Seldom watch CM, but I wouldn't
be surprised if it held up. I thought
if any of the CBS crime shows could
survive the loss of # 1, this was it.
The entertainment value of this show
appears to be wrapped up in the type
of crimes, the dark and intense tone,
and this inside baseball profiler
approach the show has. In a few
year 2 eps I watched, I did not feel
MP was dominant.

CSI also wouldn't be in huge trouble if Petersen would leave. Not the same goes for CSI Miami, CSI NY or Shark

I dont think CSI would be the #1 show in WP left... no chance.... Shark and CSI Miami could not lose the leads either.... CSI NY though... it would probably benefit from a big cast move...

CSI won't have any trouble beacause Petersen in my opinion has not created a big character like Woods and Caruso did. If Petersen leaves and a great actor comes in place CSI might actually go up

I don't. PP is dominating in it's timeslot. It might reach the lower 3 mil if they have some cliffhanger storyline that draws people in or maybe the show after the season finale of ANTM. But other than that, it's pretty much stabilizing.

As for the DVR's, every show is going to increase it's ratings. I could use the Monday at 9 PM heavy competition as a reason for K-Ville's numbers to increase (which it probably will based on reports of DVRing on different boards). There's only so far DVR's can make up for live viewership numbers.

There's been reports that Monday at 9, Thursday at 9 and Sunday at 9 are the most DVRed timeslot. So if anything, shows in those slots would have the greatest potential for DVR increase.

Still dont think the premiere #s are great but still think with DVR #s and people losing interest in BW and PP GG will get back to those premiere #s....

3 2.75 1.2/3
4 2.87 1.3/3

But still three consecutive weeks of growth in total viewers and among adults 18-49...better than nothing.

I watched all the wednesday shows on abc, and here is my review:

1.Pushing Daisies: Amazing episode last night, gave me much more insight to ned's past, and I was really worried that they wouldnt know what to do with the show after the pilot, but all my questions were answered in the 2nd episode about the show's format, I dont know know whats wrong with people on this board, they beg for something different, but when they finally get it, its suddenly too different, anyways love the show, its fantastic.

2.Private practice: I like this week's episode, this is the only episode so far that I can say is good, I really hope it continues to do better considering the huge support it has, and I really hope addison goes back to being the strong person she was.

3.Dirty Sexy Money: Another show that is different that people seem not to like, it also a very good show with excellent actors, last nights episode was very good, hope the ratings pick up

Best show last night was:

Pushing Daisies: It was an excellent episode, even better than the pilot, it was well written, well acted, well directed episode, the whole time it felt like I was watching a fantastic Indie movie, cant wait for next week.

You do know that the last set of DVR numbers that came out had Survivor at #1, right?

I think that was for the week prior to the beginning of the new season.
Right... That was the LAST set of DVR numbers.

I wish they had not killed off that chachter that replaced him last winter. That would have been a nice addtion to the show.

Pushing Daisies didn't drop much more then any series. And despite how it may appear, PD fans actually enjoy PD. The ratings drop wasn't that sharp. All shows this year dropped and considering that so many people gave it a second chance, I'd say it could've been worse.

Lost and Pushing Daisies are awesome!

Agreed..Liev Schriber was great.

At the very least... if it aint broke..... CSI Chicago with Liev would do a lot better then anything else they have on that's new...

I still think DSM's numbers are disappointing given the promotional campaign it received (its numbers will decrease this week in finals, Private Practice ran 2 minutes long).

And it baffles the mind as to why you schedule a show in prime real estate like Big Shots out of Grey's Anatomy and don't push it in a big way to make people aware of it. They did the same thing with Six Degrees last year. It makes no sense! Especially in a DVR world where you can by and large avoid on-air promos and have to actively choose to record something.

I've seen on-air promotions for Big Shots all week either by itself or as part Thursday night promo for all three shows.

See above, re: "you can by and large avoid on-air promos". I'm not talking about there being on-air promos for BS. I'm talking about the marketing mix, in general.

It doesn't match up for ABC to give the show its best timeslot without the plethora of off-air promotion (that DSM received). If you're going to launch at all, you need to launch hard or launch so quietly and with such low sunk marketing costs (and I would consider, since placement is part of the marketing equation and there is a severe opportunity cost in not launching something successfully out of your biggest lead-in, the choice of where to put something on the schedule a cost) that it doesn't matter. Anything in between is just a waste of your time.

