Despite airing a night of all originals, ABC tanked on Friday, finishing third in total viewers and dead-last among key adults 18-49. First in overall viewership was CBS, with just slightly over 6-million, while there was a four-way tie for low-rated leadership among adults 18-49.

The 35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards got very little mileage on ABC, with just 5.39 million viewers and a 1.2 rating/ 4 share among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m. Take a look at the half-hour breakdown:

The 35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards led into a scripted hour (translation: busted pilot) called MVP: He Shoots, She Scores at just 2.47 million viewers (#3) and a 0.6/ 2 among adults 18-49 (#5) at 10 p.m.

CBS opened the evening with a repeat of Ghost Whisperer (Viewers: #1, 5.38 million; A18-49: #1, 1.4/ 5 at 8 p.m.), followed by two encore telecasts of Numb3rs as follows:

And Fox capped off the evening with a repeat of theatrical remake Planet of the Apes at 3.51 million viewers (#5) and a 1.3/ 5 among adults 18-49 (#1t) from 8-10:30 p.m. Needless to say, there was very little of note on Friday.

A puzzlingly depressed Daytime Emmy result (congratulations Ms. Jeanne Cooper on your long overdue victory) followed by an absolutely tragic set of numbers for MVP: He Shoots, She Scores, which in one fleeting hour showed so much more potential and swing than CBS's rather tame Swingtown.

Also, nice to see FOX finally get a competitive number for their FOX Friday Flicks broadcast premiere of The Planet of the Apes.

The languid numbers overall across all networks on Friday might have been caused by DISNEY's smash Camp Rock which pulled in 8.9 million viewers. I have a feeling it did rather good last night also in its ABC encore on Wonderful World of Disney.

Was MVP a buster pilot?

I don't think that Camp Rock would of affected any of these shows. None of these are really for kids.

Parents were watching with their kids. At least in my household. And we watched again last night on ABC.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) ordered 10 episodes and aired them all earlier this year. They didn't do great in the ratings (even for Canada) and the show was canceled. SoapNet picked up those 10 episodes - and they'll order a second season if those episodes do well- and ABC gave it one night of promotion (06/20/08).

Yes, I totally agree with Jeanne's win. She's 1,000,000 times the actress that the vastly overrated La Douche-ci could ever be.

As for ABC's numbers, it's not surprising. There was absolutely no tact in ABC's using it as a pimp-cast of its shows. CBS makes at least a modest attempt at keeping the exposure of all daytime programming fair. I also hated that shrill Sherri Sheppard. I don't know which one is worse, Niecy Nash or her. With either one, I'd prefer nails on a chalkboard to them. I have no idea how anyone could watch The View with her on it. (Oh, and I guess you can tell that I definitely will not watch Do Not Disturb this fall?? )

Smackdown is one of the top broadcast shows for kids 2-11.

Embarassing night for ABC. But then again with renwed shows like PD, DSM or According to JIM they should get used

I have no clue why MVP was picked up in the states when it failed so spectacularly already in Canada. Back in January, it got tonnes of promotion and then just flopped. It's puzzling because hockey is of so little consequence in the US - why would anybody think a drama about hockey would do well?

Interesting fact - MVP is the second Canadian hockey drama to move to a US network. The first was Power Play, which aired on the UPN in the summer of 99 for about three weeks.

It is amazing how much the ratings have gone down for awards shows during the past year or so.

MVP's ratings are amazingly terrible.

With ratings like this, the Daytime Emmy's will start airing DURING the Daytime.

Or, be regulatyed to a presentaion much like the Technical Awards are given.

I guess either memories are short or no one learned form the MISTAKE by MyTV of attempting to air a Primetime soap series.
