If you are correct ok, but just the cost of the cast (which I'm sure the Hawaii isn't paying for ) would seem to eat up a sizable portion of that. Also, i can't imagine the insurancw costs on a show like Lost.
Anyways, whatever, the show will be on unti its conclusion regardless.
Hawk-Eye, I'm just repeating what I've read. A guy by the name of Gregg Nations who is a writer on Lost said that, he said that the cost of every episode varies depending upon what they need and it also changes with the ratings however the average is around 2.5m. If you do a search you can probably find the quote yourself. While the cast size is huge the actors are not paid a really high salary. I think it is 69k/episode for each member unlike the Desperate housewives who apparently get paid 250k each/ episode. So I think that helps with the costs.

So? Godd for CBS that they can produce 3 similar shows and still get great numbers. Poor Lost is dong so-so now, think how "weel" a Lost spin-off would do
What? I agree Lost's numbers are down but the show continues to do well week after week. Give it up already would ya? It grows out of its lead in by 7 million every week. Just because Lost hasn't sprung off 2 copycat nearly identical spinoffs doesn't make it a loser. I think spinning of the CSIs was a major waste of resources and just increased the amount of procedurals for CBS. Sure they pull pretty good numbers, but there's no originality there. Same with the Private Practice spinoff, which as much as I've enjoyed, its really just a knock off too. Lost is one of the most mind-boggling shows on all of network TV. Great suspense to it. If you don't like it, that's fine. Don't watch it, but don't say because a show hasn't had a spinoff that it isn't doing well.

The "most official" figure i've heard so far is "several million dollars for episode". Of course that could mean 2 million or 5 million. Hard to tell

I did forget to mention Survivor before hand. By this time next year though, Survivor will probably be struggling for 12 million a week. That show has been on a downhill slide for the past 5 years or so. quote: Originally posted by TV-aholic: - CSI - CSI: Miami - Survivor - NCIS - Criminal Minds - CSI: NY - WAT - 2.5 Men (may be about even) quote: Originally posted by vlis: name that tune quote: Originally posted by robert: There are 7-8 shows on CBS that do better (in viewers) than Lost

Firstly i think CSIM is actually more original than Lost which was a Survivor rip-off in the begining. Secondly 12-13 million is , no matter how you try to spin it, far from great for one of the most hyped shows i can remember

It will be interesting to see if there is any Stike effect on Survivor once new episodes of CSI return on April 3rd. If Survivor all of a sudden is back to 14-14.5 million, we'll know. If it stays in the 13 million range, it just slowly sliding down. To bad though, this season has been pretty good to watch. very Enjoyable.

Getting back on the air quick will help the CBS shows but I think damage has been done during this strike to them and TV in general. I'm expecting drops. Hope not, even for those shows I don't care about (basically the shows we're talking about, but am not being overly optimistic.
I think what will hurt from the strike most will be the smaller Demo numbers for all nets. The 18-30, no children, crowd, will have left Network TV (except for FOX) and found other shows on CABLE. Those viewers may be the ones lost for a while, if not forever.
Yes I agree but then at the same time, I don't think they necessarily went to cable. I think things like cable news have benefited from the strike. Sure some people probably went to cable, but I think a lot of them just weren't watching in general.

Just like CSI was averaging 26 millions three seasons ago

You mean Genuine Original CSI, right? I can certainly see that argument for that show vs. "Lost," but not for "CSI Miami."

Um last I checked, Survivor didn't have flash backs, flash forwards, etc and so I don't think its a Survivor ripoff. I'm not sure you've seen the show. And what again is so original about CSI:Miami? Oh ya... . Last I checked TVLand, Fonzie was wearing those on Happy Days. I think the fact that there's so much to Lost is what makes it original, even if you don't like the show.

With many episodes pulling in around 30 million viewers. TV in general has fallen.

I don't see it ever bumping back to 15 million. It may reach 14 million here or there, but 13 million to me sounds most realistic.

Then why is everyone insisting that Lost is more succesfull than a show that is watched by more viewers. That's what bother me and i'll never agree with that. We can also talk about demos, i don't have something against that, but i'm tired of everyone justifing Lost's numbers by the fact that it has good demos. OK so it brings more money to ABC. Why do you care about that? Do you recieve part of that money?
When you are making claims like 'ABC is not happy with the show' people will make counter arguments highlighting its financial power a large section of which stems from its performance among the 18-49s. If you don't want to talk about then you should not be making that argument in the first place. Lost is clearly a more successful show because Lost probably generates more money then CM through DVD and merchandise sales and licensing alone without even counting the ad $ (in which case lost also outperforms CM by more then 2to1)

I agree. ABC is very happy with Lost. It is just two shows that have kept them ticking this strike season.
