Why 'in this case'? It isn't like the swimming event is of any national importance (like a war breaking out). Besides, in all likelyhood, people hearing the results beforehand increases the West Coast audience (its calle dthe bandwagon effect). Airing it tape delayed increases the number of people that will see it.
A huge congratulations to the women gymnasts last night for getting the job done. Nerves of steel, yet routines full of grace and poise. Well done Nastia and Shawn!
Can anyone tell me where I can find the ratings for NBC after 11pm? Thanks in advance.

I'd chalk up the poor result to the teams involved, not to the lack of interest in NFL (even pre-season).
But you have to admit that if there were no Olympics up against it, the NFL exhibition may have gotten better numbers.
Did these two half hours really match identically?
According to the information I received, yes. =============================================== Despite ongoing rumors all summer, I still was disappointed to learn of Chris "Mad Dog" Russo's departure from WFAN sports radio, as of yesterday. I grew up with this show in the New York area when my sports-loving father would leave on WFAN 24/7. But my dad would especially tune in from 1-6:30pm, when "Mike and the Mad Dog" would air. I was never the biggest fan of the program because at times, I thought the duo was a bit arrogant, thinking they were both know-it-alls. But for the most part, I did like the two guys - they were never boring and their show was the best sports talk radio show, bar none, in the U.S.A. in the past 20 years.
I liked how each Monday, they would play a TV ratings guessing game of the sports events of the past weekend. My fondest memory of the show was during the entire month of October 1996. Mad Dog hoped for a Yankees ouster but was countered by Mike Francesa (a Yankee fan) continually playing the anthem for the '96 Yankee playoff run, which was Aretha Franklin's "Freeway of Love". And of course, the Yankees went on to become 1996 World Champions.
I will still listen to the Mad Dog, for it is rumored he will be on Sirius XM radio. And, Mike will still continue to be on WFAN and YES Network. However, it is the end of an entertaining era.

'We want to make more money' is the stupidest thing you have ever heard?
In this case yes
I live on the West Coast and I watch the Olympics on the Canada channel. They show them live which is around 7-8pm my time and have less commercials. I tend to fall asleep before the NBC station shows it.
Congrats to Big Brother last night! It was up from last week and all this week, which is a good sign. I was very happy to see Libra go - I honestly couldn't stand that woman from the getgo. Also happy to see Renny HOH. I think we BB fans are in for another good week of episodes!

Sure, but Carolina/Phily is not the kind of matchup that would perform well anyway. Put Indy/Patriots on last night and see what kind of ratings preseason gets against the Olympics.

And I doubt tonights Raiders/Titans game will do any better...

3 times the rate of Big Brother viewers in Houston than in NYC?
You're welcome, Obveeus. And there was no typo - 3 times the rate of Big Brother 10 households in Houston than in New York.

Here's a technical question. Would NBC recieve credit for raings of the same show, if it had different LIVE events on the West Coast than what we see on the east, even though its the same program?
Personally, I think NBC should be LIVE from 8pm ET through 6am. Give a 30 minute brake (accross the country) for Locals to have news. Now, this would only work for this Olympics.
Come 2012, in London, Nothing will be live for Primetime viewing. But the 2010 Winter games, in Vancouver, should have plenty of events in the evening hours.
Thanks for the link. It made me chuckle. "Hmm, we can land a spacecraft on Mars, but we can’t strip off a misleading graphic from videotape."
They do this because they want the olympics in primetime, right? But they don't end until after midnight here, so starting them at 6pm instead of 7 would still leave a giant chunk in prime time.
I know. I was just hoping that neither would step out of bounds. Each time they lined up for those corner-to-corner runs with flips, I held my breath.

Likely, primetime events would still be limited to those that take place indoors, though.
