Correct Mushu, it's easy to get a high debut on something that's just a rehash of another hit show. I'm not sure why Robert is so impressed by that.

Yeah right.
The point is that CBS takes no risks. Clearly it works at times but viewers will eventually grow tired of NCIS, just like they have with the CSI's and their clones.
If there's anything that Dancing can prove, it's that the spring edition can be stronger than the fall edition. I believe that's happened the past two seasons.

My prediction was just one edition off. I thought the tumble would happen last spring.

Good to see "Dancing With The Has Beens" finally taking a tumble. Let's hope people are finally getting tired of that.
When that happens, CBS will just spin off The Mentalist or Criminal Minds or something else. The network has done a good job redirecting the audience into other shows.

No strong opinions about anybody in the cast here, I'd say it was a decent production, and potentially this forgotten person concept could be compelling if plied right, but I didn't see anything that would get it over the hump over the long haul with the ABC audience.
My guess is that fans of shows like Cold Case and Without a Trace will not find this, and if they did, perhaps not identify with the younger slanting cast. And although I generally have been critical of the tendency in this forum to say shows are on the wrong network, the old saying is that if you can't beat em, join em, so I will say ABC is really one of the worst places for this to be, better, say, Fox.
Yes I agree. ABC is not the right place for this but if they had a show to lead into it, older skewing DWTS is the show. I agree its very much in the vein of Cold Case or Without a Trace.
As for the show itself, the cast is pretty meh at this point, but there has never been anything overly great about any Bruckheimer casts if you ask me.
They really have. I'm surprised they haven't spun off CM yet. The way CM fluctuates in the ratings, perhaps they don't feel its stable enough to launch a spinoff yet?

Yeah. Even Private Practice had a monster debut with rather limited promotion from ABC two years ago.

Wasn't it you who was plastering pics of people yawning in response to CBS's New Fall Show announcements?
That may have actually been me. I'm certainly not watching Three Rivers, the Good Wife looks like a yawn to me. I'll sample AOP today sometime along with the HIMYM season premiere at CBS.com.
Criminal Minds would be an obvious one to spin-off especially as it's based on a FBI unit, they could easily have a backdoor pilot focusing on another criminal unit. The Mentalist is probably not as easy to spin-off.
Broadcaster Comeback Continues on Second Night of New Season Showing Growth Vs. Last Year AND Two Years Ago
Broadcasters can only be pleased with last nights numbers (with DVR penetration at 33%), which were up for the second consecutive night from the first night of the new season last year (when DVR penetration was 27%), and were up in households and P2+s from even two years ago (when DVRs were in only 19% of HUT).
And I must point out that this growth came despite MyNetworkTV being in repeats last night vs. originals last year ('Street|Patrol'/'Jail') and originals two years ago ('Academy'/'Jail').
7-net Comparatives (Big 6 + UNIvision)
Second Night of New Season 2009 vs. 2008 and 2007
-------------------------------------------------
2009 preem night vs. 2008 preem night (last year):
HH up +2%, Viewers up +3%, A18-49 up +2%
2009 preem night vs. 2007 preem night (2 years ago):
HH up +2%, Viewers up +3%, A18-49 down -5%
It's been a while since broadcasters showed a couple of nights of year-over-year growth, let alone growth from two years ago.

I thank CBS for saving 'Medium', for preserving '60 Minutes' and for giving 'How I Met Your Mother' another season, but all their new stuff sounds so trite and predictable, just like that waste-of-time 'NCIS: LA' spin-off.
For me, CBS this fall stands for Colourless Boring Snoring tv, helpful only for evenings when the sleeping medication bottle is empty.

The real news here is that there is still a lot of opportunity for any net at 10pm. People are either tuning out or watching earlier shows on dvr. The nets just need to put something on that is worthy of appointment tv.
First of all it's not CBS's fault people are willing to watch different versions of the same show. And anyway it's their merit for having those monster hits in the first place. Let's see how NCISLA will hold up comapred to PP, i'm willing to bet it's going to hold up much better. And what about Mentalist. As far as i know that's not a spinoff and in it's first year became a monster hit. How many non-scripted shows on the other networks managed that last season?

I'm not surprised that 90210 dropped so much (from already low levels) year-to-year. After watching every 90210 episode since the premiere last year, my wife and I decided to not watch the episode that was DVR'd last night and we took it off our DVR timers list.
My wife is well in the target W18-34 demo and was a big fan of the original series when she was a kid...so for her and her friends to decide to give up the new series surprised me. We accidentally caught the last 30 minutes of Biggest Loser last week and watched our first full episode last night--it seems like a great replacement for 90210.
Ah, I love this time of year. New Shows, premieres and Old, worn out predications.
NCIS is now in its 7th Season and is GROWING. Not only are people NOT growing tired, but it is becoming a hot must see series. Even the 18-49 Demo is growing large. Not many shows can say they had a 4.6 Demo rating.
But I do Agree, in about 4-7 years, NCIS may not be on the air.
