Wrong. CBS used to pull 11 million in that slot and higher demos when Close to Home aired there.
That was last year, almost everything is down now. Not that anyone would say it was a good idea to cancel C2H for ML, but it wouldn't pull 11m this year. quote: Moonlight, had it not been for the monster disasters of Viva Laughlin, Cane, and Kid Nation, would not even be on the air today.
What about NA vs. Kville, CL, JJ... That and the strike is the only reason it got to even air all its episodes. quote: Moonlight is a highly acquired taste and 9 million on basically any night besides Fridays and Mondays (where the cheaper comedies air) is not acceptable at CBS.
I don't disagree with that, but you were saying that ML would pull 6m on a "competitive slot", when it does better on Friday. quote: It is not a hit.
But not a failure either like NA.

Not surprising since FOX had 4.5 hours of Idol on last week. Surprised how low ABC is with a new Desperate Housewives episode mixed in. quote: Originally posted by dumont: Weekly numbers are out for Week 29 just ended, and FOX won the young demo decisively and even edged out CBS for most viewers:
Week 29, Broadcasters Ranked on A18-49 (000's of 2+ Viewers) ====================================== 1. FOX 3.8 (10,270) 2. CBS 3.0 (10,250) 3. ABC 2.4 (8,080) 4. NBC 2.1 (6,640) 5. UNI 1.5 (3,550) 6. THE CW 0.8 (2,010) 7. TEL 0.5 (1,190) 8. MNT 0.4 (1,050) 8. TF 0.4 (860)
On season-to-date, it's still a tie for seconde between ABC and CBS as NBC has fallen back to fourth in the demo:

Not surprising at all since ABC's Thursday night was 2 hours of Desperate Housewives repeats and EM:HE did not air which would have been stronger than Oprah's Big Give.

quote: Originally posted by Twins12: Before everyone laments how bad BBT and HIMYM did last night in the ratings, they really did not do that bad. Look at BBT and HIMYM this year compared to how HIMYM (at 8:00) and Old Christine did last year :
"The Big Bang Theory" (households: 4.7/8, #11, half-hour: N/A; adults 18-49: 2.9, #T8, half-hour: N/A), "How I Met Your Mother" (households: 4.9/8, #T9, half-hour: N/A; adults 18-49: 3.4, #4, half-hour: N/A),
Last year on this date :
"How I Met Your Mother" (households: 4.3/7, #T11; adults 18-49: 2.3, #T11), "The New Adventures of Old Christine" (households: 4.8/7, #8; adults 18-49: 2.6, #9)
We just have to lower out expectations this time of year. DST is going to kill these early shows. They both finished second in the time slot in the demos and both beat last years time slots easily, which is pretty good with the tough competition they face. These two shows are doing fine.
In the essence of easier understanding, and an added note that How I Met Your Mother was a repeat at this time last year, here's a comparison: CBS/Monday 4.14.08: 8:00 p.m. The Big Bang Theory Viewers: 7.69 million (#3), A18-49: 2.9/ 8 (#2) 8:30 p.m. How I Met Your Mother Viewers: 7.99 million (#4), A18-49: 3.4/ 9 (#2) 9:00 p.m. Two and a Half Men Viewers: 13.83 million (#2), A18-49: 5.3/13 (#1) 9:30 p.m. Rules of Engagement (return) Viewers: 10.32 million (#2), A18-49: 4.0/10 (#1) ---------- CBS Monday 4.16.07: CBS sitcoms How I Met Your Mother (R, Viewers: 6.60 million; A18-49: 2.3/ 7) and The New Adventures of Old Christine (Viewers: 7.06 million; A18-49: 2.6/ 7). CBS’ Two and a Half Men, with 12.98 million viewers and a 4.4/11 among adults 18-49. That led into soon-to-conclude The King of Queens at a dominant 12.29 million viewers and a 4.5/11 among adults 18-49 at 9:30 p.m. So, Two and a Half Men went up, and CBS is doing better in the 8pm hour as well.

I think if ML ever had any competition on opposite it the show would totally bomb. Next year the time slot would be slightly more competitive with DOND, possibly Bones & WMC.

Star Wars Bongs Kong to Kick-off Second Triumphant WeekendThe second Star Wars trilogy (actually the first, if release dates are considered) triumphed over this past weekend, getting off to a strong start on Friday vs. the updated King Kong. According to Nielsen: Friday:Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (SPIKE) -2.500 million viewers, 1.1 A18-49 VS King Kong (TNT) -0.7 A18-49 Saturday:Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back(SPIKE) -3.480 million viewers, 1.5 A18-49 Sunday:Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (SPIKE) -4.120 million viewers, 1.8 A18-49 Friday to Sunday:Star Wars Trilogy One: I, II and III -averaged 3.460 million viewers, 1.4 A18-49 VS. Star Wars Trilogy Two: IV, V and VI -averaged 3.370 million viewers, 1.5 A18-49 The record established the previous Sunday with the world broadcast and cable premiere of Revenge of the Sith was sustained and it continues to be the all-time highest-rated movie in SPIKE's history. SPIKE will unspool the six Star Wars films, in episode order, over the next six Sundays. May the force be with SPIKE!

First, I will agree with you that New Amsterdam, if not for the strike would've been relegated to Friday duty where it likely would've pulled in fewer viewers, although had it gotten Bones originals as a lead in, maybe not. Second, not every program is down from last year. I do think C2H would've dipped, but it would've been able to do as well as Ghost Whisperer and Numb3rs (like it did last year and many times better). Therefore it would've outdone Moonlight anyway. I don't think Moonlight would do better on a more competitive night. The whole reason imo why its even doing mediocre (and that's all the better it really is doing for a CBS drama) is the complete and utter lack of competition in that hour. Women's Murder Club almost skews the same. Fox had nothing airing there earlier this year. NBC had Friday Night Lights. Its a terribly weak hour. Finally, neither shows are a hit and neither are failures. New Amsterdam, unlike Moonlight, was basically thrown out there as strike bait original programming with another freshman show as a lead in. In fact, had Fox's original slate not been interrupted due to the strike, I'm not sure it would've ever launched. Its episode order was cut early on. All things up against it. But it still pulled in 7 million. Its really not a whole lot worse than Prison Break and T:SCC. It didn't do all that bad. Did it survive the wretched hand it was dealt? No, but it gave it one hell of a shot. I would argue the same case for Canteburry's Law too.

I live in a "blue state", and I haven't seen any of the ads. Of course, if the OMFG billboard had been put up in Chicago, the St. Sabina Reverend (the one who tried to have "Jerry Springer" taken off the air here ten years ago) would demand it be ripped down... quote: Originally posted by Obveeus: quote: Originally posted by robert: I don't know why but those ads are regional. Blue State: OMFG Red State: OMG Now, each person can figure out what state they live in simply by watching a CW commercial.
