Very happy for Patricia Arquette. I doubt very much she will win it, and I'm not even saying she should, but it is some vindication for her show. The series had a terrific season, which was lost in the shuffle of admittedly down ratings and the last minute scheduling and unwarranted talk that the show was washed up.
Marcia Gay Harden had a terrific run on SVU in the guest role.
I am a bit surprised Mariska Hargitay got another nomination.
And even for the shows I don't watch, congrats. What a great day for those named!!

My happiness over "30 Rock's" 10 nominations kind of overshadowed any sense of injustice over snubs/jeers for other shows. It cleaned up in pretty much every category it deserved to, save for supporting actor (Jack McBrayer)/actress (Jane Krakowski).
Nevertheless, "My Name Is Earl" getting shut out of all the major categories (and this is the second year running that both Jason Lee and the series itself were snubbed) is a crime that makes the blue ribbon panel a piece of crap. About the only thing I can be grateful about is that the so-over "Scrubs" and so-annoying Zach Braff weren't the reasons they got snubbed this time.
Michael C. Hall was another blatant snub. Even if he placed sixth, that's still six places lower than he should have.
"Studio 86'd" deserved nothing save for cinematography. Total trainwreck. Thankfully, Aaron Borekin isn't taking up space in the writing category.
Never thought "Friday Night Lights" was a great show, so couldn't care less that it got almost completely snubbed.
Always felt the "Standoff" main title design was worthy of an Emmy nod. Glad to see somebody else agreed with me. The show was a dud in every department but that one -- but it's one of the best intro sequences ever designed for a TV series.
Seven nominees in drama series directing? Must have been some mean tie. This the first time that's happened?
This message has been edited. Last edited by: Riff Rafferty,
I thought the writing nominations were well-chosen--The Sopranos deserved three separate nods, and the other two were for Battlestar Galactica and Lost. Not for nothing, but those would be my picks for the best-written dramas on the air right now. Of course, Lost and BSG can also be pretty badly written at points, but let's try to concentrate on the good stuff.
Studio 60 got five more nominations than it deserved, but please note--none of the big nominations. Not one for writing. Which is to say, not one for Sorkin.
Showtime didn't do well at all. But hey, better than CW--ONE nomination (and not for the CW show I most heartily dissed here, either).
Do you think MyNetwork even bothered to submit anything for consideration?
I forgot to single out "Studio 86'd" casting nomination as the most ridiculous nom of the year. This was one of the WORST-cast shows on all of television. I think everybody on it save for maybe two people were grossly -- nay, make that offensively -- miscast. Just outrageous.
Elizabeth Barnes and Francine Maisler must give seriously good you-know-what, because there's no other sensible explanation for why their wretched, abhorrent work on this show got rewarded.
Missing Nominations for: The Wire, Battlestar Galactica, Deadwood, How I met your Mother, Edward James Olmos (BSG), Lance Reddick & Aidan Gillen (The Wire), John Krasinski (the office), Ethan Surpee (My name is earl), Melanie Lynskey (2.5 Men), Eddie Izzard & Bruce French (The Riches), Becki Newton and Michael Urie (Ugly Betty), and "Let's go to the Mall" (How I met your Mother)
Some of these series DID get Nominations.
Battlestar Galactica * Outstanding Directing For A Drama Series * Outstanding Sound Editing For A Series * Outstanding Special Visual Effects For A Series * Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series
Deadwood * Outstanding Art Direction For A Single-camera Series * Outstanding Cinematography For A Single-camera Series * Outstanding Costumes For A Series * Outstanding Hairstyling For A Series * Outstanding Makeup For A Series (non-prosthetic) * Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Comedy Or Drama Series (one-hour)
How I met your Mother * Outstanding Art Direction For A Multi-camera Series * Outstanding Multi-camera Picture Editing For A Series * Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series (Neil Patrick Harris as Barney Stinson)

But except for NPH (who may not have made it if he wasn't Doogie Howser in a previous show) none of them will be recongnized on-stage on the primetime show, as they are considered "Creative" Categories. These should have been nominated for Outstanding Dramas and Outstanding Comedies. Sorry, in this case Hairstyling and Makeup without an Oustanding Actor/Actress or Comedy/Drama equals a snub.
(no offense given to those Hairstylists and Make-up people who work very hard on it)
And how does Deadwood NOT get a writing Nomination?

They can't be TOO out of touch.
I was terribly upset that there was no nomination in this category for How I Met Your Mother's "Let's Go to the Mall".
I wonder if not having the entire music video in the broadcast hurt "Let's Go to the Mall". They only had snippets, while the entire music video was featured online. Anyone know the specific rules for this category?
Meanwhile, Grey's Anatomy took complaints about the Ferry arc (and everything afterwards) to heart, and their episode submission was the Thanksgiving Day episode, the truly powerful "From a Whisper to a Scream" (which actually included Sandra Oh's voiceovers instead of Ellen Pompeo... a plus!)

And how does Deadwood NOT get a writing Nomination?
True, most are "creative" emmy's, but if they win, I bet their respective networks will be promoting them just as if they were Best Actor Awards.
"How I Met Your Mother, winner of 3 Emmy Awards, including Best Supporting Actor"
Deadwood: I agree, how in the world does this series NOT get an Emmy nod for Writing. The Writing is what makes this series.
