Now come on, Legend of the seeker is cheesy fun, the lead actress is hot and good, there's a good sword fight scene every week and there is usually an over the top cheesy rousing speech every week. As long as there is plenty of screentime for the actress, a good slow-motion fight scene and an over the top speech every week I'm satisfied by Legend of the seeker. That is all I expect from that show. Expectations are higher for Dollhouse, therefore more disappointment.

But Dollhouse haven't even been given a chance by FOX they just dumped it after a show that is on the brink of cancelation on fridays how in the hell can they expect good numbers by these conditions
FOX should definetely try Dollhouse on a normal week day after Idol or Fringe. They should at least give it a freakin chance to develope.

And Legend of the Seeker is a completely different animal. It's a syndicated show, made in New Zealand (for cheap), with a bunch of local and/or unknown actors. As long as enough stations buy it, it will continue to be profitable for Disney. Dollhouse, OTH, has to be pretty expensive to make, and is (unfortunately) giving FOX very little in return.

If i were Josh Whedon i would tell them that.
It was put on Fridays because FOX didn't like what they saw. Despite being a fan of Joss Whedon's other work, I can't say I blame them at this point. If the show were on any other night it would probably be yanked on Monday. At least this way, the whole 13 episode order will probably be shown. Same for T:SCC.

I really hope TGIF comes back in the future b/c it shouldn't had came back in 2003 and waited. With Disney Channels numbers I would like to see Disney program this night. Please don't make excuses for Wife Swap and Supernanny b/c I don't want to hear it anymore.
And please stop arguing for Disney because those shows wouldn't pull half their audience on a Friday on ABC. It's been proven in the past that Disney viewers don't watch ABC. They watch some ABC Family but not ABC.

How can they make that judgement. Just beause some idiots at FOX don't like it they still should give it a freakin chance.
What if it actually could succeed on such a night. Lie to Me has had its chance to grow now and it is not doing good. Dollhouse never had that chance these 2 shows should switch night to see if Dollhouse can build an audience. Just look how much demo numbers it gets from 4 million viewers on a friday night that is good. Just think about how good it could do on a normal day after Fringe, Bones or Idol. It is their duty to at least give it a shot.

It's Fox's network. They're in the business to make money and they'll make more money airing the likes of House on Mondays than they would've Dollhouse. Fox simply didn't have a time period for it. I guess it could air after Bones and they could've held Hell's Kitchen but I guarantee you it doesn't fit that audience, the dip from the lead in would be huge and it would still get canceled. Fox saw more potential in Lie to Me. It's their job to place shows they have more faith in on better nights. I have yet to read anything positive of Dollhouse. From the sound of things, it's lucky it ever saw the light of day. Fox has a history of never even debuting some of the crap they give the green light too. Granted, Terminator wasn't what I'd call a healthy lead in but it's not like it faces anything of real substance on Fridays. Put up or shut up situation and right now Fringe is in definite shut up mode.

Not really, Dollhouse has aired 2 episodes and we are hoping it will pick up steam, Moonlight has been dead for a year and fans are hoping CBS Execs will wake up 1 morning and suddenly miss it. At this point in time there's a chance Dollhouse can make it, and I believe that it will.
Lisen,
I like Dollhouse to but there is no way that it will pick up steam unless it moves somewhere else.
I think a factor would be what happens to the audience when Prison Break takes over for Sarah Connor. Under the assumption that Prison Break gives a better lead-in and more people tune into Dollhouse, then maybe FOX will consider more.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer wasn't a hit in its first season, but it grew to be one. I don't think the X-Files was either. The problem is with American Idol (25 million & a 9.3 in the demo), the rest of the shows on FOX have received a ratings boost, so

Averages ---------------------------- 10.04 Million Viewers 3.9/10 Demo Rating/Share ----------------------------
I think that a sci-if Tuesday in the fall with Dollhouse & Fringe would be great for FOX. Dollhouse could be a place holder for American Idol and they'd only have to order half a season 9 or 13 episodes. If if takes off in the new time period, they can buy the other half and air it in the summer.

Lucy Hale is my favourite actress this season.
I agree metal, in the few times that I've seen Privilege so far, she stands out for me. I'm glad she found something after Bionic Woman. The only thing about her is she's on a horrible network and she might be looking for other work after this year.

