I thought the season finale was one of the best two hours of television I have ever seen.

Shortened final seasons will be a good way to keep fans interested. I do agree though with fans and ABC's treatment, but hey, at least the show gets promotion. I think it should air Wed. at 9 next January and that PP and DSM can share the 10pm hour. PD can share the 8pm hour with a new drama.

Strangely, i thought those were among the most boring 2 hours of television i watched this season

You may not of enjoyed it, but it was hardly "boring". You really should consider not watching if you really hate it as much as you do.

He just says that sort of stuff because it irks him that shows like Lost get tons of buzz but stuff like Criminal Minds doesn't because its audience is mostly older folks. It was far from boring. Robert claims Lost is losing all these viewers but in reality, the fans are simply watching on DVRs and online because they're more sophisticated than the average person watching CBS's crime dramas, many of which, are boring. The numbers may slip up a bit next year but it all depends on the timeslot. Lost was the number one 10pm show this year in the demo. Should it air in that hour again next year, I expect that to happen again.
On the subject of Lost's viewership next year, I don't think it will drop much next year. Although people have stopped watching each year, I would think people who have been with the show this long will stick around for two more years. Also, I assume that what's left is the core audience who will stick with the show no matter what.
We'll you're missing the best show on tv. But that's okay, because I'm enjoying it and I'm looking forward to the final 34 episodes regardless of the ratings.
Heroes got very similar ratings this year (at least in the demo), against much tougher competition.
What tough show did Heroes go against? That show dropped like a rock in it's second season and it's spinoff got cancelled before it got off the ground.

Dancing and 2.5 Men were tough but Fox and Cdub offered virtually no competition. Had Heroes had to face 24, ratings could've really plummeted this year.

Because all those strike-repeats and crappy reality shows were really tough competition for Lost.

Yeah, and BSG has had it so tough against the likes of Men in Trees and Local News. And got a 1.2HH rating week before last, according to the SciFi Channel.

Lost still beats a cable show, amazing.
At least BSG is up year-to-year in the demo, DVR or not. And the story will conclude on the creator's terms.
Perhaps Lost should have crashed and burned faster in the ratings, then it would ended earlier and wouldn't have become so awful in its last seasons compared to the promising pilot.
