And I think that's the image of each network.

I've have always seen ABC (in the last 25 years or so) as a Network that has Hot shows that burn out Quickly. CBS may not have the "Hot Shows", but has been more stable and consistant with its programming.

Ya CBS has always had a lot of steady performers that do mediocre or poorly in the demos but has a pretty long shelf life. ABC still has quite a few successful sitcoms in syndication from the 90s. They really don't have much however, in terms of dramas out there. This even backs up into the 80s. Nevertheless, both networks have been successful and one could say the biggest ABC show of the past 20 years has been Millionaire, which is in syndication still kicking strong. NBC has actually had the best balance of the two. Fox has been more worried about making sure they're the net parents want to keep their kids away from. Wink

What are the ad rates for a repeat Episode of CSI and Grey's?

I'm not a media buyer, but I believe most advertisers buy schedules, not just episodes. In those schedules are a mix of shows, both originals and repeats. So, those figures are all factored into the cost of the buy -- but if you insist on having "Grey's Anatomy" in there, the price of the buy will go up. I know there's a lot of wheeling and dealing about certain shows.

To make a long story short, I think those ad rates would be for somebody walking in off the street who said "I want to buy one spot in 'Grey's'/'CSI'," but advertisers with multiple shows on their schedules don't actually pay that exact rate.

Therefore, in answer to your question: I believe there is no set ad rate for repeats (because nobody is going to walk in off the street and want to buy just one repeat)

Any media buyers on this forum who can confirm/deny my second-hand knowledge of their business? Smiler

Cold Case will have a hard time topping 12 million with Big Brother as a lead in. Criminal Minds going head to head against Idol will also likely lose viewers.

1) CSI-NY will do well and will do about 13.4 - 14 million viewers when the new epsidoes returns.

2)Criminal Minds was drawing about 14 million last year vs. AI and will do about the same this spring.

3) We may see a spike for Cold Case since it will have some new episodes with NO DH epsidoes against it. Once DH returns with fresh wpisodes, it will settle back in the 12 million range (as long as Golf runovers don't kill it).

4) WAT will have about 3-4 weeks of nothing against it while it has fresh episodes, so it should do just fine. Will settle into its 14-15 million range after LOST returns.

You could be right but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Getting back on the air quick will help the CBS shows but I think damage has been done during this strike to them and TV in general. I'm expecting drops. Hope not, even for those shows I don't care about (basically the shows we're talking about, but am not being overly optimistic.

I don't think so, first of all to the best of my knowledge there are only two shows on CBS that consistently break 15million viewers (CSI and NCIS) and NCIS's demo numbers are embarrassingly low. Given a choice, CBS would gladly lose 5 million NCIS viewers to gain 1 point in the demo.

Edit: While we are at it; how many shows on CBS break a 5 in the demo? Wink Only CSI does that consistently (and CSI has that great survivor leadin) and 2.5 men did that a couple of times this season. This alone makes Lost more successful a show then most shows on CBS.

I have 7 that do as well if not better: 2.5 Men, the three CSIs, WAT, CM, NCIS.

Actually the costs of the show are relatively low. They have been getting tax breaks and other incentives from the Hawaii government since they threated to move the show out of Hawaii towards the end of Season 1. In season 3 the average cost of episodes was around $2.5 million whereas cost of an average episode of Pushing Daisies is $2.61million and ABC is content with pushing Daisies' 2.5-3demo that they gave it another season, they are positively ecstatic with Lost's 5+ demo and lower costs. Cost-wise it is at par perhaps even slightly cheaper then similar shows like Heroes.

I'd be stunned if Lost could do an episode for 2.5 million. If you are correct ok, but just the cost of the cast (which I'm sure the Hawaii isn't paying for ) would seem to eat up a sizable portion of that. Also, I can't imagine the insurance costs on a show like Lost.

Anyways, whatever, the show will be on unti its conclusion regardless.

I would say Roseanne was pretty big for a few years at ABC. Shelf life of Off-Network didn't last long after it was off ABC though. Beyond that, its better KNOWN stuf was the old TGIF kid sitcoms.

NBC in the 90's was nothing But GOLD, no matter how hard they tried to destroy it and make it into what it is today. Wink

So? Godd for CBS that they can produce 3 similar shows and still get great numbers. Poor Lost is dong so-so now, think how "weel" a Lost spin-off would do

Survivor could still end up ahead now that AI is moving away from Thursdays. Also, I would think 60 Minutes would have a higher average.

I think what will hurt from the strike most will be the smaller Demo numbers for all nets. The 18-30, no children, crowd, will have left Network TV (except for FOX) and found other shows on CABLE. Those viewers may be the ones lost for a while, if not forever.

OK-good point and I do love Dexter. I guess it's more along the lines of shows where the name has a double meaning. I think it's when 'Crossing Jordan' came out that I finally decided I had an assfull of it.