Both are well below the point of no return, so the only real question is whether FOX keeps them on for the full remaining run.
But they still cvould try Dollhouse on a normal weekday to see how it turns out. SCC has had its fai chance on success they even tried it after idol and House i think. Dollhouse has not had that chance yet. FOX should also give Doolhouse this chance to succeed. Who knows it might well succeed
If it's doing this badly on Friday, it wouldn't do well enough anywhere else.
And they know it. That's WHY it's on Friday.
Even a lot of the critics who have most fanatically supported him in the past are turning their thumbs down for Dollhouse. Even a lot of his diehard online fans are saying this show isn't working for them.
I mean, seriously--they gave him tens of millions of dollars, and plenty of time to develop an idea that quite honestly was probably never going to be viable. Not done this way, anyhow. He GOT his chance--more than most people in his business ever get. Buffy was a long time ago. He didn't do that by himself. He's not a freakin' genius--just a reasonably clever writer/producer who has clearly run out of inspiration, and has badly misunderstood his own talent.
It's a dead show walking, and if they stuck it in a stronger timeslot, it would only speed up the final spasms.
No. Whedon had a brief period of real genius. He also had a long, long period of self destruction. Anyone with the training or experience of similar people can see just what his problem is from photos of him, let alone the situations in which interviewers find him. He threw away his creativity long ago, poor sod.
Much of Angel disappointed. Firefly was unutterable, ridiculous, the end of Whedon. But at least we had those tingling, glowing moments of the best Buffy episodes.
And yes, they were all his own work. Other writers only pretended to deserve their name in the credits as Whedon rewrote so much of their drafts. He also directed beautifully, picking it up effortlessly with little training as far as I know and was heavily involved in post production.
Shee, this sounds like an obituary.

Real geniuses have more than just brief periods--anybody can become inspired, under the right circumstances. But it's important to remember how collaborative a medium TV is.

Or he found himself desperately trying to replicate a once-in-a-lifetime burst of creativity--and worst of all, listening to his flatterers.

And much was good, but Whedon's involvement with that show was sporadic at best. I felt it was often best when he was least involved, though he did contribute some extremely fine scripts.

Yeah, but we also have the two seasons on UPN, which ruined the show for me.

And yes, they were all his own work.
In TV, nothing is ever one person's work. Rod Serling, when presented with an Emmy for The Twilight Zone, told Richard Matheson and Charles Beaumont he'd hack off a piece for each of them. I'm not saying Whedon doesn't praise his collaborators, but there's been this unrealistic fixation on him in the press, and in online fan circles. People channelling their own frustrated creative impulses into a hero figure.

That is pure b.s. David Fury is at least as good a writer as Whedon. Probably better. But he lacks the showrunner gene. Whedon seems to have lost it, though.
You always hear about how this or that showrunner rewrites all the scripts, but always take it with a ton of salt. He may be improving their scripts, but in the back and forth atmosphere of a TV writer's room, you can be sure his scripts are frequently supplemented with the ideas of his underlings.
And of course the guy never had an original idea in his life--his talent was to creatively rework existing ideas--sometimes without crediting the people he got them from, I fear.
quote:
He also directed beautifully,
His fixation on directing ruined him as a writer more than anything else--and he was no better than any number of professional TV directors. One of the reasons Dollhouse is disappointing is that Whedon insisted on directing several of the early eps, which took his attention off the scripting process. There are only so many minutes in the day, and he's NOT A FREAKIN' GENIUS. And even the Hitchcocks know not to spread themselves too thin.
quote:
Shee, this sounds like an obituary.
Eulogy--and he's not dead. He'll continue to write, one way or the other. But eulogies are rarely realistic.
Oh, and we seem to be forgetting that the guy is RICH, and never has to work another day of his life. Oh yeah, poor Joss. Sucks to be him.

I know. She's so cute and quirky and funny! The things she does with her facial expressions are awesome! And to boot, she totally reminds me of Audrey Hepburn. I'll miss Privileged. I think it's by far the best CW creation. It has much more heart than GG or 90210. Though, I don't think last night's season finale ending with "To be continued" will help their changes of renewal. But this girl was great to watch!
