I could see a Tuesday or Wednesday for the comedy block. The launch of AI would also help give it a little rest each January, but you would need to break them a part for the winter/spring becuase of AI.

Thursdays work best because I think NBC's comedy are no competition at all, outside of The Office.

Bone is doing OK on Thursday (better than anything in recent years), but it is not doing its best on that night, as we saw with the recent special airings.

I bet 'Til Death is being held back for the fall and will air non stop with 40 episodes they will have available. Could be a Friday series next season.

Actually, Tuesdays are a night I could see them doing well on, but given how Bones is holding up Thursdays now and House seems settled on Mondays, there's no reason to move them around anymore. The Cleveland Show should help recreate some interest and letting KOTH finally die will help too. Til Death as a 7pm series in the spring for burnoff would probably do better than animated repeats too.

Move the Animation block to Thursdays next fall. It would do better than its doing on Sundays.

Move Bones to 8pm Sundays, after The OT and a new show to follow.

They should see if MyTV can do anything with SDSU.

Your poll is flawed. BONES is nowhere close to being a "Bubble Show"

I'll tell you what they should do with that horrific cartoon: pull it and never air it anywhere again. It was possibly one of the most painful half hours I've sat through all year.

I think you could be right. It could easily air along with My Name is Earl, which I'm sure Fox will pick up for syndicated purposes while they're at it. Since Til Death became so cheap though and so suddenly, wouldn't it have made as much sense for the show to just move over to MyNet along with the finale episodes of Earl? Fox would probably be better off on Fridays by just going back to the game shows but I'm not sure they'll do that with 5th Grader entering syndication this fall. A My Name is Earl, Til Death, DFTL Friday lineup seems like something Fox would try too.

I don't know how you made it--I lasted about ten seconds.

I would assume FOX got a real bargain on this one, in terms of production costs. I would HOPE so, anyway. But I bet you anything it costs more to produce than South Park. Which of course FOX can't steal away from Comedy Central, because of content issues.

But you only have to watch Adult Swim to know how many talented animators are working for TV now. And who did they pick? The guy who created Arrested Development, who had never done an animated series before--and who apparently was remaking a live action Australian sitcom. Whazza-HUH?

This PROVES I was right all along about AD being overrated unfunny crap! HAH! Victory is mine!

So, you always have to produce great work or else all your other work is deemed crap. Got it.

Bones - hard to imagine this is truly on the bubble.

The Unit - I see no basis for a renewal. Wish there was, but I can't see it. btw, if Sunday was the last ep, it went out with a whimper.

Speculation on new pickups - one of the most interesting possibilities to me is "The Good Wife" on CBS. Somewhat different type of offering for CBS. IF picked up, where would it fit on the sked?

Desperate Housewives - somehow, I think this show will manage to persist, in terms of longevity and decent ratings.

I believe you've heard the old Hollywood axiom, "You're only as good as your last project"?

Well, I never thought Arrested Development was much good, but I really am surprised Hurwitz was willing to put his name on a shoddy piece of product like SDSU. I mean, he PITCHED it to FOX.

I think he and the 2.5 Men guys didn't realize just how challenging a form the animated primetime network sitcom really is. Seriously, as far as the networks are concerned, how many successful ones have there been in the history of television? The Flintstones was the only one for a very long time (The Jetsons lasted one season). Every subsequent attempt failed. For over 20 years.

Matt Groening, some guy who did a little-known comic strip, came along with The Simpsons, and showed what could REALLY be done with the form--that it could make the live action sitcom look conservative and quaint by comparison (and could laugh at continuity, and avoid the problem of child actors growing up). Futurama was less successful, but ultimately proved itself on cable and DVD. Seth McFarlane and Mike Judge picked up where Groening left off, going in radically different directions.

And nobody else has come along since--plenty of fun animated shows, but all for cable, and all pretty niche-oriented.

Hurwitz just isn't very much compared to Groening, McFarlane, and Judge. Who btw, never stooped to remaking an Aussie sitcom. Big Grin

I actually knew you were going to somehow say this. I guess by this logic The Godfather sucked, because Coppola directed Jack...or did it just suck when Jack came out in 1996.

I absolutely agree with you that SDSU is a complete and utter failure. I absolutely agree that Hurwitz probably should never try this again. Where I disagree with you is when you say this somehow proves that AD sucked. I'm not going to argue with you about AD, because it's gone now. The fans are probably going to get their movie, and no one can force you to see it.

No, there's no logic in that at all, because The Godfather is still remembered as one of the best movies ever, and AD is scarcely remembered at all off the internet. Big Grin

I was only joking. I did not seriously expect anyone to take this as proof that AD sucked. Or the ratings it got year after year, in spite of the endless hype and unmerited Emmy Awards. There is no proving suckitude. You know it when you smell it. Big Grin

Getting me to see it is not the problem. Getting more than 1% of the filmgoing audience to pay money to see something they didn't want to see for free--that's the problem.

So once the movie flops, THEN can we say it's crap?

Nope. That's the beautiful thing about the concept of having an opinion.
