Amazing how I would double those numbers 2 years ago with 15-16 being good and 20+ being a hit.

hard to tell until we see DVR #'s..... I get the feeling like we are making judgments on CD sales... and then saying but we haven't added in any sales from Amazon....

Until the DVR #s come out in four days Smiler it's a crapshoot...

However.... YES.. I do think we are in a world of new levels for shows... 10M for drama and 8M plus for comedy.. to be considered "successful"...

Look at Private Practice.. it's a deemed a hit... I'm sure someone has the spinoff #s for CSi and Law & Order?? I'd guess PP is a bigtime loser compared to those shows initial spinoff numbers. PP is a spinoff of the second or first biggest scripted show depending on the week and is hovering around 7-9M less than the mothership...

You care about the characters and what goes on in their lives. And it isn't a bunch of bs stories about rich teenage kids with attitudes. OTH is better than this show in every aspect.

OTH's writing is awful and character development is about as deep as a puddle. It's escapist teen fantasy at best. The story moves? They were in two years of high school for four seasons! Way to make the mid-twenties actors look even older than the characters they play...

Couldn't agree more. RIP Everwood Big Grin.

What saves Dirty Sexy Money from being a loser is better retention. Big Shots is doing only slightly better, but with a much stronger lead-in series. People just forget to turn off the TV after Grey's, with DSM more people are apparently choosing to watch it.

I feel safe in predicting that by the end of the season (adding in DVR numbers and everything), Gossip Girl will hit close to 4 million, and I bet CW renews it for a second season. Call me crazy or stupid, but I just have a feeling.

true; look at 'TD. Fox cannot be happy with these 2.

I actaully wonder if CW switch there time slots cause it seem that the reality program get higher ratings then Reaper and GG...Could be an improvement if they switch time.

And if you seen the behavor of the yeallow team on KN...then you would know why they went with the books.

The same applies for CSI: Miami and CSI: NY...

I love Pushing Daisies... it is quirky and reminds me of picket fences, northern exposure, and ugly betty all rolled into one. What fun. I hope people give it a chance... I am so tired of the csi / law and order crap. At least the dead bodies on this show get to say something...

Yeah, like "I want a better agent!"

Even more amazing when you realize that shows used to get canceled for not doing 30+ million... (pre-80's of course), or when you factor in the mid-nineties when the networks all seemed to have at least a few series averaging over 25 million on a regular basis...

I found an old Entertainment Weekly in my garage a few weeks ago and a rerun of FRIENDS on NBC got 17+ million, with a rerun of SCRUBS at 13+million. Puts things in perspective when Scrubs can't even really crack 7 million now with original episodes...

If Unhitched and the Jesebel James show hits, expect a cancellation for both B2Y and TD. FOX will just create some more comedy programming next season.

My take on the Wednesday shows:

ABC:
Pushing Daisies took a drop about the size expected. I expect another drop next week on about 1million viewers. On the plus side, this show will probably look better when DVR numbers come out for this week because the 'buzz' caused nearly everyone to jump on the first week 'live'. Travis commented on cost. I'm thinking that costs will go down in subsequent episodes as they begin reusing the same brightly colored walls on future 'locations'.
Prospects for Pushing Daisies: niche show will have a loyal following once it levels off in th eratings. Might be something that could make the move to Friday without losing viewers and fit in where lower ratings are expected.

Private Practice: looks like it will be around for awhile. Expect back 9 pickup soon and for the show to see a second season.

Dirty Sexy Money won't last a season.

NBC:
Deal or No Deal is finally finding strength somewhere other than Monday. With a syndicated version coming and the suitcase holders branching out to bimbo status on other shows, DoND's days are numbered. Still, it should win this timeslot all season.

Bionic Woman: will probably finish out the season, but won't make season two.

Life: Won't make it through the season.

CBS:
Kid Nation has no reason beyond fear of writer's strike to still be on the air. This should have been a summer show.

Criminal Minds: Will get renewed for another season.

CSI:NY will get renewed for another season as well.

CBS shows may be old, but they are resilient.

FOX:
Back to You and 'Til Death will finish the year, but will not be renewed.

Kitchen Nightmares has nothing going for it except maybe that it is cheap.

CW:
America's Next Top Model bounced back nicely after viewers sampled Pushing Daisies. This show has already been renewed for next cycle so there isn't anything to predict beyond the fact that it will be airing for 2 more cycles next year as well. This show just might outlive a second network.

Gossip Girl is a waste of effort. The show needs something to cast a bigger net over the 'key viewers' that would be attracted to a teen soap. This show needs to add a 'buzz' castmember such as one of the stars of Highschool Musical or even an internet entity like Lonelygirl15. As it stands, this show is just another teen soap, ala One Tree Hill. Note for One Tree Hill: you better come back more mature that this if you want to survive.

Btw, there is no such person as 'Dawn Osteroff'. If we're going to slam her for her idiotic decisions, at the very least we owe her the courtesy of spelling her name correctly.

And boy, are we going to slam Dawn Ostroff for her idiotic decisions.

And when she gets fired, she'll have enough money to retire to a luxurious villa in the Tuscan countryside, so let it be said--not an idiot about everything. Just programming.
