Great move on ABC's part -- this could very well be the decisive primary, so I bet this debate will be heavily watched. Do you know what night it is scheduled for?

I should probably just ignore it, but I wish I could understand what a makes a "winner", and what makes a "loser". Not to mention "Honorable Mention". 5th Grader and Lyrics consistently get rated as "winners", with the reason given that they perform at levels much much higher than FOX had last year in the same time period. But for some reason those are the only 2 shows on TV that get listed as winners based on ratings compared to last year in the same time period. For example, Medium on Monday night at 10 this past week had 9.22 million viewers and 2.9 in 18-49. Last year in the comparable time period, Black Donnellys had 5.42 million viewers and a 2.0 among adults 18-49. This rise is similar to the FOX shows on Thursdays this season compared to last season, yet Marc whines in his column weekly how Medium should be doing better.
It would just be nice if shows were judged comparing apples to apples, and using the same barometer. But as I have said before, Marc's rules are as follows:
FOX: for some reason he still judges FOX like they are a "4th network", even though FOX is obviously now part of the Big 4. A show on FOX that gets 7-8 million viewers is doing very well according to Marc, while a show on ABC, CBS, or NBC that gets 9 million viewers is not doing well.
ABC: If the show is one of his favorites, the ratings don't matter. It is a winner. Brothers and Sisters gets weak ratings, when judged by it lead in, yet it is always a winner. I have a feeling ABC might move this show in the fall, and then it will die. Because it is a ratings dud.
CBS: If its on CBS, its a winner. The 18-49 ratings don't matter. The drops from previous seasons don't matter. For example, this week CSI is a winner, even though it finished in 4th place in the demo. It had 11.45 million viewers and a 2.9 from rating. Last year in the comparable week (and also a repeat), CSI did 15.77 million viewers and a 4.3 demo rating. A significant drop. But this does not matter. It is a winner. After all, it is on CBS.
NBC: Even though NBC is in 2nd place this season in the demo ratings, based on Marc's analysis, you would think they were buried deep in last. For example, week after week Biggest Loser performs solidly in the demo considering they are up against AI, yet never a kudos.
okay, can we say crybaby...
first off, if you don't agree with Marc's picks for winner/loser/honorable mention then ignore them...or make your own...I agree and disagree with him from time to time but im not going to rant about it...
Fox is the #4 net...why? b/c it only has 15 hours of tv programming vs "the big 3" who have 22 hours
ABC does have winners and losers and I hate B&S, but it is the number 1 demo show at 10pm on any night.
NBC would be in the basement if not for the strike...do you really think american gladiators and the rest of their "reality shows" would have been as big as they are facing the other nets regular schedules? even their scripted shows would have been down at least 20%...
CBS is not always the winner, look at big brother its a loser 3 times a week...jericho, the captain, cane, shark...its also hard to label a show (that has the biggest audience) a loser...as for CSI's repeat ratings drop...how many shows do you know that are in their 7th season that still repeat this well?

Unless it is revealed in the next month that Obama is client 8, the primary has pretty much been decided already. Obama will win it, then lose to McCain.

There's no way Obama or Clinton will lose to the crypt keeper. We are in a Jimmy Carter situation folks. The Democrats will win in November. You read it here first.

What does that have to do with anything when comparing primetime ratings? The only consequence of their smaller programming is making it easier for FOX to dominate rankings.
By the same logic, any show under 3.0 demo on the "#1 network" should be a loser.

I've been reading that, and even saying it for more than a month. I will just add: this is a great move for ABC, ratingswise. they will win the timeslot (viewers and demo) wherever they put it. However, the PA primary won't decide anything. This race looks to be going to the convention before and decision is made. By then, all the networks will be churning their news divisions into overtime so they can capture as much of the ratings benefit as possible.
Do they rotate the debates? How do they determine who gets to air each one?
