movies do, which is to combine genres that shouldn't fit together," he told Variety. "It's definitely meant to scare the hell out of you, but it's also meant to make you laugh. It pushes all the buttons of things we loved from our childhood." Who's in it?Perhaps the most recognisable name on the cast is Joshua Jackson (Pacey from Dawson's Creek) who plays the role of Peter Bishop, the genius son who has just dropped out of high school - he's now 27! -and is desperately trying to clear a gambling debt. Mad, larger-than-life scientist Walter Bishop is played by John Noble (24, Lord of the Rings) and Aussie actress Anna Torv (Mistresses) is our female lead. O k, sign me up! When and where?Filming on a very expensive, two-hour pilot has begun in Toronto. Fox has already given Abrams a 13-episode order and plans to air the series in the US from September. I can't wait for this show. I really hope it doesn't disappoint.

I can't wait either. FOX is looking like it's going to have some pretty good shows next season. Dollhouse and Fringe are the ones I can thing of off the top of my head. It's looking pretty interesting, so thanks for posting this.

My only hope is that Fringe will be more like X-Files than like Lost. I never liked SF movies or shows but i loved X-Files

Agreed. I hope JJ gives us answers faster than he does with LOST. I got confused with LOST and I watched from the beginning and dropped it this year because of no answers. I liked the X-Files' paranormal aspect, so I hope Fringe resembles that too.
