Travis: If it was about the subtitles, I think the ratings would have shown a half hour decline for Lost. I think the NCAA games and just a general lack of interest in Lost are the answers.

TV-aholic Still wondering why you posted as 'Mork' earlier today.

You don't? I know there aren't a ton of casual Lost viewers, but if you were flipping channels and landed on something in Korean with subtitles, would you stick around? Compared with landing on something in English with no subtitles? There's a reason foreign films don't do well at the box office in America.

I agree! Big Grin

Can someone explain what, if any, factor daylight saving time plays in the viewing habits of the average tv watcher?

Almost every time a show's ratings are discussed [in regards to the a decline], DST is mentioned as a possible factor. Just because it's lighter out longer doesn't mean people stop watching what they normally watch on whatever day/time does it? Even if they did from time to time, they could just record it [which could be factored in later to get a better rating snapshot]. It seems like a weird thing to mention [DST that it].

The idea is that more people are doing daily activities in the evening because it is daylight later in the day, and that (especially for 8 pm shows) viewers will watch shows later or possibly not at all. Thus DST would effect the viewer numbers reported here, although the actual number of people who watch a particular show might not change substantially.

Also CHET is officially the most worthless SURVIVOR ever and that includes Osten. What a useless sack of s@#t and then using his parting words to say Tracy and Eric can "take care" of Ozzy...how are they suppose to do that without your vote d#@*he? Some friend he turned out to be to Tracy after she recued him muliple times.

I'm sure the AI producers are scrambling to find a way to get their show away from this debate before they are crushed. Eeker Wink
Well, I said that they will win wherever they put it. They aren't going to put in on opposite Idol because neither of the politicians want the next day's press to be making jokes about how Simon gets more votes than they do.

But all the big states and most states are finished, there aren't many people voting right now, and with new shows being on the air, I think it'll pull it low numbers. And it's to early (for me at least) to be wanting to hear about the next President, when I voted for the primary, when we have until November. ABC should do what they did in Ohio, MSNBC has it on cable, but in Ohio my NBC station had the debate on. That way people who need to vote can watch, and people who already voted, can continue to watch great programming on ABC, whatever that is.

Viewing across the country has little to do with whether their state voted already. Sure, people in Pennsylvania will be paying a bit closer attention than the rest, but I'm sure a lot of people want to see these two debate, since they have been so close this entire time, and one of them will be their party nominee for president. As I recall, we all still have a presidential vote in November...

As in my post I did say that there is a election in November. ABC wanted the debate in April, before the primary. Most shows will be back, and most people have already voted. The biggest states in the US, have already voted, so most people wouldn't care who is going to be the Democrated nominee. They just want the to know who is actually running to be the next President. That won't happen until June at least. So the people who already voted will ignore the debate, and watch shows they want to show.

I bet if ABC shows the debate on primetime within the whole country, and not just in the state, it will get low ratings. I'll stand by that, and if by chance ABC actually shows the debate throughout the whole country, it will get about a 6 million viewers, and about a 1.5 in the demo.

I need help, forum members!

What exactly is the list of canceled shows, in chronological order, so far?

If you can, please post your list at the Cancellation Clock Contest thread. Thanks.

but nothing was on last night...and lost went up in viewers at the 1/2...ppl can make excuses for shows (which is kinda weird) but the fact remains that lost has fallen almost weekly in viewers and demos since it debuted this year....and that was in the face of mostly reality or repeats...

lost did not face idol and still fell, survivor had that excuse and it rebounded a bit, but lost fell hard....it nearly lost in viewers to a repeat csi...

To Travis Yanan: I agree that the LIVE+7 numbers would be more useful if they compared to LIVE+SD in addition to LIVE. I sent your comment to Bill who produces the LIVE+7 posts, and if he doesn't start adding in the LIVE+SD to those tables, I'll do it myself :-)
