Last Night's Winner: XXIX Summer Olympics (NBC) thanks, Mr. Phelps!
Last Night's Loser: NFL Preseason Football: Carolina at Philadelphia (FOX) even in an NFL-obsessed nation, viewers preferred meaningful sports competition (and even a "Grey's Anatomy" repeat) over exhibition football.
Last Night's Notables: You know CBS had a decent Thursday night when a repeat telecast of CSI was its least watched program of the night. Flashpoint continues its modest success by increasing the audience from its CSI lead in.
And, last but certainly not least, Big Brother 10, the night's most-watched program on CBS, did not fall below its series average, despite airing opposite the Olympics. So, it seems CBS had made the right move to return "Big Brother 10" back on Thursdays from Wednesdays.
As for what went on during "Big Brother 10", I was most pleased with the result of last night's Head of Household competition.

6.7 million average for BB against the Olympics is pretty good..and i agree, I was most happy for the HOH result (and the live audience seemed to be as well)...
I do wonder what happens next week when the swimming and gymnastics are done however- there's really not a lot of interesting track and field stories around.. (one I am interested in is Breaux Greer, a US javelin thrower. He got in on a technicality because he was injured, but can throw it well when he's healthy....one of his side jobs this year was a TV gig- he was "Hurricane" on American Gladiators (and his current girlfriend is "Phoenix" from the show- he wears pink highlights in his hair right now because of her)....

There was a rain-delay and FOX substituted a half-hour repeat of "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" around 8:30pm est. I'm sure it affected the ratings. I'm not sure what time the game got started. (Edit - The game resumed at 9:24 p.m.)

I believe that that 6.7 million average viewership is the highest that the franchise has scored so far this summer. How many other series can set a season high viewership total opposite the Olympics? So much for those who were writing BB's obituary early just a few short weeks ago.
Concerning last night's episode, I found it very interesting when the home viewers - and probably the BB10 contestants - could hear the live studio audience actually cheer when April got eliminated from the Head of Household competition. Perhaps a sign of things to come?

I'd chalk up the poor result to the teams involved, not to the lack of interest in NFL (even pre-season).
Why FCC isn't fining NBC is beyond me. They're basically misleading the viewers
And how on Earth can NBC refuse to show Phelp's record attemp live on the West Coast? I've heard a lot of stupid things lately but this one beats all of them
Thanks for the link. It made me chuckle. "Hmm, we can land a spacecraft on Mars, but we can’t strip off a misleading graphic from videotape."
They do this because they want the olympics in primetime, right? But they don't end until after midnight here, so starting them at 6pm instead of 7 would still leave a giant chunk in prime time.

Does anybody actually think that this isn't a case of channel flippers being counted towards both programs (Olympics and Big Brother)? I'd love to see the actual C3 data for this program. I'd bet money that it wasn't one of the higher performing episodes of this season in that regard.

The best they could do is put another 'bug' over...maybe a red circle with a line through it directly over the word 'live'? Still, this isn;t anything new and it has been going on for decades with Awards shows and stuff. I'm mind boggled that anyone in the West is still confused by it.

It ends late in every timezone. Actually, it ends an hour earlier in Cetral and Mountain than it does in East/West, just like 'regular' TV. I'm not really sure why NBC decided to push the coverage so late other than that they feel preempting the Tonight Show audience is a better economic plan than trying to preempt national news? It does seem like they have been paid off by the accountants working to reduce the amount of unused 'sick' leave that is sitting on American company ledger sheets.

'We want to make more money' is the stupidest thing you have ever heard?
