I think that last night's Aliens in America was the funniest episode yet. The comparison between the shopping and religion was right on the mark and the mother/daughter deal on the chastity classes was as well.
p.s. - sorry, but this was also just an experiment to see if you -- who seem so outraged at people who try to get the last word -- would yet again, like a mouse to cheese poised on a trap, rise to the bait. Look forward to your next post. Because I know it's coming.
your rant baffles me...he is paid to be a critic...his job is to criticize...who said his job is to be "objective"?

I’ll give you an example: “How I Met Your Mother.” As with so many shows that try to something a bit different to stir up the old format, Marc hates it. That’s fair – not every show is for every person. But Marc lets his hatred of this show cloud his objectivity. As a result, “Mr. TV” never mentions any actual facts about the show’s performance. For example:
--At a time when sitcoms are struggling, HIMYM is finishing an indisputable second place every week in one of the harder timeslots on TV. This was not true a year ago, when shows like “Prison Break” on Fox and “Deal or No Deal “on NBC were doing quite well. At 8 pm this year, Fox and NBC have dipped considerably against DWTS. HIMYM has not.
--Week in, week out, HIMYM has beaten “My Name Is Earl,” “30 Rock” and “Scrubs” in both 18 to 49 and total viewers. HIMYM beats 75% of the very well-promoted comedies on a much younger-skewing network. When comedies starring Kelsey Grammer are clawing their way up to a 2.2 each week and HIMYM gets a 3.4, well…my guess is anyone not named Marc Berman can do the math here.
--Last night at 8 pm, HIMYM was number one in 18-49, beating Deal or No Deal, which can still pack a punch (and did at 9 pm).
Has Marc Berman ever pointed out any of this? No. Will he ever? No. If HIMYM were a show he liked, would he? Yes.
Folks, this is the creepy funhouse mirror in which the ratings are being reflected back to us.
And let’s talk for a moment about what shows “Mr. TV” does approve of...Does anyone remember his euphoric ravings about the “addictive” Deal or No Deal when it first came on? And what comedy did Marc bet on to be an instant classic back in ‘05? Jenna Elfman’s “Courting Alex.” Marc literally wrote an open letter to the producers of that show in his column, giving them ideas for ways to make the show really click, because it had so much potential. Or more recently, his ode to what a great year “Til Death” is having…
Meanwhile, Marc reviles and roots against any show that tries something different. He views any show that is quirky or smart or innovative the same way Early Man must’ve viewed fire before he realized it was good. He fears them. He doesn’t understand them.
Shows Marc goes out of his way to diss and root against (presumably while bitterly clutching his “Courting Alex” spec script):
How I Met Your Mother Pushing Daisies Veronica Mars Arrested Development Friday Night Lights 30 Rock…
The list could go on. The other week, when “Pushing Daisies” got a 3.8 in 18-49 (at a time when plenty of hour dramas are literally in the mid-to-low 2’s), he spun it like “Pushing Daisies” is a train wreck.
For the most part (“Courting Alex” aside), Mr. TV only likes shows that are big hits, regardless of quality. Marc Berman: a true champion of the Overdog. Or, maybe better, a one-word rewrite of his self-appointed moniker: Marc Berman: Mr. Mediocre TV.
If anyone else is tired of their ratings report coming with a healthy dose of bad-taste-propaganda, look around for other ratings sites.
One good one is Thefutoncritic.com, which provides a cool feature Marc doesn’t: they show you the ratings from one year earlier on that date, which can be interesting. Another good one is medialifemagazine.com. And there are more if you look around.
Just be sure to do what I’m going to do – write mediaweek.com and tell them why they’ve lost a regular visitor. Maybe that way, they’ll wise up and get someone who is not Marc Berman to do this job. We don’t all have to keep coming to this man’s terrible column out of habit. Seriously.

For all of you saying that it should only be aired with DWTS as a lead in/ and or Dance Wars (IF it puts up good numbers), are really not doing the show any favors. It had plenty of time to build an audience.....and didn't. Any network could have plugged any show after DWTS and it would have pulled down good numbers. Trying to save it by having DWTS as a baby sitter isn't going to help. As I'm sure ABC would rather put in a good show that actually retains an audience.
It's on the chopping block.
I'm sure if there was peacock walking around, it wouldn't enjoy you calling it "NBC".

I understand where flockofseagulls is coming from, but he/she went at it the wrong way. Don't be so mean to Marc, you need to thank him for put ratings day after day. This is his job and THANK YOU MARC for posting ratings everyday like this. But, just try to be a little less harsh- take Scrubs- my favorite show, yes the ratings went from 15 million in season 2 to now 4 million in its 7th and final (zach braff- lead actor wants it to end) season. Just think about how much work the actors put into creating episodes and everything. Again Marc, Thanks....

Marc, do not listen to this person--if you got any less harsh, you'd be Leo freakin' Buscaglia. (there's a dated ref, if ever I wrote one)

So you got 7 seasons, and you can't stand for anyone not to love it? Scrubs got about a billion times more love than it ever deserved, dude.

Yeah, let's think about the poor underpaid underappreciated actors, and how hard they work to create their shows, and sign their names on lucrative movie development deals and promotional contracts.
I don't always agree with what you say, but it is your site and everyone has a right to their opinion. But I respect your knowledge and appreciate the spirited discussions that come up here.
You do a great job, and if we all agreed, there would be no reason for such a discussion board.

Unfortunate, but true ... if a show is going to survive it has to be able to pull strong #'s no matter what its lead in is ... and trust me, this isn't an easy thing for me to say, because unfortunately some of the shows that I'm highly enjoying this season (including "SW?") are unfortunately faltering without a good, strong lead-in. Too bad ... I really thought it would do better.
