Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 20 percent at this same point last year to approximately 28 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted.
-Losing Steam: Deal or No Deal (NBC), Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (Fox), Supernanny (ABC)
-Friday’s Losers (excluding repeats): Wife Swap (ABC), Everybody Hates Chris (CW), The Game (CW), The Ex List (CBS), Crusoe (NBC), Life (NBC)
----------
-Ratings Breakdown: It was a typically uneventful Friday, with CBS’ combination of Ghost Whisperer (Viewers: #1, 9.95 million; A18-49: #1, 2.5 rating/9 share), week four of The Ex List (Viewers: #2, 5.65 million; A18-49: #2t, 1.6/ 5) and Numb3rs (Viewers: #1, 9.07 million; A18-49: #1t, 2.2/ 7) first overall in both total viewers and adults 18-49. But the alarm bells should be ringing for The Ex List, which sunk to a series low and dropped by 930,000 viewers (6.11 to 5.18 million) and 12 percent among adults 18-49 (1.7/ 5 to 1.5/ 5) at 9:30 p.m. Ghost Whisperer was the most-watched show and highest rated in the demo for the evening (and it did not even crack 10 million viewers). And Numb3rs lands in the winner’s listing for building out of The Ex List by double-digit percentages.
NBC finished second overall in total viewers and tied for third among adults 18-49 (with Fox) with its line-up of the relocated Deal or No Deal (Viewers: #2, 6.04 million; A18-49: #2, 1.4/ 5), week two of Crusoe (Viewers: #1, 5.92 million; A18-49: #4, 1.2/ 4) and Life (Viewers: #3, 5.49 million; A18-49: #3, 1.5/ 5). Sad, isn’t it, that the Crusoe was the most-watched show at 9 p.m. and it averaged under six million viewers? Week-to-week, Crusoe dipped by 1.46 million viewers (7.38 to 5.92 million) and 25 percent among adults 18-49 (1.6/ 5 to 1.2/ 4). Life, meanwhile, built from Crusoe in the demo, but year-ago occupant Las Vegas was a stronger option.
ABC also had little of note on Friday as a result of Wife Swap (Viewers: #4, 4.22 million; A18-49: #3, 1.3/ 5), Supernanny (Viewers: #4, 5.08 million; A18-49: #1, 1.7/ 5) and 20/20 (Viewers: #2, 7.51 million; A18-49: #1t, 2.2/ 7). Growth for Superanny out of Wife Swap of 860,000 viewers and 31 percent among adults 18-49 keeps it off the loser’s list. But year-to-year both Wife Swap and Supernanny remain down by considerable proportions. If I were programming ABC, I would consider a Disney Channel themed Friday night rotation of sitcoms like Hannah Montana and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody (with wrap around commentary from the young series stars). Remember how long ABC’s TGIF block lasted?
Fox, meanwhile, had nothing to boast about with non-scripted duo Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (Viewers: #3. 5.71 million; A18-49: #4, 1.2/ 4) and Don’t Forget the Lyrics (Viewers: #2, 5.56 million; A18-49: #2t, 1.6/ 5), which should move back to Thursday before more damage is done. And the CW could not compete with its combination of Everybody Hates Chris (Viewers: #5, 1.83 million; A18-49: #5, 0.7/ 2), The Game (Viewers: #5, 1.74 million; A18-49: #5, 0.7/ 2) and a repeat of America’s Top Model (Viewers: #5, 1.22 million; A18-49: #5, 0.5/ 2). No one ever said replacing Friday Night Smackdown! would be easy.
Pretty big drop for Crusoe there, but considering friday is pretty much a dead night, NBC might keep it on air for a while longer. I like the show though, a bit different than the rest of stuff that is on air these days.

Wow, Fridays are a mess. Overall, all of the numbers are low.
I find it interesting that 20/20 does so well for ABC. It does huge gains over Wife Swap/Supernanny. NBC would be smart airing Dateline Fridays at 10 PM to try to draw in that audience.
For CBS, Ghost Whisperer and Numbers both had increases, but Ex-List is dead. It can barely keep half of the audience of Ghost Whisperer. 5.65 million? 1.6 demos? That is terrible. It needs to be pulled before November Sweeps. And no, we aren't going into the fact that the other show never dipped into a 1.6 demo.
For NBC, Deal or No Deal and Crusoe had low numbers. Crusoe had a huge week 2 drop. I give Life some credit for staying steady in the ratings ever since it moved from Friday and being the most watched in the demo for Friday. That is something to note. When Lipstick Jungle comes in, NBC is going to lose a lot of those viewers and demos. It's not going to be good.
I also give Supernanny credit for being tops in the demos. I expected that Supernanny would top Ex-List in the demos soon and it did this week. A victory for ABC and a huge loss for CBS, who was always the Friday leader. Wife Swap is stable.
AYSTA5thG and DFTL is staying steady. DFTL actually had a little ratings uptick this week and tied Ex-List in the demos. It got close to it in the viewers. I'd leave DFTL there and see if it can gain some ground on a very weak Friday 9 PM timeslot.
CW is still dead on Fridays. Both EHC and The Game are producing very low numbers. CW needs to find another option for Fridays as these shows aren't working.
Just wondering, why is 20/20 not on the winners list or at least honorable mention? 7.51 million viewers, a 2.2 demo and the growth out of Supernanny is pretty good. Also, congrats to Supernanny for beating The Ex-List in the demo!
Now to CBS. Ghost Whisperer is doing pretty well. Almost 10 million viewers at 8pm on a Friday isnt that bad. The Ex-List needs to be cancelled. Those numbers are pathetic. Are the numbers for Numb3rs a season high? I don't remember it going to 9 million this year.
FOX needs to send the game line up to Thursdays. One positive thing for FOX is the growth in demo from 5th Grader to Lyrics.
The CW is dead on Fridays. Those numbers are also pathetic.
NBC needs to send DOND back to Mondays and run it on that night ONLY. Crusoe viewer number is not all that bad, but that demo number is terrible! The numbers for Life when it moves to Wednesdays wont get much better then this.

OK, time for EX-List to go. Quick. If Crusoe it's a miniseries then NBC should air all the episodes if it's a serialized show it's time to go for it also.
I'm not getting again in the "why CBS canceled C2H or ABC WMC discussion" but i just wanna point out how much the numbers have dropped on fridays from a year and a couple of years ago. Frightening, i really think in a couple of years fridays will be just as dead as saturdays
The HSM franchise is essentially a license for Disney to print money.
I smell a HSM 4 soon...

And what would go on Friday? Drama repeats? Then again, Fox has been known to use them to plug holes all across their schedule.

ITA. GW is doing a great job to kick-off night. Last year, DOND was sucking some its audience away at beginning, but like Millionaire the luster is gone. (I wonder if the daytime version has put the nail in the prime time version?)
