-Ratings Breakdown: Opposite a night of repeats on ABC, and delayed because of an approximate 45-minute NCAA Basketball Tournament prime time overrun, CBS moved into the Sunday winner’s circle with its combination of basketball, 60 Minutes (7:45-8:45 p.m.), The Amazing Race: All-Stars (8:45-9:45 p.m.), Cold Case (9:45-10:45 p.m.) and Without a Trace (10:45-11:45 p.m.). Since the late start makes the individual show results for CBS impossible to decipher, take a look at the individual half-hours for the Eye net:

A night of repeats on ABC finished second in adults 18-49 but third overall in total viewers, courtesy of America’s Funniest Home Videos (Viewers: #2, 8.48 million; A18-49: #2, 2.3/ 7), Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (Viewers: #2, 10.58 million; A18-49: #2, 3.8/10), Desperate Housewives (Viewers: #3, 7.36 million; A18-49: #4, 2.5/ 6) and Brothers & Sisters (Viewers: #3, 5.27 million; A18-49: #3, 1.9/ 5). NBC opened the evening with veteran Dateline at a typically depressed 6.60 million viewers (#3) and a 1.7/ 5 among adults 18-49 (#3), followed by the dismal Grease: You’re the One That I Want (Viewers: #3, 6.59 million; A18-49: #4, 1.9/ 5), a repeat of Deal or No Deal (Viewers: #2, 12.04 million; A18-49: #2, 3.6/ 9) and fading The Apprentice 6 (Viewers: #2, 7.23 million; A18-49: #2, 2.8/ 7) from 8-11 p.m. In the battle of the second-runs, worth noting for Deal or No Deal was an advantage over Desperate Housewives of 4.46 million viewers and 44 percent among adults 18-49.
Fox also had a typical Sunday, with the results as follows:
Fox 7:00 p.m. The War at Home (R) Viewers: 2.66 million (#4), A18-49: 1.0/ 3 (#4)
7:30 p.m. The War at Home Viewers: 3.50 million (#4), A18-49: 1.5/ 5 (#4)
8:00 p.m. The Simpsons (R) Viewers: 6.89 million (#3), A18-49: 3.3/ 9 (#3)
8:30 p.m. The Winner Viewers: 5.51 million (#4), A18-49: 2.7/ 7 (#3)
9:00 p.m. Family Guy (R) Viewers: 7.02 million (#3), A18-49: 3.5/ 8 (#3)
9:30 p.m. The Winner – season or series finale Viewers: 5.13 million (#4), A18-49: 2.5/ 6 (#3t)
Considering that Fox crammed six episodes of The Winner in just three weeks, the network was obviously interested in getting rid of it. And retention for The Winner at 9:30 p.m. out of the Family Guy repeat of 73 percent in total viewers and 71 percent among adults 18-49 makes it a loser.
Last, and very least, were repeats of The CW’s Pussycat Dolls: The Search for the Next Doll (Viewers: 1.66 million; A18-49: 0.7/ 2), 7th Heaven (Viewers: 1.77 million; A18-49: 0.6/ 1) and America’s Next Top Model (Viewers: 2.20 million; A18-49: 0.9/ 2).
What few people watch the CW, it must all be "old People", with just a 0.7 average through the night.
We talk about CBS being the CSI network, NBC is the DOND network and ABC is the Grey's Network, But the CW is nothing but the AMNTM/Pussycat Network. The two shows combined for 5 of the networks 13 weekly programming hours, the last 2 weeks. That's nearly 40% of the schedule for just 2 shows
Well I guess I'll repeat my statement about the Amazing Race doing good even though I thought Rob & Amber leaving would have caused less people to be interested.

Interesting that of all the CBS shows, "Amazing Race" did the worst. And they were promoting the heck out of it all weekend long during the basketball telecasts.
Interesting, too, that the promos for it kept emphasizing Rob and Amber were gone. CBS must have done some focus-grouping and discovered that viewers really, really did so NOT want to see the creeptastic duo.
It should not surprise you that Amazing Race did the worst. CBS is a very old skewing network, and the Amazing Race is more a younger skewing show.

I still think 12-13 million people for the Amazing Race is great given its recent numbers. Funny that the show jumped up 2-3 million from last week's heavily hyped episode. I guess people really did dislike Rob and Amber and now some are coming back to the show now that they are gone.

Impossible? That is a defeatist attitude!
You can still look at the half hour numbers and see a drop in viewers when Amazing Race comes on, along with a slight increase in 18-49 demo.
I have a question for you, Marc (or maybe you can ask some other Nielsen guru). Why is it that The Amazing Race has such a distinct up/down ratings pattern every other week? Since the show moved to Sunday it has looked like a zigzag almost every single week in the ratings. Do a bunch of the Nielsen families have bi-monthly church meetings on Sunday nights? Why will the show drop in the ratings next week and then go back up in the ratings the week after that? The long term pattern does not seem to really reflect the CBS sports programming overruns, the non-elimination legs of the race, or anything else.

I'd guess the reason the numbers were up is the show aired almost an hour later, when HUTs are higher. Also, its toughest competition in the time period where it aired (Desperate Housewives) was a rerun. Would be curious to see ratings next week, if there are no more basketball overruns.
But for now, this looks like a ratings anomaly rather than a referendum on Romber. ;p
I will say I loved that "60 Minutes" interview with Simon Cowell -- especially when they got together "judges" to critique his racing ability! Anderson Cooper was a great interviewer, too.

Send "60 Minutes" to Saturday night at 8pm and move the "Amazing Race" up to 7pm Sunday. Then they can run dramas from 8pm to 11pm.
I was actually glad for the overrun. I usually don't watch 60 minutes because it's a news show that only old people like (and should be on some channel that caters to old people, like that channel that run Mama's Family every night) - 60 Minutes is not hip like The Daily Show... but i digress. They had a fun little puff piece on Simon Cowell. I don't watch American Idol, even though all of the hip folks (like those in the 18 - 35 demo) like it, so I don't know why I found it of interest. Perhaps now when I'm at parties and everyone breaks into Idol chat, I don't have to excuse myself for a bathroom break.
