The CW’s waiting-to-be axed Veronica Mars (Viewers: #5, 1.88 million; A18-49: #5, 0.9/ 2).
Under 2 million! That's beyond sad. And there pretty much goes my last hope that Veronica Mars will continue (at least in its present form).
You're right. At this point the new form is VM's only shot to come back. Even though it wouldn't be VM anymore...new title, new cast, new location and new time...it would be a new show along with those others The CW will launch this September.
Is there any chance the CW would disregard these numbers because of the pre-emption? Their upfronts are in a week, and I'm sure this was decision-making time with regards to VM. Is it possible this pre-emption may save VM because the CW will latch onto the LA excuse, even though it's pretty much guaranteed that the ratings would've been godawful even if the episode had aired in LA?
Please observe while people who once said VM had to stay above 3mil viewers and 2.0 18-49 to survive scramble for rationalizations as to why a broadcast network show that just had a first-run episode led-in by the penultimate ep of Gilmore Girls garner LESS than 2mil total viewers, and UNDER 1.0 in the 18-49 demo should be renewed.
Wow...no matter how well the pitch was last week fo the new VM, this show needs to axed...and QUICK!!!
1.88 million is just completely unacceptable.. Even "Runaway" had numbers just above this (and lower than this for its final episode) and it was yanked immediately.

I think the CW will bring back VM "The FBI Years" for the fall as a limited series. Give it a 13 episode run to see "what if"... version 1.0 is done and gone.....

The time is irrelevant, but you're right--that wouldn't really be a renewal at all. Just a desperate attempt to pad the syndication package of an old show, while trying out a new one. And it wouldn't work, but hey--this is CW. Nothing ever works.
One market - no matter how big - is absolutely no excuse for 1.88 million viewers.
I'm sorry, this show is done now. Regardless of how many spaces are on the CW lineup next year, this show does not deserve one anymore.

The opening had me doubled over laughing! Very funny episode (penned by David E. Kelley). He should write every episode. While he normally does a great job of presenting both sides of an issue, last night was very one-sided. I still loved the episode, but I can see how it could turn off some right-leaning viewers. Excellent hour of television. Perfect mix of drama and comedy.
