-Yesterday’s Winners (Despite the Considerable Year-to-Year Losses): Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (ABC), Desperate Housewives (ABC), Without a Trace (CBS)
-Honorable Mention: Cold Case (CBS), The Simpsons (Fox), Family Guy (Fox), Brothers & Sisters (ABC)
-Yesterday’s Losers (excluding repeats): Dateline (NBC), King of the Hill (Fox), 7th Heaven (CW), Movie: Along Came Polly (NBC)
----------
-Ratings Breakdown: ABC won this first Sunday of the May 2007 sweeps, with a first-place finish in both total viewers and adults 18-49. Tied for second was CBS in viewers (just 230,000 below ABC) and Fox among adults 18-49. Fourth for the evening was struggling NBC, followed by The CW, which must start from scratch on Sunday next season. Please…no more repeats of America’s Next Top Model.
As usual, CBS’ older-skewing 60 Minutes was the most-watched show at 7 p.m., with 10.77 million viewers. ABC’s also veteran America’s Funniest Home Videos won the time period among adults 18-49, with a 2.7 rating/10 share in the demo -- 42 percent ahead of 60 Minutes (1.9/ 7). AFHV was second in total viewers, with 8.44 million.
Also airing from 7-8 p.m. was the first half of a two-hour Dateline on NBC (Viewers: #3, 6.03 million; A18-49: #4, 1.3/ 5), two episodes of Fox’s deteriorating King of the Hill (Viewers: #4, avg. 3.85 million; A18-49: #3, avg. 1.8/ 7), and a repeat of The CW’s soon-to-conclude 7th Heaven (Viewers: #5, 1.23 million; A18-49: #5, 0.4/ 2).
ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition took control of the 8 p.m. hour, with 10.32 million viewers and a 3.8/11 among adults 18-49. But compared to the final nationals from one year earlier (Viewers: 13.99 million; A18-49: 5.6/15 on April 30, 2006), that was a decrease of a hefty 3.67 million viewers and 32 percent among adults 18-49. CBS’ The Amazing Race: All-Stars (go Charla!) and two episodes of Fox’s The Simpsons (original and repeat) tied for the No. two and three spots in the time period as follows:
Sunday 8-9 p.m. The Amazing Race: All-Stars (CBS) Viewers: 9.52 million (#2), A18-49: 3.0/ 9 (#3)
The Simpsons (Fox) Viewers: 7.85 million (#4), A18-49: 3.7/11 (#2)
Also in the 8 p.m. hour was the second half of NBC’s expanded Dateline (Viewers: #3, 9.30 million; A18-49: #4, 2.0/ 6), and The CW’s 7th Heaven (Viewers: #5, 2.86 million; A18-49: #5, 1.1/ 3). One year earlier (on Sunday, April 30, 2006), the also soon-to-conclude Charmed averaged 3.17 million viewers with a 1.4/ 4 among adults 18-49, based on the final nationals, on The WB.
ABC’s Desperate Housewives, of course, dominated from 9-10 p.m., with 16.85 million viewers and a 6.6/17 among adults 18-49. But the formerly addictive dramedy averaged 21.30 million viewers and an 8.9/20 among adults 18-49 on the year-ago night, also based on the final nationals. Comparably, that’s a loss of a considerable 4.45 million viewers and 26 percent among adults 18-49. Bree…we need you back!
Also at 9 p.m. was CBS’ Cold Case (Viewers: #2, 12.20 million; A18-49: #4, 2.7/ 7), Fox’s animated Family Guy (Viewers: #3, 8.22 million; A18-49: #2, 4.1/11) and a repeat of American Dad (Viewers: #3, 6.77 million; A18-49: #2, 3.4/ 9), theatrical Along Came Polly on NBC (Viewers: #4, 5.08 million; A18-49: #4, 1.6/ 4 from 9-11 p.m.), and a repeat of America’s Next Top Model on the CW (Viewers: #5, 1.48 million; A18-49: #5, 0.7/ 2).
Leadership at 10 p.m. fell into the corner of CBS’ Without a Trace and ABC’s must-not-miss Brothers & Sisters. Take a look:
Sunday 10 p.m. Without a Trace (CBS) Viewers: 13.69 million (#1), A18-49: 3.2/ 9 (#2)
Without a Trace deserves accolades for building out of Cold Case by 1.49 million viewers and 19 percent among adults 18-49. And two-thirds retention for Brothers & Sisters out of Desperate Housewives is also worth mentioning. Although I say this every week, this time I truly mean it when I ask the Emmy voters not to forget Brothers & Sisters. Did you see than scene between Sarah (Rachel Griffiths) and Joe (John Pyper-Ferguson) when Sarah confronted him about the incident with the not-so-innocent Rebecca?
Third at 10 p.m. was the second half of NBC theatrical Along Came Polly at 4.86 million viewers and a 1.8/ 5 among adults 18-49.
Hey they killed their own lineup. There's no way a level-headed person could have believed that swapping the Sunday/Monday lineups would have helped ratings this season. I'm glad to see such a poorly managed network suffering. I'm just sorry to see my favorite show on the network come down with it, stuck between 2 encores.

Also, The Amazing Race does not fit with the rest of CBS Sunday. Cold Case and Without a Trace should both move up an hour, and a new drama (or existing one) should be moved into the 10 pm slot.
Let see you alway dump on Jericho (on the bubble, on the fence, whatever) but you say that the soap box Brothers and Sisters is a must see. You and I sir have to different taste in shows.
I guess if you were a woman you would like B&S but give me the action.

Wow! Harsh words Sam....Is that slam directed toward Marc?
I guess if you were a man, you wouldn't have to stereotype what men watch.
And by the way, the Real Men Handbook that you carry specifically states that Desperate Housewives is a no-no. You better scrap that from your Top 10 list as soon as possible.

Yeah, that's pretty much all he does. Different people have different tastes. And saying Jericho is a bubble show is being overly generous at this point.

TAR definately needs to move. It competes for the same audience as EM: THE, at least for me since my clicker goes back and forth during commercials. It would be a hoot to see Charla come in first. Perhaps she can visit Matt Roloff, another addicting series!!!!!

Jericho is labeled on the fence because it gets too few viewers. If it got 11 million viewers it woule be labeled as a winner. And for the record I am not defending Brothers and Sisters - I don't even watch it.
I fully admit that "The Amazing Race" was in a bad position for the demos, but it looks like it held out for another season. It still brings in a decent Demo. Maybe 8pm Tuesday or 10pm Wednesday night would be a better fit.
