Does anyone miss Men in Trees on Thursday's? It was my favorite show after Grey's. It was not a monster hit but it did consistent ratings after Grey's. Marc I have some good news is I was in grocery store and reading all the Trees premiere reviews. People are raving about the premiere saying it is a charming delight as usual. Marc aren't you happy to be back in Elmo. Trees was just a much better flow then BS is after Grey's and it fairly consistent retention in repeats when it was on during the summer.
There have, in fact, been many incredibly successful shows that were planned to last only a certain period of time--mainly not produced by American networks, though.
But I imagine you've heard of Upstairs Downstairs?
Well, I cant really comment on forein productions and networks, but I do relalize that the US is different in its approach to series TV (mainly the BBC).
I've heard of Upstairs Downstairs, but that was PBS. They don't care about ratings, per say. They are much like the BBC, governement backed.
PBS is viewer-supported through donations and volunteerism, and a small amount of corporate noblesse olige...it receives very little support, financial or otherwise, from government.

Does it count as getting a back nine pickup if it is a reality show like Kid Nation and all the episodes are already filmed?
For Kid Nation (and other reality), the back nine equivalent would be the announcement of another cycle.
Although CBS hasn't picked up another cycle of Kid Nation, I read somewhere (TVTattle?) that the production company has already begun recruiting children/parents for the next cycle.
That list is for TiVo subscribers only, not the DVR public. TiVo has something like 4 million subscribers including DirecTV people, while about 20% of households with DVRs = approximately 22 million DVR homes.

Thats a 3 million loss a drop of nearly 30%
Earlier in the week, everyone was ready to cancel Cane, Bionic Woman, Chuck, and Journeyman, yet they held up better than Big Shots did.
and Big Shots did the worst of the bunch in todays Tivo PR about season pass adds... For those who havent seen the list... 2007 season pass list for premiere week....

I saw something to the effect that the producers were looking for a locale outside the US so that child labor laws could be avoided. Ah...the Tiffany network!

So, are you suggesting that a sample size of 4 million out of 22 million total isn't going to give an accurate representation? Before you answer, remember that this board is about the Nielsen ratings system.
After an extremely busy Friday, I was happy to come here and read that the hoopla of Grey's is diminishing now. While I expected that to happen sometime early this season, I AM surprised that CSI has a winning margin of over 2.5 million...I figured CSI would also see a little erosion after last year's ratings dip. But could CSI be on its way to life well-into double-digit seasons???

If a second season is made, it doesn't mean that CBS made it or that they will air it. They aren't the production company, are they?
CSI dropped almost five million viewers and it is doing amazing PLEASE. Did you see all the hoopla ABC got on Thursday pre-Greys? It had Night Stalker that did a 2.0 for the network. It was a joke. Grey's is the highest rated show in DVR, college girls love it and still has major buzz. Grey's is like what Friends did to NBC.

Nielsen tracks cable numbers don't they...have seen them in USA today. TBS was boasting that they would attract "tens of millions" of 18-49 viewers for the duration of playoffs since many of the teams were in large markets....Boston, New York, Chicago, LA. etc. How many viewers is TBS getting and how might it be impacting the week over week or year over year numbers?
I don't think the baseball playoffs have had much effect so far. The 1 game playoff between the Rockies and Padres only had around 4 million viewers. That isn't much, and certainly isn't mcuh of an increase when you factor out the regular viewer level of TBS on a given primetime night.
When they hype that they will have 'tens of millions' of viewers, they are talking about adding all their games together.
Obveeus, you were on top of the I Love New York ratings last spring. How do you think the upcoming season will do? Will it continue to put a dent in Girlfriends' audience?
No, I'm saying that a random sample of 20,000 subscribers of a specific section of the DVR community isn't representative of the DVR viewing as a whole. It's representative (let's assume) of TiVo Season Passes. And nothing else.
