Because all those strike-repeats and crappy reality shows were really tough competition for Lost.
It was the number one show at 10pm in the demo when it returned in April and its not like Greys Anatomy is a real compatible lead in.
The core audience for LOST watches it on LIVE and DVR. Lost audience is not your typical tv audience. As i said before, i don't care about all the other TV shows. Jusk like me, majority of LOST audience is very picky and don't spend time watching too much television. Lost Audience (the DEMO factor) points out that majority of LOST audience are white collar, earning very well, and attracting a young audience. What this tells you that majority of LOST viewers are educated and don't spend time watching most of the crap on network television.
From what i see, LOST will return next year on Thursdays. I doubt they will move it back to Wednesdays or another night.
When the final DVR numbers are released, we should see a total of about 14.5-15 million viewers for the season finale. For those predicting less than 10 million for next year, maybe you should think again.
On ITUNES, The season finale part 1 and part 2 is still the most downloaded show on television.

Lost fans are watching the show in greater numbers online and through ABC's website and on their DVRs in greater proportions than most other programs. That's a positive because that's where TV is going.
One other point to make on the ratings: How many shows do you know that have aired in 5 timeslots in four seasons survived? Not very many. Think Bernie Mac.

How on earth can you conclude all that from those numbers? It doesn't skew younger than most other shows in the same genre. And for your information, young adults are poorer than average.

Judging by the ratings they are so picky that they have stopped watching Lost as well.

5 timeslots? Big deal. Scrubs has had 17 timeslots in its run.

That's fine, and even potentially great. As long as there is money to be made, they will try. At least it doesn't ruin the main plot of the series by extending it over X more years.
As for Caprica, it doesn't sound very promising (a mix of BSG, Dallas and The Wire...), but who knows.

May have been moved 17 times but it aired in only five timeslots.

Futon Critic link Scrubs has aired at 8:30, 9:00, and 9:30 on Tuesday. Scrubs has aired at 9:00 and 9:30 on Wednesday. Scrubs has aired at 8:30, 9:00, 9:30, and 10:30 on Thursday. Scrubs has aired at 8:00 and 8:30 on Saturday.
So, that makes 11 timeslots dating back to 2004 listed on Futon Critic. Scrubs premiered on a Sunday, so that makes 12.
The other 5 are probably gimmicked together with those 45 minute long 'supersized' episodes. In any case, I didn't make up the number 17. I got it from this: 17 timeslots link
