-Ratings Breakdown: NBC’s 2008 Summer Olympics from Beijing lost some steam last night, but the still very dominant 22.14 million viewers and a 7.2 rating/21 share among adults 18-49 beat the four competing networks combined by 6.19 million viewers and 41 percent among in the demo. Take a look at the half-hour prime-time breakdown:
Very distant No. 2 CBS opened the evening with Big Brother 10 at a second-place 6.19 million viewers and a 2.0/ 7 among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m. (so long, April!), followed by a repeat of CSI (Viewers: #2, 7.20 million; A18-49: #2, 1.7/ 5) and Flashpoint (Viewers: #2, 7.29 million; A18-49: #2, 1.9/ 5) from 9-11 p.m.
Next was Fox care of NFL Preseason Football at an estimated 4.34 million viewers and a 1.5/ 4 among adults 18-49 from 8-11 p.m. Lowly ABC aired repeats of Ugly Betty (Viewers: #4, 3.16 million; A18-49: #4, 0.9/ 3), Grey’s Anatomy (Viewers: #4, 3.22 million; A18-49: #4, 1.2/ 3) and Private Practice (Viewers: #4, 3.16 million; A18-49: #4, 1.1/ 3). And the CW closed the night with repeats of Smallville (Viewers: #5, 1.70 million; A18-49: #5, 0.6/ 2) and Supernatural (Viewers: #5, 1.43 million; A18-49: #5, 0.5/ 1) from 8-10 p.m. Once again, it is all about NBC. But that will quickly change, of course, after Sunday when the Summer Olympics conclude.

When the Olympics conclude, that other comepetition will heat up and churn through the beginning of November. The tighter the race for the Presidency, the more ad money will be thrown at the networks because money does buy votes. It will be interesting to see if America catches 'voter fever' the way they have caught olympic fever this year.

I don't think the show is fabulous, but those are pretty impressive ratings considering the competition. I expect to see this back next summer if not sooner.

But with "Voter Fever" comes chills, vomiting, paranoia, dementia, aches, pains and a lost of wages. There is no know cure.

It will air during a few more weeks, so It will be interesting to see how it performs without the Olympics and regular fall viewing habits are back in order.
Thankgod April left - she really started to annoy me this week. Now Ollie is like a lovesick puppydog in the house - did you see the way he looked during the HOH competition?-LOL
I have to say, those are good numbers for Flashpoint. It still manages to grow on CSI's numbers. The only thing I can see is the show has no buzz whatsoever - I see absolutely no one talking about the show at all!-LOL

Back in the primary season, a number of cable networks did very well with debate coverage; mostly on the Democrat side becasue that was the race people were thinking would decide the next President. However, as everyone returns to their party lineup, this race will look more and more like the last few Presidential races (in other words, very close voting margins). The affect should be some rather solid ratings for the conventions and some possibly stellar ratings for upcoming debates (if they occur).
Meanwhile, both parties will be spending ad money like crazy to 'buy votes'. Even if TV ratings are down again this Fall, ad income for the networks could get a significant boost in the next couple months from last minute spot market political buying.

Swingtown, on the other hand, has twice buzz and half the viewers...showing once again that buzz is meaningless in most cases.

Ollie would be crushed if he could see April's interview with Julie Chen...you could tell she was just using him and now that they are apart the showmance met a quick death...she barely acknowledged him when she was at the door ready to leave the house.
And yeah FLASHPOINT has the ratings but no buzz where as SWINGTOWN (the better show) had buzz whether you were for it or against it but not ratings.
Nina Tassler is still saying they haven't made a decision on it yet according to a interview on Blogpulse...so there is still a slender hope...

April has been annoying all along...Ollie will be fine - just keep the birds away.
Those numbers are pretty good. I think CBS would be smart in picking this up for a second season for next summer.

If you are in the band of states from New Jersey through Missouri, maybe you'll see a lot of ads, otherwise I don't think either campaign is going to spend a lot directly on national network advertising...it will be very targeted, just as it has been the last four or five elections. Remember, McCain has accepted general election public financial, which means he has a budget of $85M for the campaign after the convention, and while Obama hasn't, I doubt that he'll have much more than $150M to spend. Down here in Texas, I don't think we've seen a general election presidential ad on network TV since '88.
The tape-delaying of the Football game may be required because the game may not be a sellout. Home Markets can't show a live agme without a 72 hour advance sellout of a game.
It's NOT because they want to air a 25 year old movie in its place.
