Finally, some justice. (and some vindication for me - I kept telling people WMC doesn't stand a chance and that ES will be back!)

I think this is a good move, and not just for cost reasons. It will give the show an opportunity to create more authentic location shooting, perhaps even aligning episodes to actual New York fashion events. Shows like Sex and the City, Gossip Girl and the Law & Order shows all have a more authentic New York look and feel to them than CSI: New York, Friends or Seinfeld which are all LA produced shows that pretended to be set in New York.

tvbythenumbers reports that in the 8pm hour last night UNIVISION was Number 1 among all networks in the 18-34 demos. Once again i don't understand why Univision is so left out across the mainstream media, including here on this forum.

I think everyone anticipated ABC doing that. ES was a show ABC wanted to save. quote: Originally posted by robert: Eonline reports WMC is canceled and ES renwed. I cannot even comment on that without asking myself what is in ABC's execs heads. And i like ES a lot more than WMC. But there's not a single logical explanation for something like this. Doesn't ABC see what kind of numbers it's getting for it's repeats. WMC would finally be a show that would do decent in repeats, probably a WMC repeat would get more viewers than an ES original

is Univision the same as what MYTV was -- the old UPN affliliates that didn't align with the CW or is that completely different?

with all the promotion that it got and the lead in from dancing with the stars -- if Women's Murder Club can't get above 10 million, I don't that ABC had much choice.

I agree that the schedule is a prediction. I think the notes on the bottom was his analysis of the prediction. We all look at the anticipated schedule and critique it a bit. It is possible that the time slots for shows will change or a fall show becomes a mid-season show or a mid-season show becoming a fall show. In my opinion, Sitcoms online does its best naming the pilots that goes to series and gets the general timeslots correct with a tweak here or there. Can Openers is definately the weak link on the schedule. There hasn't been a lot of buzz or mention of it. If one doesn't go to series, it would be Can Openers. I think he was plugging a hole with that one. Maybe he thought Tower was more of a mid-season pick and thus wrote Can Openers as a spot filler instead of Tower? Maybe he feels that Can Openers is a shaky pick and not a lock for pick up like the others? I don't know. A lot of sources have leaked Mentalist Tuesday 9 PM, 11th Hour Thursday 10 PM, Tower Sunday 10 PM so that is why I thought they were a safe bet. quote: Originally posted by Bruce:
I went back to yesterday's thread to find the schedule you were referring to and I'm surprised people are putting that much stock in it.
I understand the site was close last year but when I read the column it looked like more of the garden variety gaming that goes on all over the place.
I have no problem with the cancellations or even the list of pickups.
But the column mentioned a number of shows that were not included in the list of likely pickups and the schedule included a few glaring contradictions:
CAN OPENERS - a (supposedly) younger slanting female drama airing against DH on Sunday?
THE MENTALIST - while I think this is more of a crime show than a paranormal show, still, coming out of NCIS? THE MENTALIST will not be like THE GUARDIAN.
COLD CASE - if they're going to air this at 10pm they might as well cancel it.
Typical of the speculation/indecision in the column was this:
"Fridays will likely remain the same, but I wouldn't be surprised if GW or NUMB3RS move to another nite"
It also harped on the football overruns and talked of the dangers it posed to a new show and then put a new show into the night talking seemingly wishfully of a shortened 60 MINUTES.

I always saw UB as a NY show so I agree that filming it there will add to the authenticity of the show. That being said, it might be a little too late to improve the ratings.

By the way, that eonline report was NOT official regarding wmc and Eli stone -- but of course does not look good.
Eonline reports also reports that they are after Pat Field to do Ugly Betty and she is NY based. One of the reasons....

Marc doesn't receive numbers for Univision, MyNetworkTV etc. That would be why. If you scroll down, though, there is a Univision forum.

WMC skews so old. I just don't think ABC was happy with keeping something so older skewing and they likely had nothing to pair with it (not that it needed it because it could grow out of nothing). Eli Stone is the best option ABC has because they will need to fill a hole.
Yeah i actually think this was the show that skews most old. It skewed really old

from variety:
McPherson has inked a new multi-year deal with ABC that keeps him in charge of the net's successful entertainment division.
Move follows weeks of speculation over whether McPherson would remain with the network, where he helped bring about one of the biggest primetime comebacks in recent TV history.
Under McPherson, ABC went from fourth place to a solid 2nd (behind "American Idol"-fueled Fox) and has won the November sweep among adults 18-49 over the past three years.
Disney/ABC Television Group co-chairman Anne Sweeney announced McPherson's new pact late Thursday.
"Steve is one of the most influential programmers of his generation," Sweeney said. "Under his leadership ABC has become a primetime powerhouse. His ability to identify talent and develop successful shows is second to none, and that, combined with his marketing savvy, has helped turn ABC Entertainment around."
McPherson took over as ABC Entertainment prexy in 2004; before that, he was president of Touchstone Television (now ABC Studios).

Univision is the Spanish language network. Privately owned and nothing to do with old UPN/WB affiliate. MNTV pooled up the UPN/WB affiliates that CW didn't take and MNTV is still on the air (just ask dumont).

It seems like ABC wants all their shows to be of the same genre: silly soaps. DH, GA, PP, DSM, UB, BS, CM, OR, MiT, and B&S all fit that mold. ES, BL and PD are hybrids between silly soap and procedural so they are still closer to the genre than WMC which didn't fit the program. Then, there is Lost, which certainly has soap opera elements, but doesn't really fit with anything else on the network.