I always thought that a CSI: London or CSI: Melbourne would be great. They should have used a foreign location when they launched the 3rd series.

You do realize some shows actually go UP after they premiere, right? And PD didn't start as high in the ratings as some other shows, either.

quote:
And despite how it may appear, PD fans actually enjoy PD.

So what you're saying is that people who consider themselves fans of a TV show actually have a positive opinion of it?

Hmmm.

You may have a point there. Roll Eyes

Dude. Three million viewers in one week with the network pouring on the promotion, and the competition not exactly overwhelming is pretty damn sharp.

All shows this year dropped

Yes, and that's because they're BAD SHOWS.

quote:
and considering that so many people gave it a second chance, I'd say it could've been worse.

You mean in the sense that it could have gotten a 0.0 HH rating on one of the Big Three Networks? Again, good point.

Released by ABC

Quick Take for Wednesday, October 10, 2007 (Fast Affiliate Live + Same Day Ratings)

ABC Wins its 3rd Straight Wednesday in the Adult Demos, with its Top Adult 18-34 Number on the Night Since May '07 and its Best with Women 18-34 Since May 06

ABC's "Pushing Daisies" Wins its Second Straight Week in Key Adults, Retaining 94% Of its Series Debut in Adults 18-34 and Building on its Premiere with Women 18-34

Wednesday's No. 1 TV Show in Adults 18-49, ABC "Private Practice" Grows Week to Week, Hitting Series Highs in Adults 18-34, Young Men and Teens 12-17

In Viewers and Young Adults, ABC's "Dirty Sexy Money" Defeats NBC's Competing Freshman "Life" in the 10pm Hour, Winning its Slot with a Series-Best in Adults 18-34

Wednesday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)

ABC led its third straight Wednesday night across each of the key adult demographics: Adults 18-34 (3.8/11), Adults 18-49 (3.9/11) and Adults 25-54 (4.3/11). In the Adult 18-49 sales demo, ABC outpaced second-place CBS by a strong 18% (3.3/9).

ABC posted its top Adult 18-34 rating (3.8/11) on Wednesday night since the night of the "Lost" season finale last May, while delivering its top Women 18-34 number (5.5/15) on the evening in close to 1-1/2 years since 5/23/07 and 5/24/06, respectively.

"Pushing Daisies" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)

For the second week in a row, ABC's "Pushing Daisies" won its 8 o'clock time period in each of the adult demographics: Adults 18-34 (3.1/10), Adults 18-49 (3.6/11) and Adults 25-54 (4.1/11). In the key Adult 18-49 sales demo, "Daisies" beat out its nearest competition in the hour by a decisive 16% (NBC = 3.1/9).

"Pushing Daisies" retained an impressive 94% of its series debut audience among Adults 18-34 (3.1/10 vs. 3.3/10) and grew +5% from its debut telecast with Women 18-34 (4.4/13 vs. 4.2/12).

"Private Practice" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

Wednesday's No. 1 TV program, ABC's "Private Practice" grew week to week, increasing its winning advantage in the time period to 26% over its nearest competition (4.8/12 vs. 3.8/10 NBC and CBS dramas tied). In addition to standing as the top-rated show of the night in Adults 18-49, "Private Practice" was also Wednesday's No. 1 TV program with Adults 18-34 (5.0/14) and Adults 25-54 (5.1/12-tie).

On its third telecast, "Private Practice" hit series-highs in Adults 18-34 (5.0/14), Men 18-49 (2.7/8), Men 18-34 (2.6/8) and Teens 12-17 (2.0/7).

"Dirty Sexy Money" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

ABC's "Dirty Sexy Money" defeated its freshman drama competition during the 10 o'clock hour, besting NBC's "Life" by 10% in Total Viewers (8.9 million vs. 8.1 million) and by 21% in Adults 18-49 (3.4/9 vs. 2.8/8). The new ABC series won its hour among Adults 18-34 (3.4/10), beating both CBS' "CSI: NY" (3.0/9) and NBC's "Life" (2.2/7).

"Dirty Sexy Money" posted a series-best among Adults 18-34 (3.4/10).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year to year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has more than doubled from 9% at this time last year up to 20% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. Therefore, the only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.

pisher,

What do you like on TV? It seems like you don't like enough shows to make a top 10 list!
