----------
-Friday’s Winners (keep in mind that the expectations are lower on this evening): Law & Order (NBC), 20/20 (ABC)
-Friday’s Losers (excluding repeats): Supernanny (ABC), Ugly Betty (ABC), The Jay Leno Show (NBC)
----------
-Ratings Breakdown: It was another modest night of results on this second Friday of the Nov. 2009 sweeps, with CBS the most-watched network (with under 8-million viewers) and ABC and CBS tied for first among adults 18-49 (with under a 2-rating in the demo). But the one show worth positively noting was ABC’s 20/20, which featured an interview with Rihanna talking about former boyfriend Chris Brown. The veteran newsmagazine was the top-rated show of the evening with 8.18 million viewers and a 2.7 rating/9 share among adults 18-49 at 10 p.m. Comparably, that built from relocated lead-in Ugly Betty (Viewers: #3, 4.76 million; A18-49: #3, 1.3/ 4 at 9 p.m.) by a hefty 3.42 million viewers and 108 percent in the demo. And it was 20/20’s best performance among adults 18-49 and adults 25-54 (3.1/ 9) since the weeks of March 27, 2009 and Feb. 13, 2009, respectively; and highest among adults 18-49 (2.3/ 9) in almost three years.
Earlier in the evening on ABC was relocated Supernanny at a not so super third-place finish in both total viewers (4.75 million) and adults 18-49 (1.3/ 4) at 8 p.m.
Elsewhere, two episodes of NBC’s Law & Order inched past CBS’ normally dominant combination of Ghost Whisperer and Medium as follows:
Friday 8 p.m. Law & Order (NBC) Viewers: 7.99 million (#1), A18-49: 1.8/ 6 (#1t)
It looks like the scripted granddaddy still has some life left in it. Even so, 10 p.m. occupant The Jay Leno Show squandered the improved lead-in support with 4.60 million viewers and a 1.2/ 4 among adults 18-49. Considerably stronger was CBS’ second-place Numb3rs at 8.09 million viewers and a 1.8/ 6 among adults 18-49. As reported last week, however, the episode order for sure-to-be ending Numb3rs was cut back from 22 to 18.
Over at Fox, repeats of House (Viewers: #4, 3.91 million; A18-49: #4t, 1.2/ 4) and Bones (Viewers: #4, 4.09 million; A18-49: #4, 1.2/ 4) were an improvement over recent occupants Brothers, which now airs Sundays at 7 p.m., ‘Til Death, which is back on hiatus, and Dollhouse, which is returning in December. The CW closed the night with veteran Smallville (Viewers: #5, 2.76 million; A18-49: #4t, 1.2/ 4), which is down significantly from its former Thursday home but an improvement over year-ago occupants Everybody Hates Chris and The Game, and a repeat of America’s Next Top Model (Viewers: #5, 1.15 million; A18-49: #5, 0.5/ 2).
Wow. What happened to CBS? Numbers is the highest rated CBS show of the night and both Medium and Ghost Whisperer are below 8 mil? Crikey, didn't see that coming!

surprised that they didn't adverstise the twist in storyline on UGLY BETTY.
Why has CBS treated numbers so badly after it has done so well for them over the years? It was such a strong show just two years ago, that I felt that they could have moved it to another night and gotten even higher ratings.
Numbers also isn't off the ratings that Ghost Whisperer and Medium are earning. I can't imagine it's that much more expensive than either of those two shows or that cancelling Numbers for likely Flashpoint is going to completely fix all of their declines. It just seems that they are trying to find a scapegoat to hide their disappointments and Numbers is it.

What the hell is happening to CBS? Ghost Whisperer and Medium are WAY too low for CBS standards. And Numb3rs is the highest rated show of the night? The show that was just cut to 16 episodes beat the shows that have full 22 seasons?
But also odd is how Law & Order was up so much this week. It had like a 1.4 demo and 7 million viewers last week. Now it's up to 8 million and a 1.8-1.9 demo? That makes no sense at all. I can vouch for that, too, since I watched L&O at 8pm - the episode was one of the worst I've seen in some time. Very, very odd night all around.
But back to CBS, they really need to think about moving things around. Seriously, losing to NBC and ABC in one night, the night they've won for so long, has to be a wake up call. Perhaps for midseason, CBS really will consider moving Ghost Whisperer/Medium to Sundays. If they leave them on Fridays, the chances of both returning for next season will be considerably lower.

Ghost Whisperer and Medium would not do well on any other night, but Friday. If CBS can't get what they want out of them on Friday nights then they will cancel them both. Even though Medium was mistreated on NBC the demo was not very high. Therefore the only thing CBS could switch out for Medium is it's comedy block on Wednesday. Otherwise they are taking a loss. Ghost Whisperer has been in the same timeslot for 5 years now. People know where this show is. People simply just do not want to watch this show anymore. It has heavily declined because of the kind of show it has evolved into. It is no where near as good of a show as it was in its first season.

It's disappointment, no doubt, but why not move GW/Medium to Sundays? They can't do anyworse than Three Rivers/Cold Case are now, and with declining ratings on Fridays, theres still a shot to save them rather than give up on them.
Can't say I watch Ghost Whisperer, but Medium is still at the top of its game. Last night's episode was another prime example of how fresh and entertaining this show remains. With GW declining, though, this show is going with it, and now it's doing even worse than it was doing on NBC last season. Not good at all.
Still, I just don't get last night's ratings at all. Was Law & Order some sort of special episode at 9pm last night? Perhaps the younger viewers who tuned into watch 20/20 also tuned into watch Law & Order? Hopefully we'll see both GW/Medium rebound last week. On a positive note, this is a good thing for Numb3rs. Perhaps CBS will rethink their decision to cut it to 16 episodes.

Sunday night is a competitve night of television. I just don't see CBS putting aged genre shows on that night. Obviously Three Rivers and Cold Case is low, but I picture them putting something new there entirely.
I believe last night was the first night that Numb3rs held its own this season.
Law & Order was a fluke, I think. I saw a lot of promos for this 2 hour event and it was entirely to boost ratings (and probably to fill programming since they are short Southland). Next week we'll see if all these Law & Order viewers are sticking around or not.
