It's a… milestone! The Secret Life of an American Teenager's midseason finale on Tuesday night delivered 4.5 million total viewers, setting a series high in that measure, as well as in the 18-49 demo. It represents ABC Family's most-watched original series telecast ever.
Naming names (if not talking utter smack), the cabler also notes that the finale's audience — as well as its performance in several key demos — was better than that of any episode of the super-trendy Gossip Girl. And versus Tuesday's 90210, Teenager performed better in the women 18-34 and 12-34 categories by double- and triple-digit percentages.

But I didn't care for it at all. And I love horror and scifi, but felt nothing from any of the characters which is a deal breaker for me.
I don't think it was too bad of a start. I'm sure they were hoping for it to be a huge hit right out of the gate, but 8 million isn't anything for FOX to turn it's nose up at and a 3 in the demo is good. I'm sure House (and if FOX goes according to mid-season plan) American Idol will bring some new viewers to the show.

If it keeps those ratings I think CW would keep it over Reaper.
I don't see why they couldn't keep both. I think OTH is about on its last season. Creatively how much longer than these shenanigans go on? Plus with Smallville exiting, that opens a slot on Thursday and I don't see Privileged leading off Thursdays. I would think they would also want to put Stylista on eventually as a midseason filler for Top Model. Perhaps run a season in January and then in the summer if things go well. 90210 regardless of how far it drops at this point, probably won't do any worse than Gossip Girl and that sort of seems to be the bar for them right now.
OTH is great this season so what are you talking about. They were in a creative slump a couple of seasons ago but they're out of it. GG should be cancled beacause of the lack of any creativity

I think 'lack of creativity' could also apply to One Tree Hill. That show has never had much to distinguish it from other teen soaps.
I watched the season premiere last week and I couldn't believe how awful the crazy nanny storyline was. Why doesn't the lady just kidnap the kid, instead of making more work for herself? Oh wait, we've got 'golden' storytelling at it's best...
Of course Dollhouse is bad. Just look at the teaser FOX put online, its awful. FOX needs to just pull the plug on it now. Just because its Joss Whedon doesn't mean its good.
If 24 goes down also, there's no hope for FOX Mondays. I'd prepare something like Courtroom K or Lie to Me to fill in on Mondays fast. Perhaps Bones.
My Network TV has relatively Strong Premire Tuesday
The finals are in for My Network TV's Tuesday season premieres of Street Patrol and JAIL. For the night, MyTV averaged 1.53 Million viewers and a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demo. The highlight of the night was the 9:30pm ET episode of JAIL wich drew 2.02 million viewers.
Tuesday nights, along with the addition of SMACKDOWN on Fridays will be big steps for MyTV to challenge the CW for the #5 position among english speaking US broadcast networks. The all new Wednesday comedy lineup should also do well (by MyTV standards) and could/should average at least 1.5 million viewers for the night. The Thursday & Saturday Night movies have shown that they can/will draw at least 1.25- 1.90 million viewers. Only Monday night looks to be the below average night of programming.
Excpect to see MyTV to average in the neighborhood of 2 million viewers per week once their complete lineup premieres.

Uh hu. I've seen both and while Gossip Girl is taking a backseat in my programming this fall (OTH likely will too), I can with 100% certainty tell you that the writing on Gossip Girl is 10x better than what we've gotten on OTH. While both shows are unrealistic in the craziest ways, at least the kids on GG are rich, so its somewhat believable. The fact that these goons on OTH have had this much success early is just ridiculous. Owning your own fashion line? Having a book published about some suicide-escaping crazy blond chick who you're just crazy over? Give me a break. This show was much better when they were playing unrealistic high school players because at least the parents all retained major story lines at that time.

Sheesh, and people call ME a Whedon-hater. I bow before my master.
Honestly, it's an interesting idea, and I think it's better suited to Whedon's talents than Firefly ever was. I don't think he's got another Buffy in him, but this could work. Anyway, it might not totally suck.
Those numbers for Jail/Street Patrol are excellent and better than first year numbers. Once Smackdown comes in and promotions get going for MNTV, these shows could really benefit. Wouldn't surprise me to see them pull 2.5 million by the end of the season.

Folks its starting to get really disappointing to look at the ratings so far this year. FOX's comedies have struggled out the gate behind a huge lead in like Bones. Til' Death had a 4.2 and Do Not Disturb got Jezebel James type numbers behind it.
I'm starting to wonder if the shows are really struggling or is this just the type of numbers were going to be getting now in days with DVR around 35% now.

I agree with you guys 100% these are very good numbers and could really do wonders for MNTV going forward. 2 million will be the new average for all of their shows once SD comes. MNTV should also use SD for some special during the week on higher HUT level days to lead-in for their shows once in a while.

You're certainly entitled to your view, but the ratings prove you are in the minority. It's also kind of absurd to compare the writing of OTH and GG -- both have over the top story lines, but OTH has managed to retain its core viewers for 6 years. I can't see that happening with Gossip Girl.
