Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Also, since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 9 percent in early 2006-07 to approximately 20 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.
----------
-Friday’s Winners: (Keep in mind that the expectations are lower on this HUT challenged evening) Deal or No Deal (NBC), Ghost Whisperer (CBS), Numb3rs (CBS)
-Honorable Mention: Friday Night Smackdown! (CW)
-Disappointing: Friday Night Lights (NBC)
-Friday’s Losers: The Next Great American Band (Fox), Men In Trees (ABC)
----------
-Ratings Breakdown: CBS dominated this typically lackluster Friday, with a first-place finish in households, total viewers and adults 18-49. Second overall was NBC, followed by ABC, the CW and the home of colossal dud The Next Great American Band, Fox. The Next Great American Band sunk to a mere 2.87 million viewers and a 1.2 rating/4 share among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, that was a decrease of 740,000 viewers and 20 percent in the demo from its already disappointing debut one week earlier (Viewers: 3.61 million; A18-49: 1.5/ 5 on Oct. 19, 2007). Was there any real need for Fox to try to clone American Idol?
CBS and NBC opened the evening tied for first in the 8-9 p.m. hour as follows:
Deal or No Deal (NBC) Viewers: 10.50 million (#1), A18-49: 2.3/ 8 (#2)
Ghost Whisper (CBS) Viewers: 9.87 million (#2), A18-49: 2.7/10 (#1)
Over at ABC, a repeat of Grey’s Anatomy in place of 20/20 finished fourth in total viewers (4.31 million) and third among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m., with a 1.3/ 5 in the demo. The CW remained on the Friday map care of Friday Smackdown!, which was fourth in both total viewers (4.61 million) and adults 18-49 (1.4/ 5) from 8-10 p.m. Too bad the CW does not get results like this all week.
ABC and CBS shared leadership in the 9 p.m. hour as follows:
Women’s Murder Club (ABC) Viewers: 8.90 million (#1), A18-49: 2.0/ 6 (#2t)
Moonlight (CBS) Viewers: 8.56 million (#2), A18-49: 2.4/ 7 (#1)
Compared to one year earlier, Women’s Murder Club increased by 2.04 million viewers from former occupant Men in Trees (8.90 vs. 6.86 million on Oct. 27, 2006), but it was down by nine percent among adults 18-49 (2.0/ 6 vs. 2.2/ 6). Moonlight versus former occupant Close to Home declined by 2.27 million viewers (10.83 to 8.56 million) and 11 percent among adults 18-49 (2.7/ 8 to 2.4/ 7). Why CBS canceled Close to Home is a mystery to begin with.
Also at 9 p.m. was NBC’s Friday Night Lights, which finished third in total viewers (5.88 million) and tied for second with Women’s Murder Club among adults 18-49 (2.0/ 6). Retention for Friday Night Lights out of Deal or No Deal was just 56 percent in viewers, but a solid 87 percent among adults 18-49.
CBS’ Numb3rs dominated at 10 p.m., with 9.68 million viewers and a 2.7/ 8 among adults 18-49. NBC ranked a respectable second care of Las Vegas (Viewers: 8.18 million; A18-49: 2.4/ 8), but ABC’s Men In Trees (a personal favorite of Mr. TV) dipped to 6.51 million viewers and a 1.7/ 5 in the demo -- third in both categories. Next week, Men in Trees flips time periods with 20/20, with Men in Trees at 8 p.m., leading in Women’s Murder Club at 9 p.m., followed by 20/20 back in its former 10 p.m. time period. And there you have it -- that’s Friday.

Is this a typo as well? It looks like WMC (and not Moonlight) tied w/ FNL foe #2 in the demo.
Out of curiosity (I don't watch either show, so I really don't care what you label them as) why is Men in Trees a loser and Friday Night Lights only disappointing? FNL squandered a bigger lead-in in total viewers, and they both had about the same retention in the demo.
Hmm, looks like Womens Murder Club and Moonlight are about equals with the latter taking the demo and the former taking the viewers. Look for WMC to improve viewerwise next week when Men in Trees which should improve over that Greys repeat at 8 moves to its new time. I think if Men in Trees pulls in 6.5 to 7 million at 8pm it will be just fine.

I gave FNL the benefit of the tied because it tied for second among adults 18-49.
