----------

-Ratings Breakdown:
Led by American Idol, Fox got over the Wednesday “hump” in winning fashion, with another midweek victory in total viewers and adults 18-49. ABC and CBS shared the No. 2 and 3 spots, respectively, followed by NBC and The CW.

Leadership was mixed at 8 p.m., with a repeat of Fox’s Bones first in total viewers (7.91 million) and second among adults 18-49 (2.5 rating/7 share). The time period premiere of NBC’s improvisational Thank God You’re Here won the hour among adults 18-49 (2.7/ 8), with a third-place finish in total viewers (7.17 million). For comparative purposes, take a look at Thank God You’re Here versus week-ago occupant Friday Night Lights and year-ago special Celebrity Cooking Showdown.

NBC/Wednesday 8 p.m.
4/18/07: Thank God You’re Here -Viewers: 7.17 million, A18-49: 2.7/ 8
4/11/07: Friday Night Lights – Viewers: 6.26 million, A18-49: 2.1/ 6
4/19/06: Celebrity Cooking Showdown – Viewers: 4.84 million, A18-49: 1.5/ 5

(As a reminder, any prior results are based on the final nationals).

Also in the 8 p.m. hour was CBS’ on-the-fence Jericho (Viewers: #2, 7.78 million; A18-49: #3t, 2.3/ 7), ABC sitcoms According to Jim (Viewers: #4, 6.69 million; A18-49: #3t, 2.2/ 7) and the time period-premiere of Notes From the Underbelly (Viewers: #4, 6.57 million; A18-49: #4t, 2.4/ 7), and America’s Next Top Model on The CW (Viewers: #5, 5.19 million; A18-49: #2, 2.6/ 8). Compared to its two-episode launch last Thursday out of Grey’s Anatomy (Viewers: #3, 8.34 million; A18-49: #3, 3.6/10 on April 12, based on the final nationals), Notes From the Underbelly dipped by a significant 1.77 million viewers and 33 percent among adults 18-49

First, of course, at 9 p.m. was the one-hour edition of the American Idol Results Show on Fox at a hefty 28.18 million viewers and a 10.9/27 among adults 18-49. Comparably, that built from the second half of encore lead-in Bones (Viewers: 8.92 million; A18-49: 2.9/ 8) by a whopping 19.26 million viewers and 276 percent among adults 18-49. American Idol, in fact, beat the four competing networks combined -- Criminal Minds R (CBS, Viewers: #2, 10.48 million; A18-49: #2, 2.9/ 7), Crossing Jordan (NBC, Viewers: #3, 6.85 million; A18-49: #3, 2.1/ 5), Lost R (ABC, Viewers: #4, 3.98 million; A18-49: #4t, 1.5/ 4) and Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll R (CW, Viewers: 3.07 million; A18-49: #4t, 1.5/ 4) -- by 3.80 million viewers and 36 percent among adults 18-49.

Opposite a repeat of CSI: NY, ABC’s Lost moved into the overnight winner’s circle at 10 p.m., with 11.75 million viewers and a 5.1/13 among adults 18-49. Second was the CSI: NY encore (Viewers: 11.05 million; A18-49: 3.2/ 8), followed by a repeat of NBC’s poorly scheduled Medium (Viewers: 5.96 million; A18-49: 2.0/ 5). Although Lost remains down by double-digit percentages from one year earlier, a time period victory is still enough to qualify it as a winner.

This goes to show that Idol should be on at 9:00 PM. It always does better at that time.

Those are big numbers. I wonder if there was a surge from people on the west coast already knowing that Sanjaya had left.

So, why is NBC considering bringing back FNL?

i think a lot of people tuned in knowing that the sanjaya silliness had to come to an end. Last night was kinda make or break for me. I was tired of watching the show and getting pissed that more talented singers were going home. If Chris or Kiki had gone home last night instead of Sanjayanora, I probably would not have stuck around for the rest of the season. Good riddence...

because people at the network love it, it just won a peabody, and they "haven't found the right timeslot" for it "yet"

Though I don't watch CM and CSI NY,
doesn't their ability to snag around
11mm and around 3 18-49 for reruns
put to rest recent talk that these
shows are on the slide? Particularly
with high demo perfomers like IDOL
and LOST in the picture?

i tuned into the idol results show last night... haven't done that since last season's finale... because i knew sanjaya was going home.

until people told me that, i was worried LaKisha would suffer a J.Hud-esque fate (this, the Top 7, was the week she went home). And when they made Melinda choose, George Huff style, between two groups of three, I thought people might've been punking me that Sanjaya was history!

Happy that "Thank God" did respectably. I actually think it's a great new show and I really hope it gets renewed for a second season. Glad to see it did nicely in the demo as well.

I think the show is riding so much positive press right now... and critics love it - I think it has a fair shot at getting quite a few Emmy nominations. NBC needs any recognition it can get right now... and if this and 30 Rock (which is a shoo-in for a comedy nom in my opinion) can score at the Emmy's it would position the network to be the "quality" choice and might create some momentum for these shows.

If the show is canceled, I doubt it would get as much Emmy attention.

In other words... the shows are too good to give up on in just one season - despite the puny ratings.

TGYH wins the tp in A 18-49, but it isn't a winner?

Marc, considering Notes form the Underbelly grew from its established lead-in in the demo, should it really be considered a loser? definitely not a winner or honorable mention... but a loser? you'd have to expect that without a Grey's lead-in it would drop viewers and demo.
